FROM BEACH WALKS TO BOLD CREATIONS:
The Shell Collection
STORY & PHOTOS PROVIDED BY: ERIN DONAHUE TICE

ELEVATING INTERIORS WITH BOLD, TEXTURAL, & Joyful Art
Erin Donahue Tice is an Austin-based artist, designer, and founder of a growing lifestyle brand that brings together fine art, coastal nostalgia, and accessible luxury. With a background in public relations and a deep love for interiors, Erin began painting after relocating from New York City to Austin, Texas, where she and her husband are raising their three young boys. What started as a creative outlet during a new season of motherhood quickly turned into a full-fledged career. Her artwork—often described as bold, textural, and joyful—now graces homes across the country and has drawn the attention of interior designers, collectors, and tastemakers alike. It has also been featured in outlets including Better Homes & Gardens, House Beautiful, and Southern Home, among others.
Sandy Shores TO STUDIO
Erin's most recent body of work, The Shells Collection, is her most personal and in-demand to date. It was born from long summer days spent at the family's home in the Hamptons, where beach walks and time by the ocean became a source of grounding and inspiration. She began by painting individual seashells and oyster shells—just for fun at first— turning them into charming trinket trays that she would gift or sell on her website. The response was immediate and overwhelming. They did so well that what started as a small experiment quickly grew into a defining artistic moment.
HANDMADE Family Memories

Wanting to take the concept further, Erin began arranging the handpainted shells onto canvas, creating layered, dimensional pieces that feel like part sculpture, part painting, and entirely nostalgic. Each shell is individually painted and composed by hand, transforming a once-humble material into something refined, intentional, and statement-worthy. The process has also become a family affair—her three boys love helping her paint shells during their downtime, often joining her in the studio. That shared love of creating has only deepened the emotional connection behind the collection.
A SOLD-OUT Success
The Shells Collection officially sold out before it even launched, and Erin has received hundreds of inquiries across Instagram, TikTok, and email from collectors hoping to commission a piece. While commissions are currently closed, she encourages those interested to fill out the form on her website, and she plans to reopen custom orders when capacity allows. She's incredibly grateful for the outpouring of interest and support—it's been the most successful and creatively fulfilling chapter of her career so far.

GLOBAL COLLABORATIONS & Coastal Charms
Erin recently traveled to Bermuda to oversee an art installation of her shell work in the lobby of the Rosewood Bermuda. At this luxury hotel, her pieces now welcome guests with a sense of organic beauty and island charm. While there, she also launched two exciting collaborations— partnering with Sarah Bray Bermuda and The Loren Hotel. Together, they created a limited-edition hat collection featuring ribbons handpainted by Erin, inspired by The Loren's properties in Austin, Texas, and Turks & Caicos. The designs reflect her love for thoughtful details, natural textures, and the places that continue to inspire her work.
CANVAS TO Accessories: ERIN'S EXPANDING VISION
Beyond her canvas pieces, Erin has recently expanded her Shells brand into wearable art and accessories. She launched a line of Shell Bags and Shell Pareos—both of which feature her original designs — and they are now available on her website. These products continue the spirit of the collection by bringing beauty, craftsmanship, and a touch of the seaside into everyday life.
BUILDING A LIFESTYLE BRAND BLENDING ART & Coastal Luxuries
Looking ahead, Erin is filled with excitement and gratitude for what's next. She has several new collaborations and art installations in the works across the U.S. and internationally, along with plans to expand The Shells Collection even further. What began as a personal creative project has become a brand-defining journey, and she's just getting started. Shop Erin's Art: @ERINDONAHUETICEART

Coastal CRUST
STORY BY JASON WILSON PHOTOS PROVIDED BY JASON WILSON & ROSALIE BRADFORD

In previous articles, I’ve discussed the differences between brisket and tritip. One of our favorite meals is smoked tri-tip sliders with homemade horseradish cream sauce. My good pal and Florida native, Rosalie Bradford of Castironskillz, just launched three new rubs packed with flavor. Aptly named Crust, Coastal, and Caliente. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on these and have my inaugural cook be tri-tip with Crust, and boy, it did not disappoint. The crunch, the flavor, the perfect blend of salt, pepper and garlic.
Up next to the queue, Coastal, a bright, refreshing mix of citrus, garlic and paprika with a solid base of salt and pepper. It comes with the promise of “one shake and you’re on island time.” Music to this King Tri-Tip’s ears! Lastly, Caliente, which I am pretty sure Rosalie named after me. A “smokin’ hot” Rub with a bold, smoky flavor, it will surely be a go-to for wings and ribs. If you are anything like me, you enjoy trying new seasonings and layering them with some of your favorite classics. Please give them a go and let me know what you think! Tag and follow Meat Therapy + Castironskillz on all social media platforms. We would love to see your Coastal Crust.

STORY AND PHOTOS BY MELISSA MCBRIDE OF THE WANDER EDIT
Hotel Vin is a wine-focused boutique hotel blending luxury, comfort and lots of entertainment with immersive wine culture. With a rooftop bar, gourmet dining, several areas of outdoor entertainment, and plush accommodations, it's ideal for staycations or travelers seeking a stylish escape. Part of the Marriott Bonvoy Autograph Collection, Hotel Vin delivers exclusive “Signature Experiences” with the exceptional touch of Coury Hospitality. Opened in 2020, as a gateway, it anchors Grapevine’s historic downtown at Main Street and Dallas Road, with the allure of easy access to the town’s best: local shops, restaurants, bars, art galleries, wineries, the TEXRail and historic Grapevine Vintage Railroad.
Cheers to Your Arrival!
The moment you step into the lobby, you’re immediately enveloped in a sense of comfort and warmth. A friendly and professional staff greets you with a complimentary glass of wine, ensuring your check-in process is smooth and enjoyable. On the other side, a striking blue wall, a cozy fireplace, plush furnishings, heavy drapes enhance the feeling of luxury and relaxation, setting the perfect tone for your stay in one of the hotel’s 120 well-appointed rooms. The horseshoe bar and Bacchus dining areas offer an excellent view of the hotel’s environment. The long hallway leads to Harvest Hall, a food court offering diverse dining options. There are also two “secret” signature experiences tucked away in the corridors for wine lovers and prohibition-era adventure seekers.
Bacchus Kitchen + Bar and WineYard Grill
The locally sourced cuisine and seasonal ingredients at Bacchus make it worth the drive, even if you're not staying overnight at the hotel. For breakfast, I savored their Eggs Benedict and for lunch...the absolutely delish pan-seared salmon. Window seating offers scenic views of the WineYard Grill + Bar, an expansive outdoor area surrounded by lush grapevines and framed by the historic Grapevine Vintage Railroad and the breathtaking colors of Texas sunsets. Savor a glass of fine wine beneath twinkling string lights and enjoy live music on most weekends.
Harvest Hall
This isn’t your typical food court! Harvest Hall is a chef-driven, European-inspired food hall featuring around eight unique culinary concepts. One of my personal favorites is Local Dock. Have you tried their generous Connecticut lobster roll and hot crab queso? Oh my! Stop by Main Line Coffee for your caffeine fix, enjoy a glass of wine in the open air bar, or head to Third Rail, a nightlife hotspot in Harvest Hall, known for its lively atmosphere with karaoke, live music, comedy shows, trivia night and other special events. Upon exiting Harvest Hall, you’ll find yourself in the expansive outdoor corner entertainment area beneath a looming clock tower, where live music fills the air on weekends.
CaveSociety: A Secret Sommelier’s Sanctuary
Heading down the main hall toward the parking garage you will find the hotel’s exclusive wine room, an elegant space adorned with a sparkling chandelier. On the opposite side lies a secret entrance—a door that leads you down the stairwell to another door only accessed by card and exclusive code. Welcome to CaveSociety, a private enclave designed for wine enthusiasts seeking an unparalleled tasting experience. Step into this hidden sanctuary where plush seating, accented by cheetah-print pillows, invites you to unwind in swanky style. At the center, the Wineemotion system offers an interactive way to enjoy hand-selected bottles, bringing an elevated, personalized wine experience to every exclusive member or guest.
Beyond The Telephone Booth Door
Look for the retro telephone booth—discreetly tucked in the corridor leading to Harvest Hall with your matchbook and secret handwritten access code in hand. You'll be welcomed by a framed Clint Eastwood print and a vintage phone underneath, the first clue in a secretive adventure. Reservations are a must at Magnum Speakeasy, as this intimate venue with its prohibition-theme, sultry atmosphere, zebra throw pillows and trophy mounts, and zebra throw pillows only accommodates 18 guests at a time. Expert mixologists await, ready to craft your preferred libation or simply ask for "Dealer's Choice."

Cha Cha Cha at Rioja
Step up to the Rioja Rooftop Terrace on the 4th floor, open seasonally, offering breathtaking panoramic views of downtown Grapevine. Immerse yourself in the vibrant energy with a live DJ, craft cocktails, weekend dining under the stars...and enjoy plenty of dancing!
Grapevine - What's in a Name?
Grapevine was named after the abundant wild mustang grapes that grew across Grape Vine Prairie. No need to "wine" as there are plenty of wineries and tasting rooms in town. Grapevine is also the official Christmas Capital of Texas and hosts many festivals--including this year's 39th Annual Grapefest!
GrapeFest & The Urban Wine Trail
Mark your calendars for September 11-14, 2025, and get ready to immerse yourself in the palatable world of wine at the People's Choice Wine Tasting Classic at Grapefest. Texas is the fifth largest wine-producing state in the country and Grapevine is home to the growing Urban Wine Trail.
All Aboard!
Grapevine's Vintage Railroad invites you on a journey of luxury rail travel dating back to the 1920s aboard beautifully restored train coaches. Offering scenic excursions to special events like the Harvest Wine Train and Santa's North Pole Express, this provides a unique experience just outside of Hotel Vin.
Meow Wolf: The Real Unreal
Just a short drive from Hotel Vin, I was bedazzled by Meow Wolf...an immersive art museum unlike any other located at Grapevine Mills. Upon entering a retro home, you find yourself in rooms with secret passages leading to captivating, interactive exhibits, colorful lights, and over-the-top artistic installations. A mad scientist drink area provides colorful concoctions by mixologists.
Golf Improvement Beyond Your Expectations
If you are a golfer looking for the premier destination for custom club fitting, expert golf instruction, the finest in high-quality equipment and accessories...be sure to visit The Golf Station adjacent to Hotel Vin.
Make Every Moment Matter
From luxurious rooms and fine dining to live entertainment and dancing, Hotel Vin seamlessly intertwines relaxation, excitement and elegance. With Grapevine’s charm and nearby attractions just steps away, "wine down" and make every moment matter at @HOTELVINTEXAS!

COASTAL COCKTAIL party
The Perfect Blend of Tropical Vibes & Casual Elegance

as summer winds down, there’s no better time to host a gathering infused with coastal charm, tropical décor, appetizers for grazing, and refreshing cocktails. I’m excited to share the creative ideas I used to throw a themed dinner club party, combining items from my collection, a few borrowed treasures, and some carefully selected new pieces to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. Let’s dive into the details and inspiration that brought this coastal celebration to life!
TAPPING INTO WHAT'S ON HAND
First, I started by thinking of all the tropical-themed décor I already had on hand that I could use for my cocktail party table. I wanted to host my cocktail party outside, and I have a small dining table on my front porch that I thought would be perfect. It wasn’t quite as much space as I needed, so I brought a small round table from inside the house and pulled it up right beside the small rectangular dining table. I strung the grass skirts along the glass top rectangle table and simply taped them onto the tabletop. Next, I used a fishing net to drape across the small round table. This was an inexpensive element I had already ordered for a tropical-themed shower I helped host. The grass hula skirts I had also previously used for a table skirt were whimsical and perfect for my cocktail table, along with some other décor I had saved.
INCORPORATING BOLD, NATURAL ELEMENTS FOR COASTAL FLAIR
A sweet friend let me borrow a huge seashell bowl for icing down drinks and made a bold statement on the round table. Appetizer plates were stacked beside the large seashell. Small square bamboo plates, along with smaller seashell appetizer plates, which I picked up at a thrift store, fit the theme for small bites. A friend also lent me her bamboohandled silverware, which was displayed inside a white vase for a casual setting and was easily accessible for guests. Linen napkins with a seashell embellished napkin ring were also stacked on this table. I created them inexpensively with only three supplies, making them super easy to create. I cut a paper towel roll into sections and wrapped them in white rope, securing them with hot glue, then embellished each with a small seashell as a final touch.
LUSH GREENS, FRESH BLOOMS & LIGHTING FOR A VIBRANT ATMOSPHERE
A few faux tropical leaves I picked up on sale at a craft store were tucked in here and there on the two tables, adding nicely to the theme. I cut a few branches from my trumpet vine, which was blooming vibrantly at the time. The intensely orange flowers were the pop I needed at my tables, along with beautiful, brightly colored arrangements of fresh flowers. These can easily be created with bundles of grocery store flowers without blowing the budget. If you have flowers growing in your yard, you can mix a few in and make your flower bundles go even farther. Want some additional décor items to complement a beach, coastal, or tropical theme party? Pick up some potted palm trees, palm fronds, tropical flowers like hibiscus, bougainvillea, or plumeria, tropical plants, flower leis, tiki torches, string lights, and paper lanterns in bright colors.
ELEVATE THE THEME WITH FRESH FRUITS & SEASHELLS
Nothing says “beachy” and “tropical” quite like seashells and tropical fruits. Small details can make a significant impact while still being budget-friendly. Fresh fruit, including grapefruit, oranges, lemons, kiwi, mango and pineapples, were placed randomly among the tables to finish off this tropical theme. I think what made the most significant impact were some seashells from a collection I’ve had for years. I used a couple of larger ones and also added groupings of smaller shells here and there on the tables. Another idea is to use tropical fruits from your décor as party favors for your guests. This is a great way to ensure the fruit doesn’t go to waste, and it will be a delicious take-home treat for your guests.
If you want to take it to the next level, set up a tiki bar, have some live music and set up a dance floor!

A FESTIVE TOUCH
I made a pineapple and rosemary-infused water and served it in a beverage jar on a woven stand for a non-alcoholic drink choice. This was placed on the other end of the table. The woven stand adds to the tropical feel of this table, and the pineapple slices in the water are another element of the tropics. Additionally, I served iced-down bottles of Topo Chico, another great non-alcoholic drink option, in the giant shell. These are delicious served with a slice of lemon, lime, orange or even grapefruit. Additionally, they make a great drink mixer for cocktails, making them a valuable addition to have on hand for a cocktail party.
SIGNATURE COCKTAILS
Of course, you will want a variety of drinks and cocktails at your party. I enjoy using various shapes and sizes of cocktail glasses in my table setup. The party guests can choose any type of glass that suits their drink of choice. You can certainly place lots of cheerful cocktails and refreshing sips and mixers out for a self-serve cocktail bar, or decide on a couple of signature or custom cocktails and have the ingredients for those. This will keep it simple and budget-friendly. Refreshing ideas for signature drinks would be a fruity sparkling grapefruit cocktail or a pineapple basil cocktail. Some other great tropical drinks are piña coladas, frozen mojitos, mai tais or a rum punch.
THE STAR OF THE TIKI-SHOW
As for the food, I used small seashell appetizer plates and wooden boards, randomly placed on my tables, to accommodate small bites and finger foods throughout. This creates a visually interesting, unstructured buffet table. Additionally, I created a large, tropical-themed grazing/ charcuterie board as the centerpiece of my cocktail table. I have the food and drink recipes on my website including coconut shrimp, pineapple chicken salad in phyllo cups and mini tropical trifles.
I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing some of my creative ideas for a tropical theme cocktail party and found some inspiration!
Blessings and happy end of summer!
Michele

SUNNY DAYS ...& PROTECTION FROM THOSE RAYS!
BY DR. ANDREW WORD OF WORD DERMATOLOGY
We get a lot of Texas sun exposure, which increases the risk of developing melanoma. Especially for people with light skin color and a family history of melanoma, frequent sunburns can especially increase this risk. They should be treated appropriately as soon as they are detected. Early detection is the hallmark of preventing further growth and spread of melanoma. They can arise from existing moles, but do not necessarily have to. They can also develop from previously normal skin. The most common locations for the development of melanoma are on the back of men and the legs of women. However, they can arise anywhere on the skin, even rarely occurring on the eyes, in the mouth, and under the nails. People should self-examine regularly for new or changing moles.
An easy way to remember signs worrisome for melanoma development is “ABCDE” of new or changing moles.
"A" STANDS FOR ASSYMMETRY
If a new or changing mole starts to become asymmetric, this is a concerning sign.
“B” STANDS FOR BORDER
If a new or changing mole develops a border that is especially irregular or jagged, this is a concerning sign.
“C” STANDS FOR COLOR
If a new or changing mole starts to develop different shades of tan, brown, blue, red, purple, or white, this is a concerning sign.
“D” STANDS FOR DIAMETER
If a new or changing mole grows larger than 6 millimeters, or about the size of a pencil eraser, this is a concerning sign.
“E” STANDS FOR EVOLVING
This criterion encompasses all of the others. If a particular new or changing mole catches your eye because it starts to grow rapidly or change dramatically from its previous appearance, this is a concerning sign.
These warning signs should be used to help you determine when to contact your dermatologist for a thorough, full-body skin exam and evaluation of concerning moles. To protect yourself, remember to apply sunscreen to all exposed areas of your skin. Use sunscreens with SPF 30 or higher that protect against both UVA and UVB (contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide). Reapply sunscreen every 1 to 2 hours while outside and after swimming and sweating. Wear sun-protective clothing: a wide-brimmed hat, pants, long sleeves, and don't forget about sunglasses.
So, always remember “ABCDE” for new or changing moles... and check with your dermatologist if any spots raise a red flag. We’ll be happy to help you out!

THE HAMPTONS OF THE South
STORY BY CINDY BURCH
If it's summer, you can bet there are plenty of Southerners cruising along the scenic two-lane Florida highway known as 30A. Between Destin and Panama City Beach, the 24-mile stretch of Emerald Coast is packed with golf carts, bicycles, and expensive SUVs enjoying the best of beach living. Once just a sleepy stretch of beaches, it is now being called the "Hamptons of the South" with the town of Seaside as its central hub.
The master-planned community of Seaside is widely recognized as a model for New Urbanism. It has inspired other communities along 30A, including Alys Beach, WaterColor, and Rosemary Beach, all of which feature thriving arts scenes, galleries, music festivals, and local artisans that contribute to their unique identities. Like the Hamptons, you will find the wealthy and the famous, but instead of Hollywood elite, you are more apt to run into Nashville country music legends enjoying time with their families. There are no big chain hotels, massive condo units, or high-rises. It has a welcoming Key West and Nantucket feel, with a laid-back elegance. The real draw, however, is the sugar-white beaches, made of ground-down quartz crystals that reflect sunlight, keeping the beaches cool even on the hottest days.
Each town has its own architectural style and vibe. Seaside is postcard-perfect, featuring pastel-colored cottages, white picket fences, a charming little chapel, and pedestrian-friendly streets. The town circle of Seaside has an excellent gourmet grocery, delicious restaurants and an amphitheater that hosts summer movies and concerts and is lined with the world's first
Airstream Row of permanent food trucks. Alys Beach (pronounced "Alice") is comprised of all-white structures that feature a very Bermudan architecture, with courtyards reminiscent of Antigua and Guatemala. One of my favorite areas is Rosemary Beach, with a main town center that reminds me of New Orleans' French Quarter, but with a West Indies flair. Farmers' markets, wine festivals, and fine dining establishments are spread throughout the small towns, ensuring that visitors and residents alike enjoy a refined yet relaxed lifestyle. More active options include watersports on the coastal dune lakes and hiking or biking along the paved 18-mile Timpoochee Trail. Whether you rent a private cottage for the week or stay in a hotel for a few nights, you will quickly know why this stretch of paradise is so popular.
