Hello! My name is Emily, I am a junior currently studying at University of Maryland under the Bachelors of Science track in Architecture. I’m a transfer student from Montgomery College where I learned a variety of programs such as Autocad, Revit, Rhino and Archicad. I love drawing, photography and design. Being able to stretch the limits of my imagination in studio and in art is one of my most favorite things in architecture.

01MENDELBROT MUSIC MUSEUM

ARCH 401/FALL 2024/PROF. ABRAMS

Mandelbrot Music Museum – a celebration of the infinitely repeating patterns in nature and a visual representation of the possibilities of music. Inspired by the architecture of Changi Airport in Singapore and the simplicity of a fractal tree, this museum incorporates both unique characteristics to stand apart from the historic district in which it is located. The uniquely shaped botanical garden, situated at the junction of 14th and Swann Streets in Washington, D.C., captures the attention of both tourists and locals. Much like how Changi Airport became a tourist attraction through its innovative design, this music museum serves as the city’s crown jewel. With spaces designed for musicians and visitors alike, this multi-purpose museum seeks to educate and inspire all who enter.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

Starting with the concept word “fracture” , the massing of the building was created. Following the language, the exterior botanical garden was developed in various ways.. After taking a step back to the inspiration, Changi airport; fracture became fractal. Thus, a fractal tree was physically modeled and explored.

PERSPECTIVE SECTION

As you walk through the entrance, you are greeted with the sound of water falling into a gently moving stream running under your feet. Flora envelopes you as you circulate through the weathersafe exhibitions. Two large, curved, sweeping rainwater collection towers support the structure of the botanical garden and collect the greywater that cycles through the waterfall and stream. The path takes you around the ground floor, transitioning from a garden space to an exhibition space. Following the circulation leads you around the large ceremonial staircase, and eventually up towards a large performance venue with adjacent classrooms.

LYMPHA

ARCH 401/FALL 2024/PROF. ABRAMS

Set in the bustling streets of Georgetown D.C., Lympha offers excellent daylighting as well as plentiful green space, and is the ultimate break from a busy stressful life. This urban spa offers a cafe, relaxation rooms, and pools for visitors. Lympha is the ancient Roman goddess of the function of freshwater, inspiring the central atrium to be shaped like a puddle of water, cutting through all floors and allowing natural light to refract through the glass pool onto the first floor.

03ARTIST HOME

This project serves as a design for a living and exhibition space inspired by a selected artist - Louise Nevelson. Throughout the extensive design process, her work was dissected and distilled into two main themes, organized chaos and layered depth. These two themes would be the guiding principals in the creation of the parti. The limited design constraints for this project required extensive spacial planning.

04MENIL PAVILION

ARCH 200/PROF. NEWCOMER/SPRING 2024

This is a design a pavilion for Menil Park located in Houston, Texas. Its intricate canopy provides unique shade and shadows for visitors. Modeled using Rhino and Grasshopper. Doubling as a Photoshop exercise, this project encouraged unique design and presentation skills.

05 DC RAILWAY

ARCH 448B/PROF. KEN FILLER/WINTER 2025

Heavily inspired by artist and architect James Corner’s ‘Rail Networks;’ D.C. Railway is a study on graphical composition and unique ways of presenting site analysis. Analytical diagrams on composition, layers, and depth were traced on Corner’s artwork. Next, newspaper clippings and miscellaneous old text were compiled on top of an inverted geographical map. Each clipping offered a glimpse into Washington, D.C.’s rich history. Red lines traced over the metro railway system converging around the Metro Center stop are also included; creating a web-like visual of the ways history is connected with the built environment.

06FACADE SHADE AND SHADOW

ARCH 104/PROF. TALAAT/FALL 2023

A design exploration on the placement of specific objects along a facade creating unique shadows. Intended to be built with CMU construction, the facade is fire resistant rated. Steel tubes run along the facade thereby creating interesting textures.

07FUSION

ARCH 448B/PROF. KEN FILLER/WINTER 2025

An artistic mash between two pieces of art, Fusion is the result of studying and combining two distinctly different art pieces into one original piece. Taking the large horizontal blocks that resembles “Modulo’s” scale, infusing it with the paper-like geometric edges as well as the color palette of “Headstart”, creates a unqiue, distinct piece.
