MOUNT LEMMON DENDROLOGY
Located in Summerhaven, AZ, the Mount Lemmon Dendrology Center is a research center and summer camp. Specializing in historical dating, environmental change, and reforestation for the surrounding area. During the summer, the center opens up to allow kids to come, observe, partake in research, and plant trees in and around Mount Lemmon.
The form integrates into the topography and is designed around the site’s most important trees. Large windows to the northeast accentuate views as well as offer ambient lighting throughout every space. Fixated opening focus certain views towards aspens, and trees, and overlooks the site below.
Fixated views, beig the main focus of the project, was achieved by the space in betweent he two volumes. This area is populated with trees and creates and enclosed space that directs your view to specific areas.
Exapanding on fixated views, the view from inside to outside was also important. This concept shows the relationship between the viewer and the idea of being seperate from their surroundings.
The relationship between the two forms was a driving concept throughout the project. Understanding the physical relationship as well as the visual relationship would create the central courtyard space and allow it to be the heard of the spaces. This would allow for seperation between private and public while also feeding into the research and camper aspects of the program.
Bisbee, Arizona has a community of unserved musicians and performers. “Music By Bisbee” is a performing arts center that supports upcoming musicians and performers while giving them a space to create and perform. The center is a space that partners with the Bisbee Music Festival which occurs annually. This festival moves throughout the city partially as a result of the lack of spaces dedicated to performance. This project aims to uplift the makers of Bisbee and positively influence people who strive to create.
Providing a variety of spaces, such as a cafe and hotel, the project is not just for performers but also provides a separate experience for the public as well. The hotel attracts visitors to stay in the small town in a central location while also providing activities nearby. Being directly connected to the city park, this location allows for a connection to the Bisbee culture and community.
Illusive light was an early concept incorporated into the design. This was accomplished by opening the roof of the main preformance space and carrying it through the autitorium. This creates meaningful light that gives the spaces purpose.
Using organic shapes, creating openings to light each space was important. The main opening being through the roof to allow for light to enter and light the stage. this creates a dramatic feeling that is unique to the preformance space.

The curving concept of this project developed from expressing the natural fluidity of music. While in contrast with Bisbee1s urban environment, the curves express movement and feeling. Each entry naturally welcomes and directs people toward the center of the site through experiential spaces. This concept of music evolved into each space providing a sense of togetherness and community. The courtyards invite and allow for a soft transition space throughout every level of the site. The site naturally being slopped, allowed for the design to create experiences that are accessible to people with diverse abilities.

Collaboration with Linea Skura, Andrew Rodriguez, Damien Brelay
A semester of collaboration to explore design fabrication of parrtern, layers, and pight interation. This screen wall has two main layers of horizontal and vertical wood slats that frame two openings. The upper opening allowed for a metal window to be placed to further minipulate light as well as frame views. The last step was to create a handle to help move the wall.
Through different projects, I have worked with different materials the main two being wood and concrete. These are some models done over the past two years using the two materials with some of the formwork and process.
MOUNT LEMMON - FALL 2022
SHADE STRUCTURE - FALL 2021
While working with concrete, trial and error is a main part of the process. I had three different iterations of this model before the final was formed. Insulation foam and basswood were the main materials used to make the form. The form was comprised of 97 different pieces of foam glued together and covered in polyacrylic to protect it from bonding to the concrete.
