14 September 2014 Abu Dhabi - The INNOVATOR Summer Series concluded last Saturday with a3D printing workshop. The Innovator Summer Series built on the successful INNOVATOR eventheld earlier in the year,focuses on both popularizing science and technology to foster world-class talents with the right skills and attitude, as well as innovationto help cultivate and improve the DIY (do-it-yourself) movement in the UAE. The INNOVATOR Summer Series was designed as part of INNOVATOR, a strategic initiative of the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC). It offereda platform where like-minded individualscan come together in an environment that encourages and empowers creativity, interactivity and idea exchange.

Participants traveled from across the countrytotake part in INNOVATOR activities and workshops in the fields of Aero Modelling, 3D Printing, Robotics and Raspberry Pi Programming. Tinkerers also had access to an open workspace, the INNOVATOR ZONE, allowing them use of different equipment and tools including laser cutters and metal cutting machines, drills, wrenches and adjustable spanners.

"It is a testament to the appeal of our workshops that we were fully booked within a week of the official announcement and had to offer an additional workshop in order to cater to the high demand", he added.

The INNOVATOR Summer Series included two DIY (Do-It-Yourself) project competitions offering all UAE based DIYers the chance to win one of two 5,000 AED awards. Khaled Alnems was announced as the first winner for his creative Blue Tooth Device designed to preserve electrical energy. UAE based DIYers still have a chance to submit their projects until the 24th of September and win the second prize. Competition categories include aerospace, automotive, arts & crafts, fashion, digital fabrication, electronics, robotics and sustainability; and arejudged on creativity, interactivity and presentation.

-EndsAbout INNOVATOR INNOVATOR Summer Series is a set ofworkshops and offerings that provide makers, tinkerers and innovators a space to learn a new skill or improve an existing one, and bring their ideas to life. The workshops and INNOVATOR space will take place at the Arzana building in the Abu Dhabi Petroleum Institute, and will feature six workshops from May 31 to August 30.

The series of activities will bring together UAE-based talented individuals - DIYers (tinkerers, tech enthusiasts, do-it-yourself builders, crafters, car tuners, IT programmers and designers) who are interested in building or who have started building something exciting based on the use of science or technology.

INNOVATOR Summer Series celebrates the success of the first edition of INNOVATOR which was held in March 2014, and recognizes the forwardthinking contribution the DIY movement brings to the UAE. INNOVATOR connects like-minded UAE talents: the creation and sharing of ideas and know-how.

INNOVATOR Summer Series is organized by the Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC), the government body responsible for supporting and supervising the development of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) within the Emirate.
