MENDING COLLEGE CREEK

Iowa State University Ames, Iowa

Spring 2022, LA 602

The goal of this project was to bring attention to College Creek in Ames, Iowa that flows throughout Iowa State’s campus. The creek is currently hidden under the streets and landscaping with peaks of it in secluded parts of campus.

This entire project was done by hand until finals week for the final submission of Intro to Digital Design, students needed to digitize their work in Adobe Suites, AutoCAD, SketchUp or Rhino, and Lumion.

The design was done for fulfillment of LA Studio 602 Conceptual Design. The main focus of this studio was to force students to think conceptually starting with a sculpture park project and ending with daylighting.

BUDVA SHORE

LA 604, Urban Design Studio

The Budva Promenade competition allowed for students to learn how to activate urban waterfront spaces. Located in Montenegro where there is evident urban development along the cities coast. Creating a divide between residents and tourists blocking accessibility.

The project deals with not only the urban fabric but also with the Adriatic Sea, where they are vulnerable to the impact of sea level rise.

Respiration Hub, the central hub of the site where users can find children play environments, yoga lawns, and an open air market.

Within the ReVamp Warehouse, indoor camping, farm-to-table gardens, a gallery, and a cafe can be found on the first floor. On the second floor, the apartments have been converted to accommodate artist studios ranging from tattoos to hairstylists.

Within the Leafbook library, there is a children’s nature-themed library, community art classrooms, and a community center. Within the outdoor space, there are several opportunities for growth and education. The leafbook library opens out onto the outdoor classroom and the storybook loop. The storybook loop can be customized to fit the season or a different education tool. The school across from the site allows children to access the site directly.

Heart of Maffitt

This studio project in LA 603 is focused on children’s environments and master planning. Throughout the semester I have learned how to behavior map, rate sites using SitesV2, and start to develop master plans.

Maffitt Reservoir is located in Des Moines, Iowa. It is one of the many reservoirs the area has. Maffitt’s central use is as a water reservoir during droughts. Currently, there have been several projects planned but never finished. The site is a hidden gem in Des Moines and is starting to gain attraction as suburbs are built around it.

Where I’m from

I am from a city where the Rock River flows, Mornings scented with rice, where the railroad echoes grow. My home is a place of laughter and cultures intertwined, Tiger lilies and Thai chili peppers in the garden, to find.

The “Smith” family’s union, two worlds combined. Our ties are entwined from the Saibaidei, Gin Khao, and Khob Chai.

Eggrolls sizzled, and pho simmered on the stove, A house filled with love and dinners, where hearts intertwined.

Our weekly dinners, a time to reunite,

With every bite, tales and memories take flight. A family so varied, bonded together as we grew.

A small college by the river, where Vikings cheered, By the Mississippi, the land was studied year after year. From every corner of the world, we came together, Where cultures overlapped, and bonds with friends declared. A love for the outdoors as two worlds aligned, Gathering under the canopies and starry skies in nature’s design. Among the diverse landscapes, a love was formed and took flight, From the rolling hills to lakes, day and night.
