BULLETIN EDITORS MESSAGE Welcome to the fall 2023 edition of the CKI bulletin! I hope the fall semester has treated everyone well! I am excited to share all of the amazing work that our members have done this semester in our immediate and extended community.

This update will feature the incredible events CKI has done this semester, special messages from our Kiwanis partners, and upcoming events!

If anyone has questions or comments about the bulletin or would like to submit a message for a future bulletin, feel free to reach out to me!

HEART OF SERVICE

HELPING OUR COMMUNITY IN AND AROUND THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY IS THE MAIN GOAL OF CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL AT OSU. SERVICE IS A BIG PART OF ALL OF OUR MEMBER’S LIVES AND THEY ARE EACH DEDICATED TO MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THEIR COMMUNITY. THIS PAST SEMESTER OUR CLUB HAS DONE 330 HOURS OF SERVICE. WE HAVE MADE BLANKETS FOR PROJECT LINUS, PROVIDED FOOD FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS THROUGH MEALS ON WHEELS AND FEED THE FUNNEL, FUNDRAISED FOR UNICEF BRICK X BRICK, COLLABORATED WITH FLOW TO KEEP OUR ENVIRONMENT CLEAN, AND SO MUCH MORE! THE LEVEL OF COMPASSION AND DEVOTION THAT OUR MEMBERS HAVE SHOWN FOR EACH OF THESE PROJECTS TRULY EXEMPLIFIES THE HEART OF SERVICE. OUTSIDE OF SERVICE, OUR CLUB HAS BONDED THROUGH FUN SOCIALS AND ACTIVITIES AT OUR WEEKLY MEETINGS. OUR MEMBERS GOT TO KNOW EACH OTHER AT AN ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND SEEING LIGHTS AT THE COLUMBUS ZOO. WE HAVE ALSO ENJOYED MEETINGS PLAYING FREERICE AND WOODWORKING AT KIWANIAN RANDY’S WOODSHOP. THESE EVENTS HAVE HELPED OUR MEMBERS BOND AND STRENGTHEN OUR HEART OF SERVICE! WE ARE EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT OUR CLUB RECEIVES FROM OUR MEMBERS AND THE CIRCLE K ALUMNI SOCIETY AT OSU. OUR CLUB WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HELP OUR COMMUNITY IN THE WAY THAT WE DO WITHOUT YOUR CONTINUED DEDICATION AND SUPPORT! Page 4

UNIVERSITY KIWANIS IS OFF UNTIL 1/3, WHICH WILL BE OUR DECEMBER BOARD MEETING VIRTUALLY. WE WILL HAVE A SERVICE PORJECT AT STARHOUSE ON 1/10. WE WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY HOLIDAY AND ALL OF THE BEST IN 2024!

MESSAGE FROM DISTRICT GOVERNOR HI BUCKEYES, MY NAME IS ALEISA TOBIN AND I HAVE THE HONOR TO SERVE YOU AS GOVERNOR OF THE MIGHTY OHIO DISTRICT OF CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL. I AM A FOURTH-YEAR STUDENT AT BOWLING GREEN STATE UNIVERSITY MAJORING IN SCIENCE EDUCATION. I LOVE DISNEY, TRAVELING, AND SERVING AT ANIMAL SHELTERS. I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE YOU TO OUR CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT CONVENTION WHICH IS TAKING PLACE FEBRUARY 16-18TH AT CAPITAL UNIVERSITY (COLUMBUS, OHIO).

THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND, WE WILL HAVE AMAZING WORKSHOPS, SERVE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY, HEAR FROM GUEST SPEAKERS, SHARE MEALS TOGETHER AND CELEBRATE OUR CLUB’S ACHIEVEMENTS. ALL CIRCLE K MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND! ADDITIONALLY, OUR REGISTRATION PAGE FOR DISTRICT CONVENTION IS OPEN HERE. WE HOPE TO SEE SOME BUCKEYES THERE! OUR DISTRICT SERVICE PROJECT IS SEASONS OF SERVICE WHICH WILL FOCUS ON A CIRCLE K SERVICE INITIATIVE EACH SEASON. FROM AUGUST 1ST TO OCTOBER 31ST, OUR DISTRICT FOCUSED ON SERVING CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT. WE ESTIMATE THAT OUR CLUBS SERVED ABOUT 350 HOURS DEDICATED TO CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT. OUR NEW SEASON OF SERVICE IS FOCUSING ON MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WHICH STARTED ON NOVEMBER 1ST, 2023 AND WILL END ON JANUARY 31ST, 2024. WE HOPE OSU'S CIRCLE K CAN PARTICIPATE BY COMPLETING SERVICE PROJECTS CENTERED AROUND MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS IN THIS TIME PERIOD! WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SPRING RECRUITMENT SEASON AND CLUB ELECTIONS! WE ENCOURAGE YOU BUCKEYES TO CONSIDER STEPPING UP TO LEADERSHIP ROLES AND TO CONTINUE YOUR MEANINGFUL IMPACT. up with another fundraiser or two to help cover some of our expenses, and I want to find a way to take advantage of OSU’s programming funds.

TTM AND TOT RECAP

This year was the 50th of the teeter-totter marathon, making it the longest running service project at OSU! This incredible fundraiser features huge teetertotters being placed around campus for volunteers and bystanders to ride and donate. Our club was fundraising for UNICEF’s Brick x Brick initiative and over two days we managed to collect $1,065.

In addition to TTM, some of our members participated in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. ToT is another annual Kiwanis family tradition where members go door-to-door and ask for spare change to donate to the Brick x Brick project.

With our member’s amazing efforts, we collected $264 for UNICEF. A total of $1,378 was donated to Brick x Brick, which will be supporting families in Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa by building schools from bricks made with plastic waste. Money raised will not only go to help build classrooms, but help build communities by training teachers, providing school supplies, and supporting improved hygiene and infection prevention and control. Huge thank you to everyone who helped with these events, we wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without our amazing donors and volunteers!
