Angle of repose demonstrated by excavated soil. Cracking, dry clay underneath from tree removal

Ground Conditions

Expansion and contraction in silty clay

Soil conditions: fill, highly reactive clay with angle of repose at 45 degrees, floaters, extremely weathered basalt rock and basalt rock (critical zone for compaction on basalt rock and line of influence)

Strip footing with bar chairs, connectors and insulation

Pad footing with reinforcement cage

Footings Bored pier with three layers of reinforcement and strip footing with ligs and connectors

Grand Floor Slab

Two layers of reinforcement, overlapping at joints, on top of bar chairs. Cardboard void formers degrade eventually on top of sand bed and water proof membrane (overlapping to combat joints)

Hollow core slabs with reinforcement, heating coils and bar chairs. Screed to cover. Poured in situ concrete on side to fill in gap and bars cast in to connect to suspended plant room slab.

Camber in hollow core slab and expansion joint between pieces.

Hollow Core Slab

Packers and grout under column to keep it level when placing on site. Grout tubes and cogs connect column to pad footing.

Pre-cast chamfered column. Reinforcing at sides to combat buckling, hook cast into concrete to lift into place

Pre-Cast Column

Column connects to pre-cast beam. Expansion joint between column and slab

Pre-Cast Beam Reinforcement in beam. Bars protrude from hollow core slab and concrete poured on top of beam with additional reinforcement.

Aluminium window frame with thermal breaks

Windows

Doubled glazed glass to provide thermal break

Cladding

Block work under window, cavity block wall. Reinforcement to cast into slab. Grout in cavity sloped to fall. Flashing to direct water through weep holes.

Foil board insulation. Damp proof course on top of third layer of blocks.

Hollow blocks with reinforcement cast inside. Foil board insulation in cavity. Capping over top of both layers.

Lower cladding. Hot rolled PFCs welded to steel EA. Girts to support cladding. Cladding clips into place. Insulation between girts, over window head and within water permeable sarking.

Similar system to lower cladding. Cladding panels rust to give brown colour. Insulation stops at roof line. Parapet capped and sloped to create wash.

Plant Room

Square hollow sections to create plant room frame. Wire mesh fixed to frame. Water piping cast into concrete slab.

Plant Room door, lintel cast into block work. Control joint runs from corner of door. Suspended slab with Bondeck form work. Temporary props for duration of curing. Bar chairs and reinforcement in slab.

Left to right: Flashing cast into blockwork. Parapet capping on blockwork cavity wall. Insulated roof sheeting sandwich panel, Overlapping at joints.

Furring channels clip into Hijoists and support plasterboard. Insulation batts.

Packers and battens to create roof slop, braced with straps. Roof slop denoted by packers and hyjoist height.

Roof Unilam beam with flexible connection to structural PFC. Bracing between hyjoists. Box gutter supported by PFC, wrapped in insulation, corrugated metal sheet to take weight of gutter. PFCs connected with metal straps to battens.

Internal Wall. Steel stud framing system with holes to allow for electrical wires. Expansion joint above wall to allow for slab deflection. Insulation within studs and fire-proof plasterboard glued on and painted. Plywood panel on right for design intent with same construction method.
