Chinese New Year at Arabian Ranches

Chinese New Year celebrations swept the community on 1 February, as Arabian Ranches was draped in red and gold décor.

Umbrella, fan, ribbon and freestyle dance performances had residents of all ages enthralled.

The traditional Chinese Dragon Dancers paraded through venue with their gliding beast, serving up a true feast for the eyes!

The Chinese wishing tree offered young residents the perfect opportunity to pen and hang their dearest wishes.

Petanque is here to ‘boule’ you over!

Having spread from the streets of Provence to the rest of France and Europe, the charming game of Petanque is now all set to make its mark in Arabian Ranches.

In a nutshell:

Players stand in circular hoops and try to toss their boules (small metallic balls) as close as possible to the ‘jack’ – a smaller wooden ball. Players are allowed to knock off opponents’ boules in the process. The team with the boule closest to the jack wins.

Number of players: Teams can comprise one to three players on each side.

Fun fact: The game’s name evolved from the French phrase for ‘feet planted’. Why? Earlier versions of the game allowed players to run before tossing the boule. However, after former player Jules Lenior suffered a condition that barely allowed him to stand, a good friend Ernest Pitiot introduced a variant in which players stood while tossing the boule - the game we know today!

The new amenity is being installed next to the Saheel open park, and will be open to residents on a first come, first served basis.

Rahim Sajan from Polo Homes wins the Community Garden Challenge!

The Community Garden Challenge was a neighbourhood sensation, with over 150 green-thumbed residents from our villa communities flooding us with picturesque entries.

Taking the top honour of the Grand AED 20,000 Prize was Rahim Sajan from Polo Homes in Arabian Ranches for his magnificent garden which scored points for the landscaping, design, creativity, edible patch and most importantly – his devotion and passion to involve the family in creating and building the green space.

From native palm trees, creepers to a vegetable patch, this winning garden spanned the entrance, alleys, backyard, swimming pool and the walls of the home.

The winner on his victorious garden ‘We have built an oasis that we hope to develop into a mature and sustainable garden space to enjoy for years to come. Soil is moved to provide nutrition supply to the remaining planting areas, designed to maximise colour and beauty and to preserve water and use natural forms of plant rotation’, said Rahim.

Kai Yang (Mira 4, Reem) won Best Edible Garden.

Tazeen Zaidi (Rosa, Arabian Ranches II) won Best Landscaped Garden.

WHAT’S NEW IN ARABIAN RANCHES

New LED focus lights at Village Green are here to make those night matches a comfortable game night.

Don’t forget to wind up before 10pm to avoid disturbance for nearby residents.

The kids’ play area at Al Reem 3 just got even more exciting with a climbing rope frame, kids’ swing, rubberized flooring and spring rockers!

Arabian Ranches Education & Hobbies Fair

The Education & Hobbies Fair on 22 February had plenty of fun games and activities in store.

Young chefs busied themselves at the cupcake, biscuit and cakepop decorating workshops.

Zumba, Yoga, Karate and Kung fu performances had the juniors captivated.

There was something for kids of all ages, as they learned new skills and had a blast.

Go Easy on the AC

Your home is so cool at 24 degrees!

We need to set the thermostat at 20 to get it this cold. How is that possible?

Dad cleans the AC vents monthly for maximum airflow. That lets the AC operate more efficiently!

My dad doesn’t do that, I wish he did.

Mom also leaves cooking for cooler times of the day, so there’s isn’t too much heat in the house.

Well here’s something you can’t blame on your mom or dad – I never see you shut the windows when you turn on the AC! Guilty as accused.

That’s a swell idea. I should tell my mom about that.
