WELCOME TO OUR 31ST ANNUAL PRODUCTION SALE. We’ve been selling bulls for over 40 years and have met many great cattle producers. We value each person who buys our genetics. We have many contacts throughout the industry and will try to align you to the best marketing situation to MAKE YOU MONEY. We are quite different than many bull suppliers. We run a commercial cowherd in addition to our seedstock cattle and finish the progeny we raise. We believe having proof of how our genetics gain, feed, and kill on the rail sets us apart from many other bull suppliers. Over the past 6 years we have averaged 95% Choice or higher on the rail with 64-65% dressing percentage!

2022 was a year that tested our genetics for fertility, growth, and fleshing ability due to the dry summer. We again were very pleased with our FERTILITY in the challenging environment averaging 95% breed back. We believe FERTILITY is the #1 trait in the cow business and our Balancer, Sim x Angus, Red Angus, and Gelbvieh are key breeds to this trait. SCIENCE is the reason Crossbreeding has become a major driver of our operation. No one single breed can offer all the traits it takes to stay profitable in today’s complex beef industry. We offer maternal breeds that offer tremendous growth and carcass merit traits. We are always pleased to watch our customers top many feeder calf sales in the area! We are also a proud seedstock partner with Top Dollar Angus and we think there is a great financial return to your operation buying Top Dollar Angus qualified bulls.

We are excited with the depth of the bulls this year. The GRU EARLY ENCOUNTER sons have been some of the top selling bulls in the country and we will have a good selection of these bulls along with some new outcross genetics. The Red bulls along with the Sim x Angus bulls are a very deep set of bulls. Hybrid Vigor and Heterosis will be on display with these bulls! GUARANTEE:

All bulls selling for $3500 or more are guaranteed for the first breeding season. A breeding season is defined as a 90-day period following the first turn out date of the bull. This is not an insurance policy. If a bull develops a problem, proper treatment or vet care is advised. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided. If the buyer prefers no replacement bull, we will provide credit towards another bull in the following year, less the salvage value of the injured bull. Please notify us as soon as possible should a death or injury occur.

SIGHT- UNSEEN GUARANTEE:

If you are unable to attend the sale, we are offering a sight –unseen-program. We also will be broadcasting the sale on DV Auction to allow you to see a video of the bulls selling. EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES

DO THEY MATTER?

We are proud of the genetic improvement and years of performance data that are showcased in these bulls EPD’s. The bulls are weighed and adjusted to the age of the calf. They are put into contemporary groups and then ranked against each other. Once weights are taken, the bulls EPD’s reflect the performance information from the bull, his sire, dam and other relatives along with genomic information. EPD’s change weekly since breeders throughout the country submit weights and measurements yearly. Taking this information into account, comparison is most accurate when using EPD’s instead of individual weights.

Selection of a bull for your operation is one of the most important jobs that will impact your operation for years to come. Visual appraisal continues to be an important tool when choosing your next herd sire. However, genetic predictions, especially with the progression of genomics has helped us be more accurate in predicting how his calves will perform. We at Grund Beef Genetics believe you CAN have both phenotype and performance! To help on the genetic selection side, we have helped simplify genetic selection this year through these unique “stamps” based upon the EPD’s and pedigrees of the bulls selling.

CALVING EASE STAMP

We strive to produce young sires that will rank in the Top 20% of the breed for Calving Ease Direct (CED) that grow fast and add pounds in the right package. CED is the most important indicator to help ensure less difficulties when calving, the bulls with a Calving Ease stamp in the catalog are ones deemed safe for use on first calf heifers.

Maternal traits are essential for profitability in the cattle industry. If you are keeping replacement heifers, the bulls with a Maternal stamp have had their dam or granddam receive Dam of Merit or Dam of Distinction honors. Of all cows in the Gelbvieh Association, only the top 5% qualify for Dam of Merit and top 1% for Dam of Distinction!

As referenced throughout the catalog, we are proud to be partners in Top Dollar Angus. To feed a growing world, it’s our job as producers to produce a high-quality product. Growth, feedlot performance and carcass merit will continue to be important in the cattle business. Bulls with this stamp qualify for the Top Dollar Angus program with details by their name.

IGENITY – 50K

No matter the goals of your operation, you want to be sure your next herd sire breeds true to his EPDS when making breeding decisions. The Igentity stamp recoginizes the bulls that have been 50K DNA tested for genomically enhanced EPD. Bulls with this stamp have higher accuracy EPDs.

Not only do these herd sires excel in the economically relevant traits that will add value to your calf crop, but they are backed by some of the most prolific mothers within the breed.

The American Gelbvieh Association honors females in the herdbook that display fertility and maternal superiority through the Dam of Merit program. Of the 40,132 active cows in the AGA herdbook, only 5% of the females qualify. GRUND BEEF GENETICS and family rank 12th amongst all active breeders for total number of Dam of Merit Females. All great cowherds start with a strong foundation, rest assured these bulls are backed by some of the best females in the breed.

29DAM OF MERITS

UNDERSTANDING THE Feeding

All the bulls are fed at GRUND BEEF GENETICS – which allows us to keep the cattle in their natural surroundings and away from other feedlot cattle that could expose the bulls to numerous diseases found in a feedlot setting. The bulls also have a large pen for exercise. The bulls are weaned on a moderate energy ration and then are fed a denser ration for November, December and January. The bulls are weighed and ultrasounded the first of February and then are moved back to a moderate energy ration until sale time.

We feel that 90 days of feeding a denser feed allows the bulls to sort themselves in terms of growth traits which is reflected in their EPD’s once weights are taken. The bull’s individual weights and pedigree helps determine his EPD’s. Our bulls typically ultrasound 0.15 to 0.20 backfat and are ready to breed cows at turnout time!
