NORDIC AMBASSADORS The Department of Political Science & International Relations at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) organised “The Nordic Cooperation” conference on the 13th of March, 2013.
Anu Saarela, the Ambassador of Finland to Cyprus, Kirsten Rosenvold Geelan, the Ambassador of Denmark to Cyprus and Klas Gierow, the Ambassador of Sweden to Cyprus all attended. The audience were the students and the instructors of the Departments of Political Science and International Relations as well as students from other departments.

Anu Saarela focused on the institutional structure of the Nordic Cooperation and the basis for the Nordic Cooperation. Kirsten Geelan was the second speaker. She started her speech by emphasizing the key factors of Nordic Cooperation including peace, prosperity and economic growth. The third presenter was Klas Gierow and he introduced the ongoing programs of the Nordic cooperation.
The rector of EMU, Prof. Abdullah Öztoprak, recently honored an invitation from the Ambassador of Libya, H. E. Mr. Abdurrazaq Mukhtar to attend the Libyan National Day celebration held in Ankara. Also in attendance was Mr. Mustafa Abdul Jalil. He is a Libyan politician who
was the Chairman of the National Transitional Council from 5th March 2011 until its dissolution on 8th August 2012. This position meant he was de facto head of state during the transitional period after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s government, until the handover of power to the General National Congress. Before the war, Mr. Jalil served as the Secretary of the General People’s Committee of Justice.
