Welcome back and a very warm welcome to those joining the school in September.
We are very excited to begin another year of Emanuel sport and to build on the successes of the previous year, which included many impressive achievements on both regional and national levels. Our sporting facilities have developed further with recent updates to the Sports Hall lighting, followed by the refurbishment of the Sports Hall reception and updating of the Sports Hall Cricket Nets. With the work now largely done, we are all set for another action-packed autumn term of sport.
Sport continues to thrive
Emanuel prides itself on providing high-quality sporting opportunities for girls and boys. As a school, we will often run more teams and more fixtures than many other London day schools, with the vast majority of these fixtures in our Performance Sports taking place at the weekend. We see significant value in facilitating our pupils taking part in team sports, competing alongside their peers, for enjoyment, friendship, well-being, resilience and character development.
Alongside these aims, pupils are encouraged to strive for excellence. The school is ambitious in the development of its sporting facilities (both on-site and at our off-site sports ground) and keen to establish itself as the leading coeducational day school for sport in south-west London.
Mr Lavery, our Director of Sport, will be joined this year by new and existing colleagues with high-level professional experience as coaches and competitors to support our pupils. Further details on our new colleagues can be found on page 3.
Our House sporting competitions will continue to provide a range of co-educational opportunities for pupils to hone their skills, with girls and boys competing alongside one another in our keenly contested House competition. For further details on house sport, pupils should contact their head of house.

Full details of the clothing available from our kit supplier Serious Stuff is available via the link.
For non-urgent orders, parents can take advantage of a free delivery to school option for the start of each term and the second half of the autumn term. Your order will be delivered directly to the school at the start of the term (or autumn second half of term) and can be collected by your child. Orders will need to be placed at least a week in advance of the start of the term or half term.
Please note that any issues with orders or items made this way will still need to be addressed to Serious Stuff and not the school.
Parents can also collect items directly themselves from the Serious Stuff offices in Mortlake.
Sports kit expectations
On days when year groups have their games afternoon, pupils may wear their smart school sports kit to school – this must include tracksuit bottoms for all pupils. All kit must be from Serious Stuff, our kit supplier, and all items must be clearly labelled with pupils’ full names. We thank you for ensuring this is the case. Pupils who do not have the appropriate kit for during the day may be asked to come to school in uniform.
Pupils in Years 6-9 who have PE lessons through the week may also wear their sports kit to school on these days. Pupils will know which days these lessons are scheduled when they receive their new timetable. Pupils in Years 10-13 who study GCSE or A level PE will be provided with changing facilities for any practical lessons. They should wear full school uniform throughout the rest of the day, ensuring they have changed immediately after the lesson.
Pupils who have training or practices before and after school will be provided with changing facilities to use. They should wear full school uniform throughout the day. For practice sessions taking place before school pupils should arrive at school from 7.00am with the sessions scheduled to start from 7.15am.

Selection for sports fixtures
All pupils are expected to make themselves available for sports fixtures during the week and at the weekend. Any requests for absence from a fixture should be emailed to the Director of Sport a minimum of 8 days prior to the date concerned for consideration. Requests made after this period will not be considered except for extenuating emergency circumstances.
As a guide, requests to miss school sport are not a usual part of school life at Emanuel, and as such, should be limited to genuine special occasions, such as family weddings and funerals. Birthday parties and other social events would not typically be considered a suitable reason so miss school sport.
Team sheets will be posted online at least 48 hours prior to any fixtures and pupils are responsible for checking their own SOCS account.
Pupils may travel to home and away fixtures in Emanuel tracksuits but should ensure they have a set of dry and clean kit to attend match teas and to travel home. On certain occasions, pupils may be asked to ensure they wear full school uniform to and from matches.
Transport policy
Travelling to away fixtures (weekdays, Saturdays and pre-season/ holidays)
Where fixtures are scheduled away from the school site at another school, we will normally provide a transportation option. This will usually be by coach or mini-bus. but where it is quicker and more efficient to travel by public transport then this option may be used.
In the case of fixtures that are located close to the school (e.g. Barnes,Wimbledon etc.) then pupils and parents may be asked to travel direct. Early communication will be provided in these instances.
Fixtures and training scheduled at Blagdons (our offsite sports facilities)
Where fixtures or training are scheduled at Blagdons midweek
Our sports offering
then a transportation option will always be provided.
Where fixtures are scheduled at the weekend the school asks pupils and parents to travel directly making use of the transport links ( here). Parking is available (approximately 120) on-site for those who wish to travel by car.
For lower school pupils (Years 6-8) we will provide a transportation option when needed on a Saturday to Blagdons. Those requiring this option should email the sports administrator (sportsadmin@emanuel.org.uk) no later than 10am the Friday morning before the fixture. Transport will typically be via public transport (subject to numbers). Owing to the staggering of fixtures, meet times may be earlier using this option. A return trip will be provided though dependent on timings may not occur immediately at the end of a match.

It is an exciting time for hockey at Emanuel as it continues to establish itself as one of main our performance sports. Our first class training facility at Blagdons provides consistent access to a high-quality surface for our players, while our Director of Hockey, Mr Macdonald, will continue to be supported by an incredibly strong coaching team, including returning GB international Miss Katie Curtis, and the latest additions to our hockey coaching team, Mr Andrew Croft and Mr Max Lowrey.
We run 22 competitive teams, giving all pupils the opportunity to represent the school at a level appropriate to them. We recognise that some pupils will be new to the sport and that is why we ensure that fixtures and competitions are carefully selected to provide the requisite level of challenge.
At the performance end of the sport, we have enjoyed recent success in local and national competitions with our teams regularly qualifying for regional finals and reaching the later stages of independent schools’ competitions. We also have a strong record of developing players through the England hockey talent pathway with players selected for county, talent academy and junior international trials.
