POSTHUMAN PAINTINGS 3.8.19–31.8.19 Stiwdio 3, High Street, Aberteifi

Posthuman Paintings This exhibition is part of Eloise Govier’s posthuman project. The ‘posthuman’ is an entity thoroughly entwined with technology. 'Posthuman Paintings' showcases pieces that are created using traditional painting practices and those created using digital methods; technology is thoroughly embedded in the production of the ‘experimental’ collection. Many of the images were captured as the artist travelled across the UK and Europe. The digital expressions are created using devices like smartphones and tablets; these images, in turn, inspire the traditional paintings which are made using paint and paint brush. In the exhibition, digital expressions are displayed side-by-side with the traditional works in a bid to acknowledge the new media, and new way of seeing the world. The paintings capture the ‘in-between-ness’ of actual and digital creative practices, and iconographically depict a ‘flat’ reality, much like the worlds we are exposed to on our smartphones. Eloise explains: ‘These ‘flat’ paintings capture life differently from my usual style. Technology expanded my palette by offering unlimited and immediate colours–a factor that traditional methods cannot really compete with. On one side I was working with a surface that bends, gives, and betrays human touch (the canvas), whereas on the other side, the digital expressions required a totally different method of creation, one that was enacted on the surface of a screen'. The exhibition reveals a new ‘posthuman’ side to Eloise’s creative practice. We hope you enjoy the show.

Posthuman Paintings Mae'r arddangosfa hwn yn rhan o brosiect Eloise Govier's 'post human'. Mae'r 'post human' yn endid sy'n gysylltiedig a thechnoleg. Mae'r arddangosfa 'Post human paintings' yn dangos darnau a grewyd gan ddefnyddio peintio traddodiadol a'r rhai a grewyd gan ddefnyddio dulliau digidol. Mae technoleg wedi hymgorffori'n drylwyr wrth gynhyrchu'r casgliad arbrofol. Cafodd llawer o'r delweddau eu dal with i'r artist deithio ar draws DU ac Ewrop. Mae'r mynegiadau digidol yn cael eu creu gan ddefnyddio dyfeisiau fel ffonau clyfar a thabledi, mae'r delweddai hyn yn eu tro yn ysbrydoli'r paentiadau traddodiadol sy'n cael eu gwneud gan ddefnyddio paent a brwsh paent. Yn yr arddangosfa caiff mynegiadau digidol eu harddangos ochr wrth ochr a'r gweithiau traddodiadol, mewn ymgais i gydnabod y cyfryngau newydd a ffordd newydd o weld y byd. Mae'r paentiadau'n cipio'r 'rhyming-gydymdeimlad' o arferio creadigol gwirionedd a digidol ac yn darlunio realiti 'fflat' eiconig, yn debyg iwan i'r byd rydym yn agored iddo ar ein ffonau clyfar. Nodiadau Eloise: ‘Mae'r paentiadau flat hyn yn dal bywyd yn wahanol i'm steil arferol. Mae technoleg wedi ehangu fy palet drwy gynnig lliwiau diderfyn ac yn syth, ffactor na all dulliau traddodiadol gystadlu a nhw mewn gwirionedd. Ar un ochr, roeddwn i'n gweithio gyda arwyneb sy'n troi, yn rhoi ac yn bradychu cyffyrddiad dynol (y cynfas). Ar yr ochr arall, roedd yr ymadroddion digidol yn gofyn am ddull creu hollol wahanol, un a weithredwyd ar wyneb sgrin’. Mae'r arddangosfa'n datgelu ochr newydd 'Post human' i ymarfer creadigol Eloise.
