Om mig Mitt namn är Emil Stefansson, 27 år, pappa och make och precis färdigutbildad arkitekt. Från Umeå till Lund via Reykjavik har jag nått målet, med Ságastallam/Dialogue som examensarbete, Jag har där valt att behandla frågor som handlar om samexistens mellan vandrare och renskötare i svenska fjällvärlden. Resultatet är en enkel stuga där både samiska värderingar och turistens äventyrslust belyses och förstärks.

Under arkitektutbildningen växte sig ett redan stort intresse för kulturella upplevelser ännu större. Flera studieresor genomfördes, bland annat till Indien och Filippinerna, två resor som präglat inte bara mina arkitektoniska intressen, utan också mina arkitektoniska värderingar. Kulturella upplevelser är, enligt mig, det som leder oss framåt och brädar trångsynthet och fördomar. Mina egna upplevelser av arkitekturen på dessa platser använder jag som tillgång i mitt skapande, bland annat vad gäller klimatanpassning.

Som vetgirig och lättlärd är jag den som ständigt snöar in på specialområden. Mycket är onödig kunskap, men det kommer väl till pass på popquizen.

Men ofta kommer det också till användning, t ex när man behöver lära sig nya program, referera ett historiskt byggnadsskick till ett nytt eller använda sig av ny teknik.

Mellan min BA och min MA har jag frilansat för andra mindre företag. Min erfarenhet av dem varierar från bygglov och bygghandlingar av nybyggnation, tillbyggnader och fast inredning till skissförslag och tillverkningsritningar, mest i ArchiCAD. Social hållbarhet och enkla, men effektiva lösningar är väl vad jag ser som det viktigaste för arkitekturen.

"Vem som helst kan skapa bra och dyr arkitektur, men inte vem som helst kan skapa bra och billig arkitektur", sa min examinator Johnny Åstrand innan vi åkte till Filippinerna. Jag tycker det sammanfattar min arkitektoniska inriktning ganska väl.

Ságastallam / Dialogue 2021 / Academic Project / Master Thesis Project A humble, yet popping cabin in Sarek National Park is designed for both reindeer herders and tourists in order to strengthen the herder's position, control the tourists' movements in the deep wilderness, and bring them closer by establishing a dialogue between the stakeholders with the help of architecture.

Up in the Squair (Honorable Mention) 2021 / Competition / Evolo Skyscraper Competition Like the skyscraper is a vertical city, this proposal deals with the notion of verticality in a historic context rather than the skyscrapers' original. By rethinking the skyscraper as a vertical translation of its urban fabric, a new skyscraper typology is created.

Following a study trip to Metro Manila, this community driven social housing takes inspiration from other social housing projects visited. It is positioned on a disaster prone site and focuses on noise levels, trust, climate adaptation, and resilience. This is achieved much because of the hollow concrete block.

Sea Through 2019 / Academic Project / Sustainable Urban Recycling Ystad Harbour is facing an urban transformation following the moving of the industries and the ferry activity. It should benefit from Ystad's history, the harbour's present character, and future challenges while simultaneasly reconnect to the city.

Out of Site 2018 / Competition / Iceland Northern Lights Rooms These huts in Iceland was asked to have mobile features to adjust to the local nature conservation laws near the lake adjecent to the site. The huts are targeted to bring the user closer to their surrounding landscape, water, and sky.

The Housing Market 2018 / Academic Project / Bachelor Project Following a study trip to Ahmedabad, India, this multi-prupose building aims to provide colorful housing for the poor vegetables salesmen on a market site as well as improving the market by providing shade, seatings, kitchens and toilets.

Backyard Boulder 2017 / Academic Project / Exchange Semester Project A boulder-like music school is placed in a topographically divided backyard of a slumbering industrial area. It aims to connect the site to itself while bringing spatial and musical harmony to a otherwise metallic noisy area.

Chai-Corner House 2016 / Academic Project / Reflecting by Design An exercise to design an Indian house for a three-generation family with an income-generating activity.

This house adapts to an urban block-constillation and the streets while mixing private with public through the chai café.

2016 / Academic Project / Buildings in the Hinterland A public building that strives to make the people of the small town Vännäs to rediscover the disconnected river. While providing an indoor pool the inhabitants are longing for, the town also gain, among others, an amphithatre, a roof-top skate park and boccia fields.

A Road is Not a Street 2015 / Academic Project / Inhabiting the Hinterland A wide road cutting through a neighbourhood, dividing it into two clusters as a consequence, is redrawn and exploited with stacked volumes along it to emphasize the village's village character, maintain a transparency and reconnect the disconnected areas.

The Game of Life 2020 / Academic Project / Creative Tools A course in Rhino and Grasshopper with the result purposed to present everyone's participation. Each student had to design a Marching Cubes element and then produce a tower consisting of a mixture of those with the help of a point cloud script.

Plommonet 20 2019 / Private Client / Building Permit, Extension A simple extension developed together with the client. The detailed development plan did not approve such a large extension, which forced the project to go through two instances: building permit and "attefall" extension permit. To give the house more heart and another bedroom, the ground floor was extended.

Strömma 1:313 2019 / Private Client / Construction Documents A new villa built in Strömma, a small sea-side community one hour east of Stockholm. The task was to simply finalize the design by defining details, windows and doors, levels, dimensions, and thicknesses of the materials and building components.

A wardrobe with custom-made doors for a bedroom to allow for maximum use of the floor area. The placement allowed for a undisrupted arrangement.

The narrow doors occupy less space, allow for a large bed to fit while opened, and is 600 necessary for proper circulation during rush hours.

Bergborren 1 (in progress) 2021 / Private Client / Construction Documents A storage solution in red Valchromat for a tiny hallway for better organization of seasonal outdoor clothes, shoes, and bicycle equipment as well as providing a long awaited seating surface. The red surface stays red even when cut and juxtaposes the characteristic wall paper next to it.

Drone Photography 2018 - Now A big part of my interest in travelling can be seen through the eyes of a drone. The drone allow for unique perspectives that will not be achieved otherwise. A good example is the top-down-perspective, hard to achieve even with helicopter, but a piece of cake with a steady gimbal on a drone.

I like to play with symmetries and contrasts in my photos. Landscapes, natural spectacles and consequences by mankind's presence are my main motifs.

Flying in dense cities to add a new dimension of urban exploration, or on a mountain top after a long ascent, the best way to capture the moment is with a drone.
