ABOUT THE ROLE DEPUTY COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR Oversees a variety of operational and/or staff departments as determined by the County Administrator. Manages projects and staff, allocates resources, and prepares and monitors budget. Works with Executive Directors to ensure effective communication with the County Administrator, Board of County Commissioners (BoCC), other Elected Officials, staff from other jurisdictions, and the public. Serves as the County Administrator in their absence.

Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, management, finance, or a related field.

Five years of demonstrated managerial and administrative leadership experience; ten years of experience preferred.

Three years of experience in managing large, diverse organizations or functions, preferably in a public sector environment preferred.

Knowledge of and practical experience in public administration with particular emphasis in government administration, including the basic principles of organization, management, personnel, procurement, economic development, facilities management.

Knowledge of research methods and techniques used to assemble, organize, and present statistical, financial, or factual information derived from a variety of sources. Ability to effectively prepare and present reports.

Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and other requirements governing public jurisdictions.

Thorough knowledge of modern business methods, practices, and trends.

Ability to delegate authority and responsibility, as well as maintain an effective organization. Ability to organize, direct, and coordinate the activities of others.

Ability to demonstrate strong customer service principles to provide cost effective and speedy solutions and conclusions to issues.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the internal departments, members of the Board of County Commissioners, outside agencies, and the public.

Demonstrated decision making skills, utilizing analysis, investigation, and experience.

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

An equivalent combination or related education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirements above.

Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.

IDEAL CANDIDATE The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a highly ethical, trustworthy, approachable, servant leader capable of continue the legacy of a highlyregarded Deputy County Administrator who has recently been appointed the El Paso County Attorney. The County is looking for a high-level professional who: • Assists the County Administrator in implementation of policies and directives of the Board of County Commissioners, as related to assigned departments.

• Promotes effective delivery of services and use of fiscal resources by overseeing and coordinating general operations of internal departments.

• Responsible for oversight of hiring, training, evaluating and disciplining staff, budget preparation and monitoring overall personnel management.

• Assists the County Administrator in developing internal monitoring and outcome-based measurements of success for the internal departments to ensure that County resources are used in a manner that furthers the attainment of strategic goals.

Salary: $190,000 - $200,000 annually Vacation: 120 Hours per year, accumulated bi-weekly Personal Time: 24 hours, renews each year Holidays: 11 paid holidays each year Sick Leave: 96 hours per year, accumulated bi-weekly Retirement: El Paso County offers a competitive government retirement plan.
