Abu Dhabi: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, had talks on with US President Donald Trump at the White House, dealing with means to boost security partnership and combat terrorism. The leaders reaffirmed the close UAE-US security
partnership and commitment to intensify the fight against extremism. They also discussed responses to Iran's destabilising interference in the affairs of regional states. The two nations enjoy deep-rooted ties, with the US becoming the third country to establish formal diplomatic relations with the UAE in 1971. A year later, the US Embassy was established in Abu Dhabi, while the UAE established its embassy in Washington, DC in 1974. The UAE-US talks come days ahead of Trump's trip to Riyadh where he will meet Saudi and other GCC leaders and heads of states from many Muslim countries, his first foreign visit since entering the White House and a powerful signal to the Islamic world. In his meeting with Trump, Shaikh Mohammad commended the US president for taking the lead to engage and strengthen America's relationship with its key regional partners and for his assertive approach against extremism and aggression. report by Samir Salam
Norway to go Easier on Wealth Fund as Economy Rebounds Norway plans to tap less of its sovereign wealth fund than anticipated now that its economy is recovering, the spring budget bill revealed on Thursday The right-wing government had in its 2017 budget bill in September predicted that it would withdraw 225.6 billion kroner (24.2 billion euros, $26.2 billion, at current exchange rates). But that number has now been shaved down to 220.9 billion. "Unemployment is on its way down and growth is picking up," Finance Minister Siv Jensen said in a statement. The Scandinavian country, the biggest oil producer in western Europe, has suffered from the drop in oil prices since mid-2014. The economic upswing -- sustained by low i nte re st rate s , a we a ke r k ro n e a n d a n expansionary budget policy -- is good news for Norway's Conservative-led coalition government as it gears up for difficult legislative elections in September. Mainland gross domestic product -- excluding the shipping and oil-and-gas sectors -- is expected to

grow by 1.6 percent this year and 2.4 percent next year, after posting meagre growth of 0.8 percent in 2016, the revised budget bill showed. I n a n o t h e r s i g n o f r e c o v e r y, unemployment is expected to shrink to to 4.3 percent in 2017 and 4.1 percent in 2018, down from the 4.7 percent registered last year. The government's proposal would amount to tapping 2.9 percent of the fund's total value as estimated at the beginning of the year. That is lower than the 3.0 percent
maximum proposed in February by the government, a cut from the current 4.0 percent rule. On Thursday, the fund, the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, was worth 8.06 trillion kroner. It is invested in stocks, bond and real estate around the world. The minority government must now negotiate with its centre-right allies to get it s b u d get b ill a d o pted by parliament.

Youngest Norwegian to summit Everest reaches peak The 2013 NSA whistleblower, along with 600 allies, is urging Trump to drop the U.S. case against him, By Curt Mills. News broke on Tuesday that Hurtig, 27, and his team had all successfully climbed to the top of the 8,848 metre-high Himalayan peak, and returned safely to camp 4, the highest camp on the trail mountaineers follow to reach the summit. "We have just received confirmed news that he has safely returned to camp 4. The danger is not over, but it's an important step. Now he can eat and rest. He is still high on the mountain, and the journey is far from over. We will follow progress closely until the team is back at base camp," Hurtig's mountaineering companion Andreas Ebbesen told NRK. The first Norwegians to summit Everst were Bjørn MyrerLund and Odd Eliasson in 1985. Ebbesen said that it was a relief that Hurtig had reached the summit and returned from the so-called death zone altitude above 8,000 metres, where the thinness of the air means that the body cannot survive more than a very limited period of time – but added that accidents can also happen during the descent. Hurtig summited together with Sherpa Yukta Tamu, one of nine Sherpas participating in his expedition, reports NRK. The group chose to ascend the mountain in pairs. "Waiting for a large group can be critical when temperatures drop down to below -30°C (-22°F) and the wind is blowing. It is important to keep moving and so climbing in pairs gives flexibility," said Ebbesen. A record number of climbers hope to conquer Everest this year, reports NRK, with 750 waiting on the south side route
used by Hurtig. "Human bottlenecks can be critical. And there aren't many days during the season when temperature and weather conditions make summit attempts advisable. When the opportunity comes, the pressure can be great," Ebbesen said. Climbers must spend extended periods acclimatising to the high altitudes before making summit attempts. Even then, climbing Everest always carries some danger of death. "As we say in climbing, there is always an objective risk. A snowdrift can collapse without warning. But most risks can be limited to a certain extent. The way I know [Hurtig], he is conservative in regard to risks. Coming back is always the most important goal," Ebbesen told NRK. Hurtig left Norway on April 9th before trekking for nine days between Nepalese capital Kathmandu and Everest base camp to acclimatise.
Worker Protests Come Down by Two-Third in Dubai New kiosk set up in Al Quoz to educate labourers about their rights and answer their legal questions

Worker protests over delayed salaries and accommodation have plummeted by more than two-third in the first quarter of this year as compared to the same period last year, Dubai authorities said on Tuesday. The sharp decline to six worker disputes in the first three months of this year as compared to 19 protests in the first quarter in 2016 was attributed to an intensive campaign to educate employees about their rights and responsibilities. Major-General Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, chairman of the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai (PCLA) and deputy director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, said the effort to listen to workers' concerns has paid off with a serious reduction in workplace conflicts. "The reduction in the protests and labour problems this year came after big efforts by the authorities concerned to educate the workers and solve their problems," Maj-Gen Bin Surour said. The six strikes this year, he said, were due to late salary payment to workers and issues about accommodation by two companies who failed to pay their salaries.

LIVE TV SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE
C
a b l e T V co m p a n i e s ca n b e notoriously slow to adapt their business models to the way people are consuming media nowadays. There's a generation that's used to having content on demand and on the go, with services like Netflix and YouTube. In an effort to squeeze live TV into that model and pit itself against the likes of Sling TV, PlayStation Vue and DirecTV Now, Google has announced YouTube TV, a cable-like subscription service that will let viewers in the US to watch live TV on a range of devices, or save episodes to the cloud to watch later.
YouTube TV will stream live TV from over 40 networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, Fox, The Disney Channel and National Geographic, as well as feeding in news and sport from smaller, regional stations, depending on where a viewer is located. The deal also includes access to the content hidden behind the paywall of YouTube Red, the company's own premium video service, and Showtime and Fox Soccer Plus can be thrown in as well, for an extra fee. It's all viewed through the YouTube TV app for iOS and Android, letting it play on phones, tablets and computers, and it can be streamed to a TV using a Google
Chromecast. Content can be watched live, or tagged to record to a "cloud DVR". YouTube says there's no limit on how much can be stored on the service (although shows will be erased after nine months), and multiple streams can be recorded simultaneously. When you do get around to your backlog, it can be watched on any device through the app. The subscription itself will cost US$35 a month. That's more than three times the price of Netflix, but it's cheaper than what you'd pay for a cable bundle containing that lineup of networks and puts it in a similar ballpark to other live TV streaming services such as Sling TV, PlaySTation Vue and DirecTV Now – although channels on offer and plans
o b v i o u s l y v a r y. A Yo u Tu b e T V subscription can be canceled at any time, and includes up to six separate profiles, with their own cloud DVR library and recommendations. Besides "soon", there's no specific word yet on when the service will launch. YouTube says it will be rolled out in certain parts of the US first, but will expand across the country in time. Those interested can sign up to be notified when it's available in their area. Whether this, or a similar lineup, might eventually come to other countries is hard to tell, given the web of international licenses that would need to be untangled.

K, HDR CINEMA SCREEN DISPLAY
C
inema screens may have your home entertainment setup beat in terms of size, but picture quality is another matter. Displays capable of 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range (HDR) are getting more common in homes, but remain relatively rare in theaters. In a bid to help get more butts in seats, Samsung has unveiled a new cinema-sized LED display that brings both 4K and HDR to the big screen. Measuring 34 ft (10.4 m), Samsung's new Cinema Screen is a direct-lit LED display, which means the LCD panel is illuminated by rows of LEDs behind it. That makes it thicker than a display that's edge-lit (where the LEDs are arranged around the outside edge of the screen), but adds the advantages of higher peak brightness and better contrast – the hallmarks of HDR. Peak brightness hits a high of 146 footlamberts (fL), which Samsung says is 10 times the level a standard cinema projector is capable of. With the backlight evenly spread out, the brightness should be uniform across the screen and not suffer from distortion or interference. On the

contrast front, the company claims that settings like ultra-contrast and low tone grayscale can create a ratio of almost infinity:1 between bright colors and deep blacks. To complement the 4K, HDR visuals, the sound quality is apparently also getting an upgrade. Although there aren't yet any details on just what that might include, Samsung's Audio Lab is working with Harman's Cinema Group to create what it calls an "innovative audio solution.� "As the popularity of advanced at-home entertainment systems and streaming platforms increases, theaters must reposition themselves as a destination for an incomparable viewing experience that consumers simply cannot encounter anywhere else," says Sang Kim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics America. "Our new Cinema Screen technology brings a more powerful and high-quality picture to the big screen, creating an environment where viewers feel as if they are part of every scene." Samsung's Cinema Screen is currently being certified by Digital Cinema
Initiatives (DCI) to make sure it meets the required benchmarks. While no pricing or release information has been announced yet, Samsung is exhibiting the screen in Las Vegas this week to coincide with the CinemaCon 2017 conference.

Pakistan Fashion Week 11 London A fashion celebration marking 70 years of independence. London's historic Lancaster House this weekend witnessed the first Pakistani celebration of fashion in its two hundred year history. The eleventh season of Pakistan Fashion Week London took place over the 20th and 21st May with over forty of Pakistan's leading and emerging designers presenting their latest collections. Umar Saeed, Shameel Ansari, Sana Safinaz, Maria B and Maheen Khan headlined with leading Pakistani models Fouzia Aman and Eshal Fayyaz walking the ramp. This weekends production, by leading event directors Riwayat led by the accomplished creative director Adnan Ansari, was a celebration of the 70th anniversary of Pakistan's independence. O rga n i s e d i n p a r t n e rs h i p w i t h t h e H i g h Commission of Pakistan London, the event was one of a series of events planned by His Excellency Syed Ibne Abbas, Pakistan's Ambassador to the UK. Designer MaazJee paid tribute to founding father of Pakistan Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah with a collection inspired by his clothing, whilst a fusion of east-west designs from Maheen Khan and Shameem Ansari stole the show. It was from Lancaster House that the Pakistani flag was sent to Pakistan's first ever embassy at Lowndes Square in London. How fitting for thousands of Pakistani's to return to Lancaster House some 70 years later to celebrate so much that is good about our country. Over two thousand people registered for the event which saw a catwalk run through the three grand halls of the Royal Palace. Ambassadors from a large number of London based embassies joined the celebration. A nine room exhibition allowed the guests to talk with the designers and buy from their collections. Fashion is one of Pakistan's leading export industries and runs to a multi-billion pound industry and growing. Events profiling the leading names of that industry serve to challenge the wests perceptions of Pakistan and increase the trading links between our two nations. Adnan Ansari, Creative Director at Riwayat said "It was a privilege to work so closely with the High Commission to deliver this hugely successful event. Their commitment to deliver a truly inspiring event matched with Riwayat's expertise and ability to deliver was a powerful force. A big part of today’s society lives in large metropolitan areas and people have lost touch with nature. Many people live in big cities with a great deal of cultural diversity and entertainment. Being out of cell phone reception is not a common occurrence. People quickly learn that things out West are different, and when they travel from Denver over the Rocky Mountains they will find the towns getting smaller and the signs for McDonald’s and Burger King becoming fewer and fewer. Housing developments, which looks the same and are painted in similar colors, are disappearing. Restaurants are now referred to as Saloons, and Grocery Stores are now known as Trading Stations or Trading Posts. Often cell phones will not find service. People will see open land and large herds of elks passing by, while finding the most breathtaking mountain views, canyons, skies, and sunsets around every corner. This is the rugged Colorado I personally love so much and enjoy. It is The “Wild West” people read about in the unspoiled spectacular way the Spanish explorers first saw it and people from Europe, like myself, pictured it. Tucked away from the big metropolitan cities that dominate the East Coast, people will find hidden gems that take them back in time.One of these places is Dove Creek located at the border of Colorado and Utah in the 4-corner region of Southwestern Colorado. The self-proclaimed “Pinto Bean Capital of the World” is a small Southwestern town with stunning mountain views in all directions, surrounded by the San Juan National Forest. There are many dramatic canyons that offer trails and waterways for hiking, hunting, fishing and rafting, and several 14,000 feet majestic Rocky Mountains for skiing, sledding, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing fun.The old Western lifestyle is still cherished in this area and handed down from generation to generation. In the last several years Shed Hunting has become more and more popular here as well as inother areas where hunting plays a big part in the community. People hunt for antlers for fun and profit.

LARRY FOGG TRIP TO PACIFIC NORTHWEST
J
an and I wanted to visit friends on Orcas Island, Washington, in the San Juan Islands and in the vicinity of Seattle, Washington. In addition, we wanted to visit Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia (BC), Canada. We booked a repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver aboard the Holland America ship, MAASDAM. The cruise itinerary included a stop at Victoria, BC. This would be a repeat of the same repositioning cruise that we took in May 2015. We took the Amtrak train from Los Angeles to San Diego and boarded the MAASDAM on Wednesday, 18 May, and settled into our cabin. The ship departed San Diego that evening and began the journey to Vancouver. After open-ocean sailing for the next three days, we arrived at Victoria, BC, during late afternoon on Saturday, 21 May. The ship arrived at Victoria several hours late due to some time lost when we encountered rough seas west of San Francisco. Since the weather at Victoria was overcast with misting rain showers when we arrived, we opted to take a short walk along the Unity Wall and Breakwater adjacent to the cruise ship port. We set sail at midnight for the short voyage from Victoria to Vancouver and disembarked at Canada Place pier on Sunday, 22 May at about 9:30 AM. After checking into our hotel, we took a taxi to visit the University of British Columbia (UBC) Botanical Garden and the UBC Museum of Anthropology. The UBC Botanical Garden is situated in one of Vancouver’s Coastal Rainforests. In addition to viewing the beautiful flower gardens, we also took the Greenheart Canopy Walkway within a portion of the forest. The canopy walkway is a series of suspended walkways and tree platforms high above the forest floor. We took a UBC campus bus from the main botanical garden area to the Nitobe Memorial Garden, which is also part of the UBC Botanical Garden. It is a Traditional Japanese Tea and Stroll Garden that is ranked in the top five Japanese Gardens in North America. It was small and very beautiful, with another party taking wedding photos. We walked from the Nitobe Memorial Garden to the UBC Museum of Anthropology. This museum was magnificent and should not be missed when visiting Vancouver. In addition, this museum had a special exhibition of the Contemporary Art of the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. We visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park located in North Vancouver on Monday, 23 May. I had purchased tickets in advance on the Internet, and we were able to catch a special Capilano Bus near our hotel that took us directly to the park. The park is named after a suspension footbridge

450 feet long and 230 feet high across the Capilano River Canyon. The park has been attracting tourists since 1889. In addition to the suspension bridge, the park has a rainforest with paths and boardwalks, a Cliffwalk, and a Treetops Adventure. The Cliffwalk is a structure attached to the face of the cliff on one side of the canyon for visitors to walk along the face of the cliff, examine the geology of the cliff, and enjoy exhilarating views of the canyon below. Raptors Ridge is a path and boardwalk through the rainforest. The Treetops Adventure is a system of tree-friendly platforms and suspension bridges that allow pedestrians to walk the treetop canopy. After we returned to our hotel, we decided to use the Downtown Vancouver Official Walking Map to walk to the Chinatown district and visit the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The map was a godsend and easy to follow, but the museum was closed when we arrived. We continued walking to the Gastown district on our way back to the hotel. The following day, we continued walking in Vancouver. During our walk we visited the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art, a private museum displaying many of the works of Bill Reid. It was a

very impressive museum and we were glad we stopped to have a look inside. We also visited the Christ Church Cathedral, Harbour Green Park, the Digital Orca sculpture, the Vancouver Convention Centre, the Steam Clock, the Gassy Jack Statue, the Chinatown Milenniun Gate, and finally the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden is the first of its kind built outside of China. Fifty-three master craftsmen came from China with 950 crates of material and constructed the Garden using traditional methods – no glue, screws, or power tools were used. It is modeled after the highest standards of private classical gardens in the city of Suzhou during the Ming Dynasty (13681644). Construction began in March 1985 and cost 5.3 million dollars. It was officially opened in 1986. Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Park is a public park adjacent to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Garden. On Wednesday, 25 May, we took the BC Ferries Connector service from Vancouver to Victoria, which is located on Vancouver Island. I had advance purchased tickets and we were picked up at our hotel by a shuttle bus that transferred us to a large bus that drove us to the ferry. The bus boarded the ferry and then delivered us to downtown Victoria. It was the perfect way to travel from
Vancouver to Victoria and exceeded all of our expectations. Upon arrival at Victoria, we walked to our hotel and waited to meet up with Tom and Leslie, our friends from Orcas Island. They had taken the ferry from Orcas Island to Victoria to meet up with us. That evening, we ate dinner at the Fish Hook Restaurant where Leslie had made reservations weeks in advance. Leslie said that it was rated the best restaurant in Victoria. It was casual, very small, the food was superb, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. After dinner, we all walked around old town Victoria and along the Inner Harbour. The Legislature Building was illuminated with lights very similar to the way the Palace at Mysore, India, is illuminated after dark – very beautiful indeed! The following morning, Tom and Leslie drove us to the worldfamous Butchart Gardens. It was a beautiful sunny day with perfect weather to stroll leisurely through the magnificent gardens. There were so many beautiful landscapes that included the Sunken Garden, Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Star Pond, Italian Garden, Piazza, and Mediterranean Garden. Butchart Gardens covers more than 55 acres of a 130 acre estate and has attracted visitors since

the 1920s. We were in awe and amazement throughout our visit. We also visited the Victoria Butterfly Gardens, which is located near the Butchart Gardens. It was also an amazing place to visit with at least twenty-five different species of butterflies, many rainforest plants, parrots, flamingos, turtles, and a large Iguana lizard. The butterflies would land on the visitors and people needed to check to make sure that they weren’t wearing any butterflies when they exited the enclosure. We returned to downtown Victoria and ate a late afternoon lunch at a classic pub before continuing to walk around the old town area and inner harbor that afternoon. During our walks, we stopped to admire the collection of totem poles on the grounds of the Royal BC Museum. On Friday, 27 May, we drove to the ferry terminal at Sydney, BC, where we cleared US Customs and boarded the ferry to San Juan Island. After disembarking the ferry, we drove to the San Juan Island Sculpture Park where we strolled among acres of interesting sculptures, all of which were for sale. We returned to the ferry queue and ate lunch at a quaint local pub while waiting for the time to board the ferry to Orcas Island. It was a short ferry ride to Orcas Island and we drove home with Tom and Leslie where we visited until Tuesday, 31 May. I continued daily hikes during our stay on Orcas Island and Leslie prepared some wonderful meals that we thoroughly enjoyed. On Tuesday, 31 May, Tom and Leslie drove us to the Orcas Island Ferry Terminal. En route to the terminal, we stopped at the two barns painted by the high school senior class with each painting over the work of the prior years’ class. The old barn was last painted by the Class of 2014, and the new barn was painted by the Class of 2016. The old barn continues to be on the verge of collapse. We boarded the ferry to Anacortes, Washington, and then caught the BelAir Airporter Shuttle bus to the SEA/TAC International Airport. Our friends, John and Diane, from Federal Way, Washington, met us at the airport. We spent the next five days visiting with them and their son, David, and his wife, Doreen, who live in Tacoma, Washington. On Wednesday, 1 June, John and Diane drove us to the Flying Heritage Collection at Paine Field near Everett, WA. This is the collection established by Paul Allen in the 1990s and houses a unique assemblage of rare aircraft and vehicles from the World War II era. Not only does each artifact appear exactly as it did in combat, most are fully functional. These vintage planes also take to the skies on scheduled Fly Days. On Thursday, we visited the Soos Creek Botanical Garden in Auburn, WA. It occupies 22 acres of beautifully designed gardens and woodland. We strolled through the gardens and woodland admiring the landscaping and blooming flowers that were in season.

There is no charge to visit the garden and different plants bloom at different months during the year. John and Diane plan to return during different times of the year. David and Doreen drove all of us to Mt. Rainier National Park on Friday, 3 June. We drove southbound on Route 410 to the park and entered at the White River Entrance en route to the Sunrise Visitor Center at 6,400 feet elevation. Since it was still early in the season for visiting the park, the road was only open to the White River Campground at an elevation of 4,400 ft. We backtracked and continued on Route 410 where we transitioned to Route 123 and entered the park at the Stevens Canyon Entrance. We continued on the Stevens Canyon Road to Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center at an elevation of 5,400 feet. We continued on along the Nisqually River until we exited the park at the Nisqually Entrance where the road continued westward as Route 706. We stopped in Elbe, WA, at the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad Depot where we ate dinner before returning to Federal Way. It was another beautiful sunny day and we saw some spectacular views of Mt. Rainier, which, at an elevation of 14,410 feet, dominates the surrounding landscapes. On Saturday, 4 June, we went to the 10th Annual Pacific Northwest Evergreen Eggfest. It is an event sponsored by the manufacturers and distributors of the Big Green Egg barbeques. People make advance reservations to attend and are able to sample different barbeque recipes cooked on many Big Green Egg demonstration barbeques. Beverages are provided as part of the admission and people also sign up in advance to purchase the demonstration Big Green Eggs. There were literally more than 100 different barbeque foods being offered for people to sample. In addition, there was a live band as well as recorded music. Everyone in attendance appeared to have a good time and nobody left hungry. On Sunday, David and Doreen drove us all to Olympia, WA, where we took a guided tour of the Washington State Capital. It was completed in 1928 and has one of the tallest masonry domes in the world, rising 287 feet high. It also has one of the world’s largest collections of chandeliers and decorative lighting fixtures made by the famous Tiffany Studios of New York. We walked past the Executive Mansion, which is the official home of the Governor, en route to the Olympia Visitor Information Center where we obtained a walking map of Olympia. We decided to continue walking in Olympia and visited the Old Capital Building that was built in 1862 and now houses some Government offices. It is across the street from Sylvester Park, which was the location where the Oregon Trail ended. Our next stop was at Percival Landing, where we toured the classic tugboat SAND MAN. It was commissioned in 1908 and built by the Crawford & Reid shipyard in Old Town Tacoma. We continued walking northbound on the Boardwalk along the Deschutes Waterway toward the Port of Olympia. We observed some interesting sculptures as we walked along the boardwalk. About halfway to the port, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant overlooking the waterway. We flew home to Los Angeles on Monday, 6 June, and are looking forward to returning to the Pacific Northwest on future trips.

SUMMER 2017 MAKEUP TRENDS
T
he summer 2017 makeup trends are here, and all of you makeupphobes can let out a sigh of relief. The defining makeup style for this upcoming season is minimal and effortless. This year’s runway was just as starkly marked by absence, as it was by presence. Gone were the thick eyebrows and graphic lips of yesteryear. Heavy cream contour was nowhere in sight. The fashion makeup trends for 2017 will have makeup styles that are quick and effortless, and naturally beautiful. The 2017 beauty trends aren’t just about natural – many of them are quite bold, and feature lots of color. The difference is
that shadows and lipsticks were applied quickly – sharp edges and fleeky wings were given nearly zero consideration. Additionally, most of the bold colors and funky shapes were kept to minimal areas, while the rest of the face was done in the winning style of the season: extremely natural. This is the season for the lazy girls, and the brave women, those who act quickly and spontaneously, those who decide to go all out with neon eye shadows two minutes before leaving the house. Summer 2017 is the season of fearlessly flawful makeup, and the guts to bare it all.
NO MAKEUP MAKEUP
Sometimes, achieving that perfect no makeup makeup look takes just as long as that heavy makeup for a night out. Of all the gorgeous beauty looks we saw this year, the totally natural makeup look reigned supreme. This is more than just one of the 2017 makeup trends – this is a forever beauty trend.
At Michael Kors, makeup artist Dick Page also stuck to the no makeup makeup look with most models, occasionally even skipping steps like lipstick and blush, making this beauty look very nude in color. Lanvin’s show was a perfect iteration of this makeup style, with the models wearing a full face of undetectable makeup. Their contour was perfectly blended, and their eyelashes never clumped together thanks to too much mascara. It was perfect execution of light handed application and blending that is always sure to flatter.

SOFT, WARM CONTOUR

At Tibi the contour was very yellowbased, and likely one of the strongest on any of the runways. This matte color was applied only below the cheekbones, and only blended minimally. In some cases, the result was almost absurdly strong and very high fashion. Consider playing around with a yellow-brown bronzer, because it is perfect for summer, just please keep it a bit more subtle. At Guy Laroche we saw a similar warm contour, paired with peachy blush. At Bottega Veneta we saw a neutral taupe contour that was well blended – this is a much more natural take on contour that still sculpts the faces of those of us not endowed with model-esque features, but is not obvious or overdone. Here’s to hoping this style of face sculpting overtakes the Instagram contour trend, because it’s a faster application, and it looks much better in real life. We also saw some artists utilizing soft contour techniques at Topshop Unique, and Giorgio Armani.
While over most of the runway, minimal base makeup trends for summer 2017 reigned supreme, with highlight much more popular than contour, a few makeup artists weren’t willing to give it up. However, instead of a cool or reddish contour, the preference for yellow-based bronzers and neutral taupes was clear.
FROSTED
EYESHADOWS
At Jill Stuart, we saw contrasting frosted shades of orangey-red and jewel toned indigo on the beautiful models’ lids. At Armani, the look was very soft and wearable, with sapphire blue eyeliner smudged thickly onto the models’ upper lash lines.
Francois Nars designed the makeup look for the Marc Jacobs show this year, giving all the models a beautiful garnet smokey eye that would especially suit those with green eyes.
At Anna Sui we saw a similar look, but with a frosty shade of burgundy that from a distance actually looked copper. It was a very feminine take on the usually edgier smokey eye.
Many of the summer 2017 makeup trends are all about texture rather than color, and this season one of the predominant eyeshadow finishes is the frosty jewel tone. Hopefully, this officially signals the death of the matte eye, and brings back much n e e d e d s h i n e , l u x u r y, a n d radiance. Interject just a touch of the jewel studded style into your makeup with a garnet or sapphire blue eyeliner, or go for a classic look with a jewel toned eyeshadow swept over the lid, and a darker matte shade in the crease.

SUBTLE SMOKEY EYE MAKEUP
A smokey eye is a true classic, and if all we were seeing this season was traditional smokey eyes, maybe it wouldn’t count as one of the summer 2017 makeup trends. However, the smokey eyes of this upcoming season are light, subtle, and mostly kept around the lash line – the kind of smokey eye hastily drawn on in the car, to bring a day look to night when heading to the party straight from the office.
On the runways of Carolina Herrera and Elie Saab, the smoked out effect was kept strictly to the wing – black eyeliner was applied with a pencil, and then makeup artists used a smudge brush and a touch of black eyeshadow to create a simple smokey effect. To keep the eyes big and open for Elie Saab, Tom Pecheux kept the liner on the lower lash line strictly on the outside half of the eye. For Balmain, the smokey effect was also reserved for the eyeliner, which went all around the eyes, both in the waterline and outside it. Some models’ eyes were kept round, while others had smokey wings, similar to the eye look at Carolina Herrera. We also saw the subtle smoked eyeliner look on the Christopher Kane, Rag & Bone runway.
GLOSSY EYES At Marchesa and Marni we saw just a hint of glossy shine applied to the models’ lids. In Marni’s case, this went very well with the models’ dewy faces, while at Marchesa the eyes contrasted with fairly matte skin. The glossy eyes are versatile, no matter whether you prefer a soft or edgy style.

At Nina Ricci the glossy eyeshadow trend was quite colorful, with the models’ eyes painted in shades of teal, peach, and purple. At Missoni, the models’ eyes were kept warm and wet, with a glossy orange eyeshadow look that blended into some shimmer in the crease.
A similar choice was made at Stella Jean with some of the models, while others sported a nude glossy eye makeup look.
Will glossy eyes ever fall out of favor with the high fashion makeup artist crowd? Alas, this is going to be one of the summer 2017 makeup trends, as well. It’s no surprise, since gloss is easy to apply, and it looks positively mesmerizing and fresh. Only drawback? It is very difficult to keep it from creasing throughout the day.

NO MASCARA FOR THE PALE GIRLS
Those with sensitive eyes, rejoice! As part of the minimalist set of summer 2017 makeup trends, a lot of makeup artists were skipping mascara, especially on models with naturally pale eyelashes.
At Acne Studios and Vera Wang, the effect was magical and elven, especially on the blonde and redhaired models. There was also no mascara to be seen on the models at Gucci, where the effect was even more striking because many of their eyebrows had been bleached. At Vivienne Westwood this decision especially stood out, because many of the pale models received messy looking eyeliner or black eyeshadow applications, which lead to a look that would likely only work on the runway. We also saw skipped mascara at t h e P ro e n za S c h o u l e r a n d Alexander Wang fashion shows.
RED LIPS
The most important red lip look of the season was crafted by makeup superstar Pat McGrath for Dolce & Gabbana, where the red lips had a distinctly cool undertone, and were paired with a tiny sweep of black liquid liner on the upper lash line for a romantic effect. While most models for Giambattista Valli and Simone Rocha wore a makeup look that was dewy and natural, a few models stood out with berry red lips that had just the slightest bit of a sheen. At Jason Wu we had a similar makeup situation happening, but makeup artist Yadim broke the cool-tone mold by utilizing an orangey red lipstick color instead. Makeup artist Lynsey Alexander for Mary Katrantzou wouldn’t choose, so models walked the runway with loud matte lips in reddish orange, magenta, and apple red.
Red lips are a classic, but unlike previous years’ big matte red lips, the red lip makeup trends of 2017 are a little more understated, wearable, and easier to achieve. Also of note is the fact that we’re not seeing as much matte red lips – the satin lipstick finish is back in vogue, along with a ton of sheen everywhere else on the face! The look at Carolina Herrera was already mentioned for subtle smokey eyes, but there were also impressively glossy red pouts daringly paired with the darker eye look. Even more daring was the red lip at Vanessa Seward, since the makeup artists there also jumped on the blue eyeshadow trend.

GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH INGREDIENTS: Roasted Tomatoes Garlic cloves, minced Olive oil Salt Freshly ground black pepper For the sandwhiches Cheddar cheese, grated Butter, room temperature Fresh basil leaves Bread slices
9 oz (250g) cherry tomatoes 2 1 tbsp (15ml) 1/2 tsp (2g) to taste For the sandwhiches 1 1/2 cup (150g) Butter, room temperature 3 to 4 8
METHOD : Prepare roasted tomatoes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a medium bowl, toss together tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper. Place tomatoes to a baking sheet and spread into an even layer. Bake for 25-30 minutes until tomatoes are roasted. Prepare the sandwiches. Heat a nonstick pan over medium high heat. Spread butter on the sides of the bread. With butter side down, top with cheddar cheese, roasted tomato and basil leaves. Top with the other slice of bread, butter side up. Place the sandwich on the pan and cook until the bottom is golden brown, for about 3 minutes. Flip, press with a spatula and cook the other side until crispy, golden brown and cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
CHICKEN VEGI CHEESE SAMOSAS INGREDIENTS: Carrot shredded Cabbage shredded Chicken boiled and shredded Capsicum shredded Salt Red chili Coriander Turmeric Chaat masala Ground spice Ginger garlic paste Oil Samosa Patti Egg Cheese Water
1 cup 1 cup 1 cup ½ cup ½ tbsp. (to taste) 1 tsp. 1 ½ tsp. ¼ tsp. ½ tsp. ½ tsp. 1 tsp. for frying 12-15 for gluing cut in cubes As per required
METHOD : Boil chicken and shred it. Shred all vegetables separately. In a pan heat oil, add garlic and sauté then add chicken and mix well. Now add vegetables first carrots than capsicum. Add a little bit of water and cover. Let it cook for 1-2 minute. Add cabbage and all spices and sauté. Mix well. Remove and let the mixture cool. Take samosa patti, fold it and fill with masala. Add cheese cube along with the chicken and vegetable mixture then glue the patti with the help of egg. Repeat for all samosas. Heat oil in a wok. Fry samosa until golden brown. Serve with Knorr Tomato Ketchup and Knorr Chili Garlic Sauce.

METHOD : Place the peach slices in the bowl of a food processor or blender. Add lemon juice, sugar, water and ice cubes. Puree until smooth. Add ice to serving glasses and fill each glass with peach juice. Garnish with peach slice and mint leaves.
MELON MOJITO INGREDIENTS: Water or sparkling water Melon, peeled and seeded Sugar Limes , juiced Pomegranate seeds Fresh mint leaves Ice cubes
4 cups (1 quart) 5 slices 1/4 cup 4 4 tbsp 5 as required
METHOD : Cut 4 melon slices in 1 inch pieces. Puree melon in a food processor until smooth. You need about 1 cup of melon puree. Cut 1 slice in small pieces for serving. Place lime juice and sugar into a bowl and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add fresh mint leaves and gently mash with a muddler. Combine melon puree with lime mixture and water in a pitcher. When serving fill your glasses halfway with ice cubes. Add pomegranate seeds, small melon pieces, mint leaves and melon lemonade.
BAKED PARMESAN CHICKEN BITES INGREDIENTS: Chicken breast Bread crumbs Parmesan, grated Smoked paprika Garlic powder Dried parsley Vegetable oil All purpose flour Eggs Salt and freshly ground black pepper

METHOD : Preheat oven to 400F (200C). Line 1 or 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large bowl combine panko breadcrumbs with Parmesan cheese, paprika, garlic powder, dried parsley, salt and pepper. Set aside until ready to use. Cut chicken breast in about 1 ½ inch (4cm) bite size pieces. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Into a large bowl add flour and chicken pieces. Use a spoon to toss the chicken into the flour until all pieces are coated. Transfer the chicken to another clean bowl and discard the excess flour. Beat eggs with oil and pour over the chicken and toss to coat. Roll each piece of chicken in the panko Parmesan mixture. Transfer the pieces to the prepared pans. Bake for about 25 minutes until golden brown. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
