01 SALUBRITAS

COWORKING WITHIN A ZEN

Salubritas is my current third year individual project creating a Zero Emission Building (ZEB) within a Zero Emission Neighbourhood (ZEN).

The site allocated in our brief is located on a busy yet neglected high street in Swindon called Commercial road. I chose to design a coworking space that would allow for the growth of small business, promoting of healthy flexible working and increased networking to overall increase the high unemployment rate in the area.

With context, client and cultural considerations in mind, I designed my building integrating the previous buildings structure and materiality as a regenerative new space with Passiv haus design features.

02 SWINDON BRIDGE This project was my first third year project completed as a group over a period of 4 weeks. We collaborated with civil engineering students to design a bridge and communal space in Swindon’s heritage center, creating a new north-south link over the train tracks.

Our group aimed to not only create a new pathway but utilise the site and space to create a sustainably enriching and educationally engaging new space for the community. We used sustainably sourced materials, whilst carefully examining our embodied carbon, to create an inviting new green space in Swindon.

03 GROVE

BUSINESS PARK MASTERPLAN

Whilst working at SRA Architects, I worked on jobs in the automotive and commercial sector but spent most of my time on Grove Business Park’s 2-phase masterplan design.

The site plan to the left was worked on in 2D and 3D in which I modelled numerous bespoke elements such as PV carports, bike shelters and landscaping to form rendered visuals as seen below. I was involved in the planning application of the phase 1 buildings and additionally worked on tender plans, sections and elevations involving detailed design such as in the section below.

04 CEREMONY

EVENT SPACE

Ceremony was an individual 6 week project in second year. The brief entailed creating a modern ceremonial space for both weddings and funerals.

I chose to design a progressive space that follows the step by step process of ceremonial events whilst fitting in the georgian residential area of Combe down, in Bath.

Creating atmospherically happy yet calm peaceful spaces within my building, this venue accomodated for people of all ages and cultures to grieve or celebrate each in their own way.

05 BATHWICK HILL

MASTERPLAN

Bathwick Hill was a short 4 week group design project in second year set to create modest modern housing in Bath.

As a group we designed 2 types of housing of which I particularly focused on the semi embedded terraced houses. I additionally analysed the site in depth and created a masterplan for our designs as pictured above. My group aimed to integrate our housing well into Bath’s architecture by successfully combining modern design with georgian architectural features.

I created site plans, floor plans and elevations for the property developer client interested in expanding this home located in a lower-middle class residential neighbourhood. I learnt how to creatively design housing layouts to repurpose the building, whilst applying local building regulations and codes in Belgium. All designs were done on AutoCAD and Photoshop.

Whilst interning at Greenarch in 2022 in Belgium I was set to transform a previously extended house into modest modern apartments, maintaining the current structure of the building as much as I could.

HOUSE FOR A CERAMICIST

The Artisan project brief was a first year project involved creating a home and studio space within a set brick enclosure on a remote island.

SITE CONTEXT

In response to the brief I chose to make a home for a ceramicist and her partner. I designed separate live work environment to ensure a balanced living space, which in todays world is essential. Furthermore I sought to create an organic home applying served and servant areas through the circulation and organisation of the two buildings.

DETAILED DESIGN

This project acted as an introduction into the structural composition of a house in first year. It entailed detailing walls, floors, windows and doorframes within a masonry construction.

The detailed section was formed on AutoCAD and Affinity Photo, displaying the details behind the architectural components of a building.

09 LEVITATION Levitation was an 8 week group project in first year tasked to create a structure that was set to structurally or mentally make one feel levitated.

As a group we approached the contrast of feeling at ease or unease. This project introduced the necessary communicative and teamwork skills the architectural industry requires as the teams were made up of architecture and civil engineering students. Effectively we created a self standing structure successfully able to “levitate” two people.

01 Overwhelmed was an artwork completed exploring the beautiful complexity of habitual expatriation.

02 This piece was made as a representation of my view of Ireland; it being my ‘happy’ place.

I used mixed media with geometric and organic lines to convey how unique and special Ireland is to me.

03 Overwhelmed, again was a portrait seeking to display emotions sprouted from the effect of habitual expatriation during Covid (sequence to 01).

04 Encaged was a display of cities as part of smaller moments and memories - shown in the laser cut protruding windows.
