FSU SCRIMMAGE

oct. 14th 2023

We started our fall season by driving down to Lake Blackshear, Georgia, for a fun scrimmage between us, FSU, and UNF. The morning started off with the men’s novice 8+ taking off for their first ever race. In, of all things, a wet dock. We always stay prepared though, heading into the cold water hyped up for our races and bridal carrying our coxswains into the boat and to victory.

Our men’s 4+ was up next, before a novice team up between our novice women and FSU’s novices (and boat) for a women’s 8+, before finishing off with the women’s 4+. A pat on the back, some Bucee’s on the way back home, and a day well spent.

FALL ALUMNI banquet

We had our annual Head of the Pumpkin, alongside our typical family and alumni banquet. Of course, the event came with Halloween costumes. Novice women dressed up as as perfect copies of Coach Connor, the novice men embraced their nature as sailors, the varsity women paid homage to Barbie, and the varsity men were thinking about the Roman Empire.

After the intersquad scrimmages, we, family, and all the alumni that were able to show up had a nice sandwich lunch on a beautiful day in Stone Mountain.

Thank you for everybody who showed up. We’re genuinely very grateful for coming out to see and bond with us!

HEAD OF THE HOOCH

nov. 4th 2023

We went to beautiful Chattanooga, Tennessee for Head of the Hooch, the last great fall regatta and one of the highlights of this semester for us. We also got to give our new boat, the Wahl, its official debut with its beautiful blue and gold colors.

We started our morning off strong with our men’s varsity 4+, followed by our women’s novice 4+’s first official race of the season. We then brought in a narty (novice varsity) men’s 8+. Nine men in a boat, you love to see it. Our novices did especially good for their first official races, managing spots in the top half of the large pack of boats.

The men’s novice 4+ was next, followed by, finally, the women’s varsity 4+ with all our amazing senior rowers.

In between races, we got to go around the waterfront and take in the sights and all the vendors. But, burnt out from the day, we managed to head out, get yet another meal from Buckee’s, and get some rest back home before our final regatta of the season.

nov. 11th 2023

For our last race of the fall, we went down to Augusta, Georgia, for the Head of the South. We got there in a downpour, one that didn’t stop for the entire day.

The first race of the day was the men’s varsity 4+, followed by yet another narty boat for the women’s 8+. The men’s novice 4+ was up next, followed by a couple of sculling boats: Chuck in the men’s 1x and Ethan and Ally in the mixed 2x.

Our senior women then headed off in the varsity 4+, followed by some of the novices heading out for their second race of the day, in the men’s novice 8+ and the women’s novice 4+.

We finished the day off with some fresh baked goods from the Bends family and a well cooked chili and grilled cheese meal curtsey of Manatee Country Youth Rowing, and celebrated the medals earned by our scullers; silver in the men’s 1x and bronze in the mixed 2x.

Winter Fundraising Over the past few years, we’ve been working to rebuild our team and our facilities after the pandemic. Thanks to your help, we’ve been able to do just that, affording boat racks for our temporary boathouse, and even being able to buy a brand new four-person boat!

We’re incredibly thankful for the support. This year, we’re attempting to fundraise a new eight-person boat, since our current best-quality eight is older than the current average varsity rower. We hope to use this to support our team for the years to come, and to give future students the same opportunity that we have been able to have through Emory Crew.
