Our founder Emma Hart Willard...
A BOLD WOMAN WITH A BIG IDEA.
Emma Hart Willard founded her school in 1814 with the vision that girls should be as highly educated as boys. Honoring our founder’s vision, we proudly foster in each student a love of learning, the habits of an intellectual life, and the character, moral strength, and qualities of leadership to serve and shape her world.
Built in 1910, our 137-acre campus on Mount Ida is a historic landmark featuring ornate collegiate gothic architecture & 40 acres of natural woods.
Did you know Emma’s historic campus is known for its gargoyles and grotesques? The façade of Alumnae Chapel features...
6gargoyles a carved animal or human attached to a building that acts as a water spout
27grotesques a carved animal or human attached to a building that is merely decorative
