Welsh housing associations are already stepping up to the mark and taking on the challenge at speed. And not only are they looking at sustainability, but they are driving innovation and quality into their agenda through the adoption of the Welsh Development Quality Requirements 2021 – Creating Beautiful Homes & Places Strategy. The Welsh Government is aiming for private developers to adopt the requirements by 2025 which will mean no more gas boilers to heat properties and well-designed homes which will boost wellbeing and unite communities. A total of £100 million is being made available over the next five years to support social landlords across Scotland to install zero emissions heating systems and energy efficiency measures across their existing stock. The Government also issued its UK Hydrogen Strategy in August which includes a section on how hydrogen could be used to heat homes.
