MOUTHING TIPS Did you know? It is natural for puppies to use their mouths and teeth during play and exploration, but it is important to teach them not bite or nip people. Here are some ways to teach your puppy not to bite.
Redirect biting behavior: Whenever your puppy bites you, redirect their attention to a chew toy or another appropriate object to chew on. Remove yourself: Just remove yourself if they continue mouthing you. Avoid rough play: Avoid playing games like wrestling, tugof-war, and keep away with your puppy, as they can encourage biting and nipping behavior. Provide plenty of exercise and playtime: Puppies need plenty of exercise and playtime to release their energy and reduce the urge to bite or nip. Socialize your puppy: Socialize your puppy with other dogs and people so they learn to interact appropriately and not use biting or nipping as a means of play or communication.
