Sweden is the third largest country in Western Europe and with its 9.5 million inhabitants, it is the most populated country in Scandinavia. The official language is Swedish, but it is easy to get around with English. Sweden is home for inventors and entrepreneurs and has exported great ideas and businesses such as IKEA and Ericsson. Sweden is also associated with innovation in another way – the Nobel Prize is presented each year by the Swedish monarch in Stockholm.
Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, which is also the largest city. Other big cities are Gothenburg, MalmĂś and Uppsala. As it is a Nordic country the lifestyle and scenery vary greatly with the seasons. Winter offers great opportunities to ski and skate while a visit to the Stockholm archipelago is a must during summer. Sweden is known for its strong sense of equality and environmental thinking and it is never too far from the bustling cities to the calm of the forest.
