A library should be a social gathering space, like a community centre, which should take care the populations and the culture around. The Oval Cricket Ground has a significant legend in the history in the area, which a library within the area cannot neglect; and with many primary schools and offices around, a library in the Borough of Lambeth need to act not just as a library but also a social gathering space with cricket culture concerning both groups of the population.
Thus, as a piece of very local civic feature in the area, a library is a backyard, a living room, a shelter, a playground, a social gathering space, and of course, still a library - a place full of knowledge on cricket with books and many other types of media.

The tree comes from the idea of bringing the greens from the area into the programme to show the distinct local character, and the cilinder brings the community together in a circle. One continues from the micro-library, and the other follows the shape/form of oval cricket ground. By stacking, doubling, adding, subtracting, twisting, rotating and etc. the lines and the curves are formed into more complex shapes to creat space for reading. Since Soho is very diversed nowadays, we found an interesting object from the area just on the corner of Greek street and Old Compton street right next to Prince Edward Theatre, a French bistro chair used in a 1960’s Hong Kong style bun place...
This narrative object represents not only the culture diversity of Soho (now), but it is also where artists and musicians spent time the most, either sitting alone, getting inspirations, or talking about their daily life with their artists musician friends other than thinking about work in the old days... From the research in the previous project that was focused on the historical aspect of the area of Soho, we found that the area was always involved with the four main catgories - artists, musicians, clubs, and theatres throughout the history. The area was especially an important gathering centre for the musicians and artists.
Because our interest is also to recycle and remake from the waste of the area, the concept “re-use, renew, re-create“ is also used for the object, and we decided to make the weaving out of waste plastic bags from the area.

One of the most versatile comfort foods in Canton ese cuisine, but previously none in London were fresh and well made. Designed & co-founded by Z He, owner/interior architect of the interiors studio Five Line Projects on 27 March 2017. ‘We are very excited to be opening in Soho – one of the most visited neighbourhoods in one of the busiest cities in the world. It clearly showed how Soho is all about blending and mixing different cultures together in the present days, and this is also what we think the most interesting and unique aspect of the area.

To continue with the idea from the narrative object, the technique and the use of weaving is chosen to tell the story of Soho in my personal perspective and observation, which have decided to use it as a screen / divider like a curtain to seperate the space into different functions, either internal or external.

To carry on with the ideas from project one - looking at the historical aspect of the area, project two - making an object that narrates my view of Soho, and to project three - a spacial moment of my building programme, the population - artists and the public in general from the area are chosen to be the target, and the fabric (weaving technique) is used to be part of the building - facade.

In order to make the glass fibre fabric useful and maximise its function as a facade, it is more ideal to have a structure by itself already underneath the fabric rather than only having a frame structure underneath the facade like the Mini-Living by SO-IL.
All church buildings are built with the hope of interpreting the Christian doctrine perspective of the world (weltanschauung in German). The Tamsui Church emphasises eternity, universality and community. Because of the difficulty to acquire land rights and the crowdedness of metropolitan spaces in Taiwan, religious architecture in this country often ought to confront the distance between man and heaven caused by the vertical massing of buildings. Unlike European churches that are able to create sanctity through structure, elevated space and mysterious lighting between the ground level and roof, the Tamsui Church also has to face the challenge of fulfilling the building code and floor area requirements by vertically stacking both the day‐to‐day and sacred spaces of the church. How to build a holy and sanctified place that embraces the love and compassion within the society is the most critical focus on the design of the Tamsui Church. The architecture of cathedrals often uses cruciform shape as the main element to organise its space; the design concept of the Tamsui Church is also based on the cross, but in a broader sense. It interweaves people’s lives through the church celebrations and their daily life and brings nature into the city life.
Churches in Taiwan play a different role in the society than they do in Europe. Pastor Juang from the Tamsui Church once said that the Tamsui Church would be a church where anyone would be welcomed, and he wanted to put the focus on its role of social welfare—under the premise of recognising “everyone is a sinner,” and “nobody is perfect,” it would help remedy the defects in the society. Thus, the Tamsui Church leaves more than half of their facilities to be used as a social welfare centre, emphasising communication but not hierarchy, security but not distance. The architecture must reflect on its social responsibility, bearing the cross to serve this land.

The site is located on the northernmost side of the island of Taiwan, and Danhai District in New Taipei City is a windy and rainy city in the coastline. The building faces the harsh conditions of this seashore and embraces the beautiful scenery of this environment. Although, the customised thick double layered walls can be used as an architectural element that regulates the climate, they as well play the role of intertwining lives within the space.
