DE LA JEUNESSE À LA MATURITÉ : PARCOURS AU FIL DES CONCERTOS PAR ÉLISE PETIT Alors qu’il vient de démissionner de son poste de Konzertmeister au service de l’archevêque de Salzbourg Colloredo, le jeune Mozart s’installe à Vienne et connaît enfin la vie de compositeur indépendant. La capitale de l’Empire des Habsbourg jouit d’une vie musicale de très haute qualité. La liberté artistique qui y règne ainsi que le dynamisme du secteur de l’édition musicale poussent de nombreux compositeurs à venir y faire jouer leurs œuvres à l’occasion de concerts publics. Mozart lui-même en organise plusieurs entre Vienne et Prague. Durant cette période de composition intense, il écrira pas moins de dix-sept concertos. Désormais tributaire du succès de ses œuvres pour assurer sa subsistance, il compose à la fois pour un public amateur – principalement des œuvres concertantes – et pour des musiciens avertis des pièces plus difficiles d’accès, notamment sa musique de chambre.

C’est pour ses concerts à souscription qu’il compose le Concerto n° 13 pour piano et orchestre, dont il tient lui-même la partie soliste à l’occasion de la création en mars 1783.

Dès le premier mouvement, le caractère martial et joyeux donné par les trompettes et les timbales ravit l’oreille du grand public, tandis que les passages en écriture contrapuntique s’adressent aux connaisseurs, faisant référence aux fugues de Jean-Sébastien Bach que Mozart avait découvertes depuis peu. Comme le veut la tradition, le mouvement central est plus lent et méditatif, d’où l’absence notable des trompettes et des timbales. Cette tendre romance laisse à entendre un long dialogue entre le piano et le hautbois accompagné par les cordes et ponctué par les cors. Le mouvement final en rondo renoue avec la tonalité du début mais laisse rapidement place à un surprenant passage dans le ton de do mineur, prévu initialement pour le mouvement central. Mozart livre ici des pages où émotion et 8

virtuosité alternent en parfaite harmonie, ménageant un ultime effet de surprise : une fin suspensive inattendue dans une nuance pianissimo. La virtuosité de l’ensemble, le jeu sur les contrastes de nuance et de couleur, mais aussi les nombreux effets de surprise qui parcourent l’œuvre mettent en avant la dextérité du pianiste tout autant que la sensibilité de son jeu.

Composé alors que Mozart n’a que dix-sept ans, le Concerto n° 5 peut être considéré comme une œuvre de jeunesse qui annonce ses plus brillantes compositions à venir.

Mozart est alors au service du nouvel archevêque de Salzbourg Colloredo qui, bien qu’il l’ait nommé Konzertmeister avec un salaire très honorable, le traite en serviteur. Durant cette période ressentie comme une servitude humiliante, Mozart compose nombre de pièces instrumentales très marquées par le style galant prédominant : caractère joyeux et insouciant, traits de virtuosité, ornements en constituent les principales caractéristiques.

D’autres influences sont perceptibles dans cette œuvre relativement courte : la construction formelle et l’utilisation de l’orchestre comme une masse instrumentale lui ont été enseignées par Jean-Chrétien Bach rencontré à Londres en 1764 ; le procédé du trémolo (notes rapides répétées aux cordes) et du crescendo orchestral trahissent l’influence de l’École de Mannheim représentée notamment par Christian Cannabich dont la musique avait fait forte impression sur le jeune Mozart à l’occasion de son séjour parisien de 1763. Enfin, le travail mélodique est révélateur de la place qu’occupera l’opéra italien tout au long de sa vie. La présence de trompettes et de timbales dans ce concerto est plutôt inhabituelle pour Mozart, qui ne les réutilisera pas avant le Concerto n° 13. Le premier mouvement, qui suit la forme-sonate traditionnelle, fait dialoguer le piano et l’orchestre sans virtuosité brillante, malgré la cadence finale. Le ton est joyeux et insouciant et les effets de surprise, notamment dans les changements soudains de nuances, laissent transparaître le caractère facétieux du compositeur. Le mouvement central déroule une mélodie élégante telle une sérénade, développée alternativement par l’orchestre et le piano. Le rondo final voit le retour brillant des trompettes et des timbales et met en valeur les qualités pianistiques du soliste.

Non-content de ce troisième mouvement, Mozart en établira une nouvelle version en 1782, qu’il exécutera dès lors à l’occasion de ses concerts viennois. Œuvre de maturité, le Concerto n° 25 est composé par Mozart alors au faîte de sa gloire, l’année même où sa collaboration avec le librettiste Lorenzo da Ponte donne naissance aux Noces de Figaro et à Don Giovanni. Achevé et créé à Vienne, le concerto est néanmoins destiné au public praguois qui a fait un accueil triomphal à ses dernières œuvres, d’où la virtuosité omniprésente. L’ouverture du long premier mouvement n’est pas sans rappeler celle de sa dernière symphonie, Jupiter, ainsi que ses propres ouvertures d’opéras.

Mozart y déroule ensuite plusieurs thèmes, dont un qui semble préfigurer La Marseillaise.

Le traitement des instruments, similaire à celui qu’il fait dans sa musique de chambre, montre l’évolution du compositeur et son intérêt pour les timbres de chaque pupitre. En témoigne la longue conversation entre le hautbois, la flûte traversière, le basson et le cor au début du deuxième mouvement, qui se poursuit après l’entrée du piano. Des audaces harmoniques surprenantes, probablement destinées à surprendre les connaisseurs de l’époque, se font également entendre subrepticement. Le dernier mouvement, un rondo triomphal, est inspiré d’une Gavotte issue de son Idoménée composé quelques années auparavant. Une fois encore, Mozart y ménage les effets de surprise, en insérant notamment un couplet introduit par une tonalité mineure, chargé de l’émotion et du tourment qui irrigueront ses œuvres de maturité et particulièrement son Don Giovanni. Le passage dialogué entre le hautbois et la flûte figure parmi les plus belles pages de la musique mozartienne.

OLIVIER CAVÉ Après avoir étudié avec Nelson Goerner, Maria Tipo et Aldo Ciccolini, Olivier Cavé donne son premier concert avec la Camerata Lysy sous la direction de Yehudi Menuhin en septembre 1991. Sa carrière prend un tournant en septembre 2008, avec la sortie d’un premier enregistrement pour Aeon (Outhere Music), qui présente des sonates de Domenico Scarlatti. Les critiques à travers l’Europe louent le pianiste suisse aux racines napolitaines pour son « retour à la source ». Consacré à Muzio Clementi, le deuxième enregistrement de Cavé est encore plus frappant que le premier. Sorti à l’automne 2010, le CD reçoit cinq diapasons de la revue du même titre, quatre étoiles de Classica et la plus haute distinction de la revue japonaise Geijutsu Records. Ce triomphe lui vaut des invitations à se produire dans de prestigieuses salles du monde entier. Sa tournée le long de la côte est des ÉtatsUnis est un succès, avant ses débuts avec le San Francisco Symphony Orchestra en février 2012, sous la direction de Rinaldo Alessandrini, où le pianiste est salué comme « un modèle de raffinement devant le clavier ». En août 2012, Olivier Cavé fait des débuts remarqués au Festival international de piano de La Roque d’Anthéron. Son troisième disque paraît chez Aeon en mai 2013, consacré à la musique de Johann Sebastian Bach et intitulé Concerti, Capriccio e Aria – Nel gusto italiano, programme qu’il a donné au Teatro La Fenice de Venise.

Il fait une deuxième apparition au festival de La Roque d’Anthéron au cours de l’été 2013, saluée comme « une révélation de la trente-troisième édition ». En mars 2014, un compte rendu élogieux dans le New York Times marque les débuts du pianiste à la Frick Collection de New York. Le quatrième album d’Olivier Cavé, intitulé Chiaro e scuro, consacré à la musique de Joseph Haydn et de Domenico Scarlatti, a paru chez Aeon en 2015. L’enregistrement, qui figurait en tête de la liste 2015 des meilleurs enregistrements classiques de Forbes, a remporté un succès unanime auprès de la critique comme du public.

RINALDO ALESSANDRINI Outre ses activités de fondateur-directeur du Concerto Italiano, Rinaldo Alessandrini est un récitaliste renommé au clavecin, au piano-forte et à l’orgue, et il est considéré dans le monde entier comme l’un des interprètes qui font autorité dans Monteverdi et le répertoire baroque.

Sa connaissance et son amour profonds du répertoire italien se reflètent naturellement dans des programmes où il cherche à reproduire les éléments expressifs et cantabile essentiels, mais souvent insaisissables, si indispensables à la musique italienne des XVIIème et XVIIIème siècles. Il s’est produit au Japon, au Canada, aux États-Unis et à travers l’Europe, et est de plus en plus sollicité par les grands orchestres internationaux. Ses engagements récents comme chef lyrique comprennent une intégrale des opéras de Monteverdi à Milan (La Scala) et à l’Opéra Garnier à Paris.

Il a enregistré (pour Naïve, Astrée, Arcana, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi) non seulement de la musique italienne, mais aussi Bach et ses contemporains. Il s’est vu attribuer les plus grandes distinctions par la critique, dont cinq Gramophone Awards, deux Grands Prix du disque, trois Deutsche Schallplattenpreise, le Prix Caecilia, le Premio Cini et quatre Midem Awards à Cannes. FROM YOUTH TO MATURITY: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE CONCERTOS BY ÉLISE PETIT Having resigned from his position as Konzertmeister in the service of Archbishop Colloredo of Salzburg, the young Mozart moved to Vienna, where at last he could experience life as an independent composer. The Hapsburg Empire’s capital city enjoyed a musical life of extremely high standard. The artistic freedom that reigned there, together with its dynamic music publishing industry, attracted many composers to perform their works at its public concerts – and Mozart organized several concerts of his own in both Vienna and Prague.

During this period of intense composition he was to write no fewer than seventeen concertos.

Since from now on he would be dependent on the success of his works for his living, he was composing both for an audience of dilettantes – mainly his concertante works – as well as for musicians capable of appreciating less accessible pieces, his chamber music in particular.

It was for his subscription concerts that he composed the Piano Concerto No.13, taking the solo part himself at its first performance in March 1783. The jubilant, martial character of the opening movement, proclaimed by trumpets and drums, enchanted the ears of the general public, while the contrapuntal passages – a reference to the fugues of J.S. Bach that Mozart had recently come across – were aimed at the connoisseurs. As tradition dictated, the central movement was slow and meditative, with the trumpets and drums falling silent.

In this tender romance a long dialogue between the piano and the oboe is heard, accompanied by strings, and punctuated by the horns. The rondo finale reinstates the tonality of the opening movement, but rapidly gives way to a startling passage in the key of C minor – originally planned for the central movement. Mozart here gives us moments of inward feeling and soloistic brilliance alternating in perfect accord, keeping a final surprise in store, as the movement unexpectedly dissolves in a pianissimo ending.

The virtuosity of ensemble, the play of contrasts of nuance and tonal shading, and the numerous surprise effects running through the work: they all go to highlight the solo pianist’s dexterity and the sensitivity of his playing.

The Piano Concerto No.5, composed when Mozart was just seventeen, may be considered as an early work, a harbinger of the more dazzling compositions yet to come. At that time Mozart was still in the service of Archbishop Colloredo of Salzburg who, although he had given him the title of Konzertmeister and a substantial salary, nevertheless treated him as a mere servant. During this period, which he resented as one of humiliating servitude, Mozart composed a number of instrumental pieces strongly influenced by the predominating ‘galant’ style: works of a happy, carefree nature, technically demanding and liberally ornamented. There are also other influences apparent in this relatively short work: its formal construction, and the use of the orchestra as an instrumental body, were both features he had learned from Johann Christian Bach, whom he had met in London in 1764; while the string tremolo with its rapidly repeated notes, and the orchestral crescendo, betray the influence of the Mannheim School represented notably by Christian Cannabich – his music had made a strong impression on the young Mozart during his stay in Paris in 1763. Finally, the concerto’s melodic elaboration reveals the important place Italian opera occupied throughout his life. Yet the presence of trumpets and drums in this concerto is rather unusual for Mozart at this time: he was not to use them again until his Concerto No.13. In the opening movement, cast in the conventional sonata form, the piano and orchestra converse with each other, but without marked virtuosity, except for the cadenza at the end of the movement. The tone is joyous and insouciant, and in the sudden surprises, most of all the abrupt changes of dynamic, the composer lets us see his mischievous side.

The central movement unfolds an elegant melody like a serenade, developed in turn by the orchestra and the piano. The final rondo sees the resplendent return of the trumpets and drums and shows off the soloist’s pianistic strengths. Dissatisfied with this third movement, Mozart made a new version of it in 1782, performing it in one of his Viennese concerts.

The Concerto No.25, a work of his maturity, was composed by Mozart at the height of his fame, in the very year that his collaboration with the librettist Lorenzo da Ponte gave birth to The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni. Completed and performed in Vienna, this concerto was nevertheless meant for the ears of the Prague audience who had given his most recent works such an exultant acclaim: hence the show of virtuosity throughout.

The orchestral opening of the long first movement inevitably recalls that of his last symphony, the Jupiter, as well as his operatic overtures. Mozart then unfolds several themes – including one that seems to anticipate the Marseillaise. The treatment of the instruments is similar to that of his chamber music, and it shows the evolution of the composer’s thought, his close interest in the timbre of each separate instrument: witness the long colloquy between the oboe, flute, bassoon and horn at the beginning of the second movement, an interchange that continues after the piano entry. There are some astonishingly daring harmonic strokes, probably intended to make the connoisseurs sit up and take note – but they can also be instinctively heard and appreciated. The last movement, a triumphal rondo, was inspired by a Gavotte taken from his opera Idomeneo, composed some years before. Once again, Mozart provides the unexpected, including the insertion of an episode beginning in a minor key, a passage charged with that emotion and torment so often found in his mature works – particularly in Don Giovanni. The melodic exchanges between the oboe and flute are some of the most beautiful moments in Mozart’s entire musical oeuvre.

OLIVIER CAVÉ Having studied under Nelson Goerner, Maria Tipo and Aldo Ciccolini, Olivier Cavé gave his first concert with the Camerata Lysy under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin in September of 1991. His career took a turn in September 2008 upon the release of a first recording for Aeon (Outhere Music Group), which features sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. Critics across Europe praised the Swiss pianist with Neapolitan roots for having ‘returned to the source’.

Dedicated to Muzio Clementi, Cavé’s second recording is even more striking than his first.

Released in the autumn of 2010, the CD was given a 5 Diapason rating, 4 Stars from Classica and the highest award from the Japanese magazine Geijutsu Records. This success also led to invitations to perform at prestigious locations throughout the world. His tour along the American eastern seaboard was a success and preceded his debut with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra in February 2012 under the direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini, where the pianist was praised as a ‘model of refinement behind the keyboard’. In August 2012, Olivier Cavé made a remarkable debut at La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival in France. He released his third disc with Aeon in May 2013, dedicated to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and entitled, Concerti, Capriccio e Aria – Nel gusto italiano, a program that he interpreted at Venice’s Teatro La Fenice. Cavé made a second appearance at La Roque d’Anthéron International Piano Festival in the summer of 2013 where he was hailed as ‘a revelation of the 33rd edition’. In March 2014, a glowing review in the New York Times marked the pianist’s New York City debut at The Frick Collection. Olivier Cavé’s fourth album, entitled Chiaro e scuro, was released with Aeon in 2015, dedicated to the music of Joseph Haydn and Domenico Scarlatti. The recording, which topped Forbes’ 10 Best Classical Recordings 2015 list, received unanimous critical and popular acclaim.

RINALDO ALESSANDRINI In addition to his activities as Founder-Director of Concerto Italiano, Rinaldo Alessandrini is renowned as a recitalist on the harpsichord, fortepiano and organ, and is considered one of the most authoritative interpreters of Monteverdi and the baroque repertoire worldwide. His profound knowledge and love of the Italian repertoire is naturally reflected in programmes in which he seeks to reproduce the essential, but often elusive, expressive and cantabile elements so fundamental to Italian music in the 17th and 18th centuries.

He has performed in Japan, Canada, USA and throughout Europe, and is in increasing demand by the world’s leading orchestras. Recent engagements as an opera conductor included a complete Monteverdi opera cycle in Milan (La Scala) and Opera Garnier – Paris.

His recordings (for Naive, Astrèe, Arcana, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi) include not only Italian music, but Bach and his contemporaries as well. VON DER JUGEND ZUR REIFE: WERDEGANG IN KLAVIERKONZERTEN VON ÉLISE PETIT

Soeben hat der junge Mozart seine Anstellung als Konzertmeister im Dienst des Erzbischofs von Salzburg, Hieronymus Colloredo, aufgegeben. Nun zieht er nach Wien, wo er endlich das Leben als unabhängiger Komponist kennenlernt. Die Hauptstadt der Habsburgermonarchie bietet ein äußerst niveauvolles musikalisches Leben. Die in Wien herrschende künstlerische Freiheit und ein dynamisches Musikverlagswesen veranlassen zahlreiche Komponisten dazu, ihre Werke hier in öffentlichen Konzerten aufführen zu lassen. Auch Mozart organisiert höchstpersönlich mehrere Konzerte in Wien und Prag. Sage und schreibe siebzehn Klavierkonzerte komponiert er in dieser intensiven Schaffensperiode. Um seinen Lebensunterhalt abzusichern, ist er nunmehr auf den Erfolg seiner Werke angewiesen und komponiert daher gleichermaßen sowohl für ein breiteres Publikum von Musikliebhabern als auch für erfahrene Musiker. Ersterem widmet er vor allem konzertierende Musik, letzteren eher schwerer zugängliche Stücke, etwa seine Kammermusik.

Das Klavierkonzert Nr. 13 für Klavier und Orchester, in dem er bei der Uraufführung im März 1783 selbst den Solopart übernimmt, hat Mozart speziell für seine Subskriptionskonzerte komponiert. Vom ersten Satz an ergötzt sein durch die Trompeten und Pauken getragener freudig-kämpferischer Charakter das breite Publikum; die kontrapunktischen Passagen mit ihrem impliziten Bezug auf die Fugen Johann Sebastian Bachs, welche Mozart kurz zuvor entdeckt hatte, sind hingegen eher den Kennern vorbehalten. Getreu der Tradition gestaltet sich der mittlere Satz langsamer und meditativer, Trompeten und Pauken bleiben hier stumm. Dafür erklingt in dieser zarten Romanze ein langer Dialog zwischen Piano und Oboe, der von den Streichern begleitet und von den Hörnern akzentuiert wird. Der Schlusssatz – ein Rondo – knüpft wieder an die anfängliche Tonart an, geht dann jedoch relativ schnell in eine überraschende Passage in c-Moll über, jener 19

Tonart, die Mozart ursprünglich für den Mittelsatz vorgesehen hatte. Der Komponist liefert hier eine Partitur, in der Gefühl und Virtuosität sich in perfekter Harmonie abwechseln, und die am Ende mit ihrem in pianissimo gedämpften Schluss einen weiteren Überraschungseffekt bereithält.

Die Virtuosität des Ganzen, das kontrastreiche Spiel der Nuancen und Klangfarben, aber auch die zahlreichen Überraschungseffekte, die das Werk durchziehen, setzen sowohl die Geschicklichkeit des Pianisten als auch die Einfühlsamkeit seines Spiels ins Licht.

Das mit nur 17 Jahren von Mozart komponierte Klavierkonzert Nr. 5 kann als Jugendwerk betrachtet werden, das seine kommenden brillanten Kompositionen ankündigt. Der junge Mozart steht zu jener Zeit im Dienst des neuen Salzburger Erzbischofs Colloredo, der, obgleich er ihn zum Konzertmeister ernannt hat und ihm ein ansehnliches Gehalt zahlt, ihn wie einen Diener behandelt. Während dieser Zeit, die Mozart als demütigende Knechtschaft empfindet, komponiert er zahlreiche Instrumentalstücke, die vom vorherrschenden galanten Stil geprägt sind: fröhlicher und unbeschwerter Charakter, virtuose Passagen und Verzierungen sind dessen Hauptmerkmale.

Auch andere Einflüsse sind in diesem relativ kurzen Werk zu erkennen: formaler Aufbau und Einsatz des Orchesters als instrumentale Masse wurden ihm von dem 1764 in London begegneten Johann Christoph Bach gelehrt; die Verwendung von Tremolo (kurze wiederholte Noten bei den Streichern) und Crescendo im Orchester verraten den Einfluss der Mannheimer Schule, vertreten vor allem von Christian Cannabich, dessen Musik den jungen Mozart während seines Parisaufenthalts im Jahr 1763 nachhaltig beeindruckt hatte. Aus der Melodieführung schließlich lassen sich Rückschlüsse auf den hohen Stellenwert ziehen, den die italienische Oper bereits zu diesem frühen Zeitpunkt für Mozart einnimmt und sein Leben lang einnehmen wird. Dass dieses Klavierkonzert Trompeten und Pauken enthält, ist eher ungewöhnlich, denn Mozart bringt diese beiden Instrumente erst ab dem 13. Klavierkonzert wieder zum Einsatz. Im ersten Satz, der der traditionellen Sonatensatzform folgt, konversieren Klavier und Orchester ohne brillante Virtuosität, von der finalen Kadenz einmal abgesehen. Der Ton ist fröhlich und sorglos, und die Überraschungseffekte, vor allem die plötzlichen Veränderungen der Nuancen, lassen den spaßigen

Charakter des Komponisten durchscheinen. Im mittleren Satz erklingt eine elegante Melodie wie eine Serenade, die abwechselnd vom Orchester und vom Klavier getragen wird. Im finalen Rondo tauchen erneut die Trompeten und Pauken auf; das technische Können des Pianisten wird hier vollauf zur Geltung gebracht. Mozart ist indes unzufrieden mit diesem dritten Satz und verfasst 1782 schließlich eine neue Version, die er im Rahmen seiner Wiener Konzerte aufführt.

Das Klavierkonzert Nr. 25, ein Werk der Reife, komponiert Mozart auf dem Höhepunkt seines Ruhmes in jenem Jahr, in dem aus seiner Zusammenarbeit mit dem Librettisten Lorenzo da Ponte Figaros Hochzeit und Don Giovanni hervorgehen. Das in Wien fertiggestellte und uraufgeführte Klavierkonzert richtet sich jedoch in erster Linie an das Prager Publikum, das Mozarts jüngste Werke mit großem Triumph aufgenommen hatte – dies erklärt auch die allgegenwärtige Virtuosität.

Die Eröffnung des langen ersten Satzes erinnert an diejenige seiner letzten Sinfonie Jupiter sowie an die Ouvertüren seiner Opern. Anschließend entfaltet er mehrere Themen, eines davon scheint die Marseillaise anzudeuten. An der Art, wie Mozart die Instrumente einsetzt, ähnlich der, die er in seiner Kammermusik pflegt, spiegeln sich die Entwicklung und Reife des Komponisten und sein Interesse für die Tonfarben einer jeden Instrumentengruppe. Davon zeugt die lange Konversation zwischen Oboe, Querflöte, Fagott und Horn zu Beginn des zweiten Satzes, die selbst nach Einsetzen des Klaviers noch fortgeführt wird. Flüchtig lassen sich auch erstaunlich kühne Harmonien vernehmen, die wohl in erster Linie die Kenner jener Zeit verblüffen sollten. Der letzte Satz, ein triumphierendes Rondo, ist von einer Gavotte aus seiner einige Jahre früher komponierten Oper Idomeneo inspiriert. Einmal mehr spart Mozart hier nicht an Überraschungseffekten, wenn er z. B. eine durch eine Moll-Tonart eingeleitete Strophe einbaut, die von jener Ergriffenheit und Pein geprägt ist, die sein gesamtes Spätwerk und insbesondere seinen Don Giovanni durchziehen.

Die Passage, in der Oboe und Flöte miteinander in Dialog treten, gehört zu den schönsten Momenten Mozart’schen Schaffens.

OLIVIER CAVÉ Nach seinem Studium bei Nelson Goerner, Maria Tipo und Aldo Ciccolini gab Olivier Cavé im September 1991 sein erstes Konzert mit der Camerata Lysy unter der Leitung von Yehudi Menuhin. Im September 2008 erfuhr seine Karriere einen neuen Aufschwung mit der Veröffentlichung seines ersten Albums mit Sonaten von Domenico Scarlatti bei dem Label Aeon (Outhere Music Group). In ganz Europa lobten die Kritiker den Schweizer Pianisten neapolitanischer Herkunft dafür, dass er „zu den Wurzeln zurückgekehrt” sei. Cavés zweite, Muzio Clementi gewidmete Aufnahme sorgte für noch mehr Aufsehen. Die im Herbst 2010 veröffentlichte CD erhielt 5 Diapasons, 4 Etoiles Classica und die höchste Auszeichnung des japanischen Musikmagazins Geijutsu Records. Dieser Erfolg öffnete ihm die Türen der renommiertesten Konzertsäle der Welt. Seine Tournee entlang der amerikanischen Ostküste war ein großer Erfolg und stellt den Auftakt zu seinem Debüt mit dem von Rinaldo Alessandrini dirigierten San Francisco Symphony Orchestra im Februar 2012 dar, für das der Pianist als „Modell für pianistische Raffinesse” gewürdigt wurde. Im August 2012 gab Olivier Cavé sein sehr beachtetes Debüt in Frankreich auf dem internationalen Klavierfestival von La Roque d’Anthéron. Darauf folgte im Mai 2013 die Veröffentlichung seiner dritten CD Concerti, Capriccio e Aria – Nel gusto italiano, die der Musik von Johann Sebastian Bach gewidmet ist und bei einem Konzert im Teatro La Fenice in Venedig aufgenommen wurde. Im Sommer 2013 spielte Cavé erneut auf dem Klavierfestival La Roque d’Anthéron und wurde von der Kritik als „Offenbarung des 33. Festivals“ gefeiert. Im März 2014 gab Cavé sein Debüt in New York an der Frick Collection, woraufhin die New York Times eine begeisterte Kritik druckte.

Olivier Cavés viertes Album Chiaro e scuro erschien 2015 bei Aeon und vereint Werke von Joseph Haydn und Domenico Scarlatti. Die Aufnahme, die die Forbes Top-Ten der besten Klassikalben 2015 anführt, wurde einhellig von Kritik und Publikum gelobt.

RINALDO ALESSANDRINI

Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Gründer und künstlerischer Leiter des Barockensembles Concerto Italiano hat Rinaldo Alessandrini sich als Rezitalist am Cembalo, Hammerklavier und an der Orgel einen Namen gemacht. Zudem gilt er weltweit als einer der maßgebendsten Interpreten von Monteverdi und dem Barockrepertoire. Seine ausgesprochene Kenntnis des italienischen Repertoires und seine Liebe dazu spiegeln sich auf natürliche Weise in Programmen wider, in denen er danach strebt, die für die italienische Musik des 17. und 18.

Jahrhunderts so grundlegenden, oft jedoch nur schwer fassbaren wesentlichen expressiven und kantablen Elemente wiederzugeben. Rinaldo Alessandrini gastierte in Japan, Kanada, den USA und ganz Europa und ist bei den weltweit führenden Orchestern immer gefragter.

Jüngste Engagements führten ihn als Dirigent von Monteverdis komplettem Opernzyklus an die Scala nach Mailand und die Opera Garnier in Paris. Seine Diskografie (bei Naïve, Astrèe, Arcana, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi) umfasst nicht nur italienische Musik, sondern auch Bach und dessen Zeitgenossen. Er hat die höchsten Auszeichnungen erhalten, darunter fünf Gramophone Awards, zwei Grand Prix du Disque, dreimal den Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, den Prix Caecilia, den Premio Cini und vier Midem Awards in Cannes. Vom französischen Kulturministerium wurde Rinaldo Alessandrini zum Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres gekürt und gemeinsam mit seinem Ensemble Concerto Italiano mit dem begehrten italienischen Musikkritikpreis Premio Abbiati geehrt. Darüber hinaus ist Rinaldo Alessandrini Herausgeber der bei Bärenreiter erschienenen wissenschaftlichen Editionen von Monteverdis Orfeo und Ulisse.
