The Academic Essentials
Policies for Transferring Academic Credit
• Our general policy is to grant credit for any course from another college or university for which Elmhurst University offers an equivalent course, or for any course that is basic to a liberal arts curriculum. You must earn a grade of D or better to earn credit.
• Coursework is evaluated on a course-by-course basis.
• We also accept Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, military and College Level Exam Program credits.
• If you are entering Elmhurst from a community college, you may transfer the equivalent of 70 semester hours or 105 quarter hours. You’ll complete at least 58 semester hours at Elmhurst. If you are entering Elmhurst from a four-year institution, you may transfer 96 semester hours. You will complete at least 32 semester hours at Elmhurst.
• If you have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree at a participating, accredited Illinois institution, all nine Areas of Knowledge within the Elmhurst University Integrated Curriculum will be considered fulfilled. In addition, four of the seven Skills and Value Tags will also be considered complete. For more information, please contact the Office of Admission.
• You will be required to complete at least half of your major courses at Elmhurst.
Graduation Requirements
• To graduate from Elmhurst, you must complete a total of 128 semester hours. These credits can be a combination of transfer credits and Elmhurst credits, and a combination of Integrated Curriculum (general education), major and elective courses.
• Of the 128 semester hours, at least 40 hours must be at the 300/400 level. These cannot be completed at a community college.

Admission Requirements
Apply today!
• To be eligible for transfer admission to Elmhurst, you must be in good academic standing at your current institution.
• Elmhurst gives preference to students with cumulative grade-point averages of 2.50 and above. Serious consideration also is given to applicants with grade-point averages between 2.00 and 2.49. These averages are based on a 4.00 scale.
• If you have fewer than 30 semester hours of transferable coursework, please note that your high school records will also be considered in the admission decision.
To apply for transfer admission, please submit:
• A completed application
• An official transcript from each college or university you’ve attended
• A high school transcript (or the results of the GED test)
• Your scores on the ACT or SAT or an admission essay if you choose test-optional
If you’ve completed 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of college credit or have been out of high school for more than three years, you don’t have to submit test scores or an admission essay. While test scores may not be required, certain scores may meet proficiencies.
If you are a citizen of a country other than the United States, please submit the results of either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery in addition to the materials listed above. 5. Check the status of your financial aid on Self-Service.
6. Pay deposits and tuition through TouchNet Connect.
7. RSVP for advising and registration using the Advising RSVP app button after logging in to my.elmhurst.edu.
8. Submit housing application through My Housing.
9. Send official final high school and college transcripts.
10. Send in your student health record.
11. Attend Transfer Orientation and start classes!

Is Elmhurst a “transfer-friendly” university?
Absolutely! About half of our students come to us with experience at another college or university, and more than 500 transfer students join the Elmhurst community each year. We even offer a special orientation just for transfer students.
Can I visit campus and observe a class?
Yes, we welcome your visit to campus, whether you want to join us for a special transfer student event or arrange your own visit day. Please visit us online at elmhurst.edu/Visit for details.
Can I get an unofficial transfer credit evaluation without applying?
Yes! Send transcripts as an attachment to transcripts4eu@elmhurst.edu. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, major and school you are currently attending in your email.
Do any majors have GPA requirements for admission?
Yes. Here’s a rundown:
• Nursing majors must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA, with a 2.8 GPA in the science prerequisite courses to apply.
• Education majors need at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. Some programs require a 3.0 GPA.
• Majors in communication sciences and disorders (speech-language pathology) need a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA.
• Business majors must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA, the completion of English 106 Composition II (or the transfer equivalent), the completion of MTH 110 + the placement test or completion of MTH 121 (or the transfer equivalent with a C or better).
How will I know if my courses will transfer?
Along with your admission packet, you will receive a transfer credit evaluation showing all Integrated Curriculum courses fulfilled, the total number of transferable credits and any courses that did not transfer. Within a few weeks after admission, you’ll receive a major evaluation detailing all courses approved by the department for fulfillment of major requirements.

When do I register for classes?
If you’re starting at Elmhurst in the Fall Term, you’ll meet with an advisor and register during the summer. If you’re starting in Spring Term, you’ll meet with an advisor and register in January. Watch the mail for more information on advising dates once you’ve received your acceptance letter. Keep your eye out for some early bird registration dates.
Does my grade-point average at Elmhurst include prior coursework?
You will have two grade-point averages: one for Elmhurst only, and one that reflects all of your college-level work. The combined GPA is used to determine your eligibility for graduation honors.
Do I need an associate degree before I can transfer to Elmhurst?
No, you don’t need an associate degree, and you don’t need to have a certain number of credits completed. If you transfer to Elmhurst with fewer than 30 hours, however, we’ll look at your high school records in addition to your college-level work while making an admission decision.
