Shock road option puts family’s future on hold A FAMILY that has farmed in Siston for five generations is facing an uncertain future because of the M4 Junction 18a proposals. Edgar Webb, who is nearly 70, could have to move away from Gingells Farm, on the outskirts of Pucklechurch, where he has lived all his life, if the eastern option link from the motorway to the A4174 Avon Ring Road goes ahead. His wife Mary, in an emotional speech at a packed public meeting last month, said the proposals unveiled in early July were devastating. Either of the eastern options would mean a dual carriageway cutting right across the family’s farm. It was “a significant and catastrophic threat” to family, business, animals and lifestyle, she said. South Gloucestershire Council and Highways England are consulting on two 18a eastern options and a western option at Emersons Green. Report: Page 6
Bikes beat the viaduct blues
The number of cyclists using the Bromley Heath viaduct during the repair works is up by 31 per cent while other traffic is down. South Gloucestershire Council has thanked commuters for changing their habits, resulting in shorter jams than had been feared. Events are also being held to encourage more to use the park and ride at Lyde Green. PAGE 6
