Cough etiquette Understanding and following appropriate cough etiquette is an important way to help keep each other safe. Follow the below instructions to help stop the spread of coughs, colds and flu.

Keep your cough under cover Remember to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze or cough, and then throw the tissue in the bin right away. If you don’t have a tissue handy, you can cough or sneeze into your sleeve or elbow. 1

Practice good hygiene If you’ve been coughing or sneezing, be sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds using soap and water. If you don’t have access to these, consider using a hand sanitizer with an alcohol rating of at least 60%. 2

Call ahead before visiting a health care clinic or pharmacy If you are feeling unwell and have a cough, be sure to call your health care clinic or pharmacy before you visit. This will help stop the spread of any viruses and ensure you know what to do when you visit.

Stay Covid Safe 3) Get checked and call ahead

As we continue through our second year of COVID-19, it is important to remember that it is up to all of us to keep each other healthy and well. Here are 5 simple ways to stay covid safe in 2021.

If you are experiencing covid symptoms, book a covid test. Your local GP clinic or pharmacy can tell you where to find your nearest testing location. Remember to call ahead to let your pharmacist or GP know that you are experiencing symptoms.

1) Understand the symptoms According to the Department of Health and Human Services1, the main symptoms to watch out for are: • Chills or sweats • Cough • Sore throat • Shortness of breath • Runny nose • Fever • Loss or change in sense of smell or taste Some people have also reported experiencing headaches, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhoea.

4) Practice good hygiene Practice good hygiene by regularly washing your hands for at least 20 seconds using soap and water. It is a good idea to always wash your hands when you arrive home, at work and before and after eating.

5) Maintain physical distancing Keep at least 1.5 meters away from others wherever possible and carry a face mask for times when you cannot maintain this distance.

Remember, some places like hospitals and doctor’s clinics may require you to wear a mask in addition to the 1.5 meter rule.2

2) Stay informed

Don’t forget – your local pharmacist is always here to help! If you have any questions or concerns about staying covid safe this winter, head over to your local pharmacy.
