ABOUT ME

hello,

I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Interior Design at Washington State University. After graduation, I will continue my education at WSU through the 4+1 Masters Program with a focus on researching the psychological impacts of lighting design in an interior environment. I have a deep love for all things art and design, especially 3d modeling/ rendering. My enjoyment of problem-solving and thinking of creative solutions to challenging situations has continued to drive my passion for design. I am excited to further develop my skills and grow my experience working in the design field.

This portfolio comprises some selected work from my studios and projects spanning from 2020-2023. The works reflect an interest in creating spaces that are mentally, physically, and socially enriching and fulfilling. I am eager to design spaces that allow me to explore my imagination and use problem-solving skills to achieve the best outcome for its users. My passion for designing for the comfort and well-being of the occupants is reflected in my works.

CONTENTS

pathway pavilion 01

The Pathway Pavilion is centered around the human experience. The water is the central feature and is designed in a zig-zag motion to allow the water to flow smoothly between the structure. The asymmetric pathways are intended for occupants to walk and sit over the water. The various dome-shaped covering provides shaded areas for sitting and conversation. This pavilion provides an open structure for individuals to roam throughout the structure, however, it also contains shaded covering to aid in the human experience and comfort.

On the North-East and South-West corners, there are two sets of seating provided. Including a variety of seating arrangements allows the users to see unique and different views of both the water and the pavilion.

Throughout working on the water pavilion project, my skills and knowledge of software including Sketchup, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Lumion, and InDesign grew exponentially as I continued to make progress on the Pathway Pavilion.

oak tree elementary 02

Using Evidence-Based Design (EBD), the design of Oak Tree Elementary encapsulates an environment that generates academic growth, sparks creativity through interactive learning, and immerses students in a biophilic space. The design process and creation stemmed from analyzing Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in education and exploring research and studies discussing the benefits of hands-on learning and creating a connection to nature at a young age. In early education, allowing access to these environments can provide a space for students to flourish academically, physically, and socially.

The curved bookshelves are intentionally kept at a low height for the comfort of the young students and to help with safety and visibility.

Within the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, there are sitting coves. This integration was intended for the user to have the opportunity for more privacy in their activities while the adult/teacher is able to maintain constant visual access.

The design of the space, furniture, and finishes support an academically enriching classroom with incorporations of curvilinear features and interactive teaching systems.

The unit features a two-level multi-storage and teaching opportunity. The top level opens into an interactive smart board alongside extra storage. The bottom portion of the unit is intended for a mobile presentation cart and tech device cart storage. The lower section has the ability to be secured by a key for extra safety.

Over the teacher’s desk, the built-in unit incorporates two levels of over-the-head shelving. This was intended to give the teacher a space for their belongings or personal trinkets.

The integrated teaching unit paired with the modular group tables gives the faculty and students the flexibility to perform numerous types of activities.

When the whiteboard panels are placed together in the middle, each side features a variety of storage space.

The integrated classroom features a window bench comfortable for 2-3 students. The addition of the bench was intended for students to have the option and accompanied space to explore different seating options and activities beyond the traditional teaching throughout the day.

Intended to be used as a primary teaching unit, the custom unit features floorto-ceiling whiteboard panels that are able to be slid apart. Once slid in opposite directions, it opens up to an interactive touchscreen monitor above a section of pull-out drawers.

agritourism 03

Utilizing 3rd place theory, specifically looking through the lens of both the introvert and extrovert experience, we are providing a flexible sensory experience where the users feel like they have a choice in their surroundings. We aimed to respect the existing site by continuing the feeling of intimacy and care throughout the design with a balance between soft vs. hard features and materials.

This project was done in collaboration with Hailey Parkison.

Inspired by the Italian term “Moti Mentali” we strived to understand the varied needs and intentions of the potential audience. The continued and newly provided activities include small and large group wine tastings, wine and food pairing education, private and communal cooking and dining spaces, diverse sensory seating arrangements, and unique photo opportunities.

To enhance the feeling of intimacy, we took advantage of the existing biophilia to act as a natural barrier, allowing the casettas to be organically placed and separated.

rooming

The casetta designs aimed to create a comfortable and Tuscan-inspired living experience. Each casetta has its own unique range of materiality and floor layouts. The majority of the rooms include floor-to-ceiling semi-seethrough curtains. This was to provide flexibility in users’ lighting preferences and to continue the balance of soft vs. hard materials. The casettas took inspiration from traditional Tuscan interiors and architecture, specifically through the mixed types of wood, a combination of geometric and curvilinear shapes and movements.

The outdoor pavilion space includes a variety of seating conditions and experiences. These include a waiting area, lounge, and traditional seating spaces for small and large groups, a semi-private photo opportunity walkway, and a partially covered large table booth seating. To be able to use this space year-round, we incorporated a pavilion type of shelter with semi-frosty Murano glass overhead.
