In this special edition, we are paying tribute to our parents as we all celebrate Mothers Day in May and Fathers Day in June. If your parents are still both alive, make time to celebrate them.

I wouldn't be where I am now if not for the foundation they built for me. #JustLove Heartfelt greetings to all the moms and those who've been like 2nd moms especially to me. Special mention to everyone who contributed and helped put this magazine to life. It's now time to celebrate. Cheers!

Our parents are truly indispensable. I trust you would agree with me on this. My father passed away just after I graduated College and I'm just grateful that he was able to see the fruit of his hard work. Still missing him dearly. My mother's been sickly and as I look after her, being the only child, I try to fulfill whatever her heart desires. May she appreciate even the little ways of love.

Happy Mothers Day by Alessandra Crisha Villalon

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms throughout the world. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. Jarvis would later denounce the holiday’s commercialization and spent the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day traditionally involves presenting moms with flowers, cards and other gifts. A mother’s job isn’t just cooking, cleaning, or taking care of their children. A mother can do any job there is. They can be a housekeeper, a nurse, teacher, journalist, party planner, stylist, driver, photographer, secretary, a chef, you name it, a mother can do it all for her family without even asking for anything in return. Being a mother is a hard full time job. It can be really tiring, emotionally draining, and exhausting. A mother has a lot of responsibilities and sacrifices anyone can imagine. A mother is someone who is willing to sacrifice everything and anything for her family. Whether it be as simple as her clothes, money, her time, or her career, she will choose her family in a heartbeat.

But as we grow older, and get busier with our lives, we tend to forget that they are there. Waiting and cheering for you to achieve your dreams. Which is why this Mother’s Day, let your mom know that she is loved and appreciated. Thank them for everything they’ve done for you! From carrying you for 9 months, for raising you to be the person you are today, for guiding and pushing you to become the best version of yourself, for making sure your stomach is full so you can slay your day, or just for loving you and accepting everything about you. They may not be perfect, they might make mistakes, lose their cool, raise their voice, misunderstand you, make you look for something that’s just in their hands, go a little crazy at times, but one thing’s for sure, they are doing all of this out of pure love. A mother’s love is the greatest love there is. Make sure to call or visit your mothers and dedicate Mother’s Day to spending your time with them because life is short, so let’s spend the rest of it with our loved ones! To my mom, I just wanna let you know that every single thing you do is very much appreciated! I know we have our differences and misunderstandings but if God will give me a chance to pick my mother, I would still pick you in a heartbeat. Thank you for everything! You deserve everything nice life has to offer and I promise to be the one to make it happen. I love you! www.empoweringentrepreneurs.online

JOBS TO DELEGATE TO VIRTUAL ASSISTANTS It's been 12 years and counting since I started my career as a Virtual Assistant. Here are the top 12 jobs delegated to us. by PHOEBE

WEB RESEARCH 1

This has been the entry-level hire for most clients now. Basically going over the world wide web searching for information and competitors analytics that your business requires. Time consuming and at times trying if pulling personal details of private citizens but someone honed for the job will surely find a workaround.

EMAIL MARKETING This task is for creating email campaigns and newsletter from scratch that involves setting up Autoresponders. Popular to our clients are ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, Ontraport and GetResponse. 6

WEBSITE MANAGEMENT 3

Web developers generally start the job and our VAs constantly update your website. This is a VA thing especially if you’re not too technical. 7

4

BLOG ASSISTANCE Posting your content or scheduling for a certain day. Or blog commenting too. If you’re a blogger, you surely need a VA to help you increase the blog reach! 8

5

DATA ENTRY The most popular job for VAs since they only need to key the information in your systems. This may be a very simple task but it requires a keen VA to get the job done over time.

Emp wered By Virtual Assistants

PRESENTATIONS While this may be simple to others, busy entrepreneurs and speakers struggle sitting down and creating the many slides for their presentations. Where as if you just email the content to us even on a rough draft, we’ll return it to you on your branding colors and font, ready for your presentation.

BOOKKEEPING Another tedious job that if you’re not a Bookkeeper or an Accounting person, is not just your thing. For a rising business, the transactions definitely increases thus it needs a Bookkeeper – either daily, weekly, monthly – depends on the volume.

VIDEO/PODCAST EDITING Needs a really skilled VA to work the magic in your videos and podcast.

These 4 are the most delegated jobs to us.

9

Graphic Designs Every business needs images for marketing their products or services. We do have fixed or project based and hourly paid GDs

to suit your needs. While there are now easy to use graphic apps in the internet, that creativity is the reason most clients outsource this job.

10

Social Media Management 12

This tops our list since most of our clients require help in managing their Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIN and You Tube accounts. We help clients setup their accounts from scratch, collate or create content, schedule them and if the client wishes, can also delegate engagement to us.

11

APR-JUN 2022 | ISSUE 02

15

Transcription Oh this is really time consuming and most clients would rather outsource. Who does? Mostly those who ran a podcast and wishes

to convert content to blogs or social media snippets. Repurposing their videos is a hit to our clients.

GENERAL VIRTUAL ASSISTANCE

Again, a Virtual Assistant used to be known as General Virtual Assistant started as doing Administrative work similar to a Personal Assistant, Office Clerk, Secretary or Office Administrator, except that they only do tasks which can be completed ONLINE usually from their home offices. Report and form creation, preparation of training materials, calendar management, organizing communication via emails or phone calls, creating and reviewing customer spreadsheets keeping online records, lead generation, deadline or deliverables tracking are just some of the GVA services.

There are other jobs that have been assigned to Virtual Assistants over the years. Anything that can be delivered online can be passed on to them to help you get more time in your work day. When in doubt if you can delegate something to do, don't hesitate to ask. Or look at the list of services they offer.

Happy Fathers Day by Alessandra Crisha Villalon

The nation's first Father's Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972—58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day official—that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States. On this day children acknowledge and appreciate their fathers and father figures, who play an important role in their lives, be it emotionally, mentally or even financially. On this day children understand the importance of the role of a father in one’s life. You might think that dads don’t really care about you or how your day went, or they don't really pay attention. They may not be the best when it comes to words of affection or appreciation, but it doesn't mean they don’t care. Little did you know that they notice your every little sudden change of expression or moods. They might seem very busy, but they are doing the best they can to make sure to put food on the table, that you have nice clothes to wear, that you get the best quality education there is, and the family’s overall daily necessities. Fathers have sacrificed a lot in their life. Instead of buying great clothes from the money that they earned, they would rather get clothes for their children. Instead of spending money on traveling or buying the things they dreamed to have, they would rather pay their child’s school fees.

To my dad, thank you for raising me to be the person I am today. Please know that all your hardships and sacrifices will all be paid off soon, and I will make sure of that. I may not be the best daughter, but I promise to give you the best life that you deserve. Thank you for everything that you do, I love you!

Our fathers may not be perfect. They may be overprotective at times, or too strict but always remember that they are just doing the best they can to protect you from the cruel world he knew. Fathers will always be the one on the front seat of your show cheering for you whether you did great or bad. They will always be the one to believe in you even though you don’t believe in yourself. They’re your knight in shining armor always and forever. Let us appreciate our dads this coming Father’s Day and let them know that they are appreciated!

Favorite memory with your father: My favorite memory with my father will be those times when every summer he always planned to go to the beach together with our family. Those memories bring joy and every time I remembered those happy summers I always realized how happy my childhood was. Greatest lessons your father taught you: The greatest lesson that my father taught me and always with me even to this day is one, always respect my elders, second is to be generous, and lastly is to always give thanks to our Lord God for all the blessings and live by the words of God because if you're a God-fearing person the goodness in you will come out naturally and will inspire others.

What’s your relationship with your father like? My father and I are like two peas in a pod. Many people believe that we resemble one another not just in appearance but also in behavior and attitude. I looked up to him for a number of reasons. He is both my teacher and my idol. Favorite memory with your father: My favorite moment with my father was when we were at a gathering and we were both telling jokes that made our relatives laugh. And I believe that was the happiest moment when we were all together with our close relatives.

What’s your relationship with your father like? My father and I have a relationship that is a beautiful and blessed one. From my birth, my father plays an essential role in molding my life. TO DADS

"Dad, you are the bravest person I have ever met. You have shown me how to be strong in heart, mind, and soul, and stay true to myself."

TRIBUTE

What’s your relationship with your father like? My relationship with my father is close and very loving. Favorite memory with your father: I made so many memories with my father, but the most remarkable ones are those which gave me the direction in life. Greatest lessons your father taught you: Be content with little. Numerous times were growing up when money was tight. Nevertheless, we were contented with it.

What’s your relationship with your father like? The relationship that I have with my father is irreplaceable. Because of him, i know how i should be treated by a guy, i knew my worth because of how my father loved me. I have never met a man equal or greater than my father when it comes to loving and taking care of me. He’s the only one who believes in me even when I don’t believe in myself. He has sacrificed so much for our family, and I hope to give him the comfortable life that he deserves in the near future.

APR-JUN 2022 | ISSUE 02

19

Favorite memory with your father: My favorite memory with my dad is the day that I got my first salary, and I treated them to dinner in a bit expensive place. He is not a showy person but that day, i saw how happy he was bonding with us which rarely happens these days because all of us are a bit busy with our lives. Greatest lessons your father taught you: The greatest lesson my dad taught me was always look ahead of the situation. Always have a plan and analyze every situation carefully before deciding what move to make. He also taught me to help as much as I can, and always prioritize your family as when hardships occur, your family are the first people to help you get through it. www.empoweringentrepreneurs.online

TO DADS

What’s your relationship with your father like? At an early age, my relationship with my father is a typical father and son relationship, like a father taking care of his child. But, growing up, we became more open to each other. Our relationship became stronger and more like a friendship, but there are still boundaries; we still have respect for each other as father and son. I am happy that I get to have a relationship with my father like this. It is not easy to be open to our family, especially if we don't have the opportunity to build a real connection with our family members. Favorite memory with your father: My favorite moment with my dad was when we bonded. Because unfortunately, we rarely have bonding moments with only the two of us. I was busy going to school and doing some schoolwork right after I went home, and the same for him because he was busy with his work. That is why I took the current situation for granted to have more bonding moments with my dad at home during this pandemic. Greatest lessons your father taught you: My dad taught me two things that became my life principle. First, be independent. He taught me not to depend on anyone, especially when creating my happiness. The second one is to be responsible. Always be responsible for your actions and not make decisions that will eventually lead you to run from your responsibilities.

What’s your relationship with your father like? My father is like my bestfriend to me. Favorite memory with your father: My favorite memory with him is our long walks and our basketball games. Greatest lessons your father taught you: My father taught me to always be kind to people and always be responsible

By: Dr. Kathleen Farah

I am honored to be a guest contributor in our magazine's SPECIAL Edition of Empowered by Virtual Assistants for Mother's Day. Thank you to Phoebe, Client Relations Manager for the request and for all she does for women and for Wiser Medicine. She asked me to do an article on the Challenges of Working Mothers.

APR-JUN 2022 | ISSUE 02

21

When the concept of this article was proposed, my mind flashed immediately back to many years ago, to the challenges of being a single parent of two active boys, who are now adults. I had to immediately add to the title “ … and rewards”, and in addition, did you notice that I added that “ALL Moms are working moms.” I became a lucky step mom as well to 15 year old twins when I married Tom 27 years ago. So my blessings have been as a mom, step mom, and as a grandmother as well. Parenting, from being pregnant to giving birth and to raising kids all has been very humbling. www.empoweringentrepreneurs.online

CHALLENGES AND REWARDS OF A WORKING MOM (ALL MOMS ARE WORKING MOMS)

I had delivered many babies before giving birth myself. I thought I knew what it would be like and was I wrong. I formally apologize to all the mothers before me. “Sorry, I thought I knew what being pregnant and having a baby was like, but I was wrong”. I also had so much to learn about raising children even though I had younger siblings and started babysitting when I was 12. It is knowledge I certainly didn’t learn in medical school. I literally remember paging through my large Pediatrics textbook for some useful information on breastfeeding (that resource was a waste of time). I know what the challenges were for me, raising kids, as a family physician in a small town in Wisconsin. For many years I delivered babies, got called to the

"Challenges and Rewards of a Working Mom" (ALL Moms are Working Moms) by Kathy Farah, MD

I am interested in what other mothers and grandmothers and those that support them have to say. So I asked the question of my friends and family and on social media “ What are your challenges and what do you want to hear about?” I was surprised to hear from relatives and friends that are newer moms and some that are grandmothers. There are some common themes not in any statistically significant order.

Emp wered By Virtual Assistants

One theme was what I felt trying to do it all. I heard and feel the frustration of trying to be a good mom, (with a partner or not) and then adding in the additional challenge of online schooling and daycare with the pandemic. It was shared that one is constantly comparing and criticizing ourselves. My niece Jenny shared that our society makes a person feel like they should perform at 100% level in all situations, home, work life, personal life and career. This is impossible. There is the reminder that we are doing the best we can. Another big theme is GUILT yes that is upper case GUILT. Many times I would feel guilty if I was at work and missing out on something my children were experiencing, and guilty if I was at home and perhaps not attending a medical meeting. It happens now as well with the grandkids. Others chimed in on that as well, including my former nanny who said “Feeling guilty for working so much and missing out on memories”. Others expressed guilt for wanting to spend time on self care. Consistently, Moms tend to put themselves last. This is ok until it isn’t.

www.empoweringentrepreneurs.online

22 APR-JUN 2022 | ISSUE 02

I had good child care and times when I had a nanny, which I know I could manage due to economic advantage. However, I was putting more and more on my plate without taking anything off. Often what was sacrificed was the hours of sleep I got at night. Or perhaps I was more irritable with my children or colleagues. Don’t get me wrong, being a mom has been the greatest gift of my life. My career has been important too. So that was my reality, and I wondered. What is the reality for moms today? I did not have to deal with a pandemic when I was raising my children. Covid has magnified the challenges.

"Challenges and Rewards of a Working Mom" (ALL Moms are Working Moms) by Kathy Farah, MD

My friend and colleague psychologist Margaret pointed out that this is a frequent topic of conversation amongst her peers with small children. She pointed out that Moms typically carry the emotional load and manage many things in the household during the second shift or frankly 24/7 shift (my addition). This has been heightened the last 2 years with the pandemic, working from home and balancing virtual school and struggling with those competing roles.

APR-JUN 2022 | ISSUE 02

23

Perpetuating the myth of “doing it all” is cited by my goddaughter Marina as the reason nearly 2 million women left the workforce during the pandemic. For many leaving their career was seen as the most viable option. I feel that the myth of “doing it all” is further enhanced by smiling parents and families shown on social media. For many, leaving their job is not an option, as rent has to be paid and food put on the table. My friends and relatives in their 70’s also chimed in. My sister Dianne recalled working, going to night school and balancing meals, dishes, homework of their own and kids. www.empoweringentrepreneurs.online

D e a l i n g w i t h u n e x p e c t e d i ll n e s s complicated the situation. Another woman of that generation that is still working full-time, mentioned running on stress. She pointed out the roles of raising children, grand children, being a mom, wife, grandmom, co-worker, and everything in between. Again, feeling guilty when trying to find some “me” time. Finding balance is shared as a challenge by many.

I feel honored to be a mother and accept the ups and downs that it brings I certainly see the effects of trying to do it all in my office with insomnia, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression and even cancer. Sounds pretty dismal right? I can not let you leave this article feeling worse t h a n w h e n y o u p i c k e d it u p . That is why I added to the title “Rewards” of moms. I feel honored to be a mother and accept the ups and downs that it brings. I am not an expert by any means. Certainly having MD behind my name did not confer

a n y h i d d e n k n o w l e d g e o r a d v a n t a g e . I h a v e l e a r n e d a l o t h o w e ve r, and would like to share some strategies I find helpful. The most important thing is that these strategies have to be Simple. So here are some ideas.

Strategies for MOMS: M-Mindfulness. Are your eyes rolling? When they are done read on. Mindfulness is a well researched form of meditation. No, I am not talking about sitting on the top of a mountain meditation (although I am quite sure there are days that is what you wish for). I am talking about mindfulness as “being in the moment” which is what it truly is. For example, I remember the times when the only meditation I could get in was folding my children’s clothes and “blessing” each one as I did so, rather than complaining about the task. Mindfulness can be done while preparing food to eat- just noticing all of your senses- the colors, smells, tastes, sound and feelings bring you out of your mind into the present. Meditation of all kinds is helpful. I just find Mindfulness to be the most practical. I got caught recently not being a mindful grandparent. I snuck a peek at my phone when my 6 year old granddaughter and I were playing. She said “ Grandma, play with me!” I said “ I thought I was”. “But you are looking at your phone!”. BUSTED! What was I doing? I savored spending time with her. After that I put the phone away so I could enjoy the fun of whatever it is she wants to do. I invite you to pick a time to be a Mindful Mom or Grandmother - maybe 5 mn a day for starters.

O-Outsource. What can you get someone else to do for your household? Of course the obvious is getting others in the household to do more. It’s an important one if you share the household with others. Does the phrase “The only way to do something right is to do it ourselves.” sound familiar? Perhaps if we relax our own expectations of how things are done. Does it really matter that much how the dishwasher is loaded? Can we shift that irritation to gratitude just for a moment? Now if your favorite sweater gets shrunk in the dryer you told them not to put it in, that is a different story. That may warrant a hissy fit!

S-SLEEP. Complete sentence. Get more, sleep longer. I can not overstate how important sleep is. I know many of you are not sleeping alone, and sleep can be disrupted by a snoring bed partner, little ones, pets-many of whom drift off to sleep while you are staring at them. We need sleep to rejuvenate. It is as essential as the air we breathe and food we eat. Even if you pride yourself on getting by on less sleep it will come back to haunt you, usually in the middle of the night. There are so many sleep tips I have to use myself. Getting to bed early enough, not using screens before bed, using a sleep mask, watching my caffeine intake, shutting off my brain. Self care is not selfish, it is essential. I believe in putting yourself on the calendar. Make an appointment with yourself. All of the above are examples of self care. You know what feeds you. Find pockets of time to fit You into each day.

IDENTIFY YOUR JOB PRIORITIES Working as a virtual assistant has several advantages, including complete control over your working style and schedule. However, once you begin working with your clients, you must ensure that your chosen schedule and the setting are compatible with their needs.
