County Expected to Add Voting Precincts Dina Garcia-Peña, Starr
Although an official determination will not be made until either late August or September the Starr County Commission is expected to approve two to three additional voting precincts as well as redrawing the lines for some Commissioner Precincts. On Thursday, July 15th the Commission held a public workshop to begin the redistricting procedures. The group heard some of the unofficial counts from the latest census. The total population is estimated to be 64,078 and ideally that would mean 16,020 people per Commissioner district. As it stands district 1, represented by Jose “Kiko” Perez, is estimated to include 18,979. District 2, represented by Raul “Roy” Pena is estimated at 15,054 people. District 3, represented by Eloy Garza is estimated at 13,858 and the last district, represented by Ruben Saenz has 16,187. The deviation from an average is at 31.97%.
