ABOUT ME Hi, I’m Eloise Hardy, I’m a first year Product Design BA student at Nottingham Trent University. My passion and creativity for all things design has grown and developed since I was a child. Most of my childhood was spent sat on a stool in my dad’s garage drawing on his whiteboard all night. It has always astounded me that a product has started from one idea on a peice of paper ,the different possibilities are immense. Being surrounded by creativity helped me become more confident with my disabilty and has given me the chance to have another perspective and to be able to influence products to have a postitive impact on a person’s daily life.

RESEARCH The moodboard summaries the key features I took from the provided persona. The key points were a warm palette, a certain aesthetic such as the 70s and timeless yet functional designs.

SKETCHING By sketching I was able to pull inspiration from the persona’s home. This allowed me to produce various ideas around the concept of a magazine rack. I wanted to combine functionality with timeless design.

MODELLING I decided to model several shapes and designs. This inspired me to use different shapes toegther and expolre the shape and length of the legs. This was to see which was suitable and followed the aesthetics provided.

CAD After modelling several different options, I created the idea in solidworks and Keyshot. This displays the finished magazine rack in the enviroment it would be used in.

The Protean Toy Individual brand extension project

BRIEF

To design an innovative SMART product for dogs for the brand Tails.com. It must incorporate an element of technology

RESEARCH Within the Tails brief I researched different types pf dogs toys that included smart technology to get a brief idea of the products already out there. To expand on this further I decided to do a brand anaylsis on Tails and the aesthetci they use such as specific colours and themes. I came to the conclusion that they use soft colours and are very user friendly.

SKETCHING With sketching the ideas out I really wanted to emphaise on the personalisation that Tails use when it comes to their products. I wanted the toy to focus on the dogs needs as well as helping out the owners know whats going on.

MODELLING Being able to model various concepts as well as using parts of real dog toys through primary research. I was able to take inspiration from the textures and colours used. It also meant that I was able to experiment with different shapes and dimesions. I found out that working on a bigger scale was more difficult with this brief and therfore focused on smaller toys that the dogs could play with on their own.

CAD After the sketching and modelling process, my ideas got more refined to the point where one dog toy design was being the most developed and improved due to it’s potential. Within this I created the idea in photoshop to see how it would look with the chosen dimensions and colour scheme.

SPACE Group project Live brief with Matter

BRIEF Considering the UK guidence detailed below for preventing the spread of coronavirus. Design a product, service or system that enables commuting on public transport e.g. bus, train or plane.

RESEARCH The coronavirus pandemic has chnaged people’s behavioural patterns in public which has rapidly declined the use of public transport. We as a group researced into the trends that have took place due to the effects of covid and wanted to create a product that allowed passengers to feel safe again to travel on trains again.

SKETCHING As a group, through sketching we developed our ideas into four categories. Each of us developed each category to show different perspectives. This then showed that our ideas were resembling each other. This made it easier to choose a final concept.

MODELLING Modelling the ideas in 2D and 3D allowed us to see the product in different perspectives. We each modelled a different concept but stayed within the idea of being able to use it on trains. With the various perspectives we were able to improve our final concpet further.

Beth Grover

CAD Improving our final concept futher we were able to then create it in Solidworks and produce a final model. The cad was made by Beth and the model was made by Maya and George. By producing a final model and cad it brought our idea to life and made it look more realistic. It shows how the product would work and ow it would look visually to passengers boarding the train.
