this building prioritizes accessibility and inclusivity to all. working to create a cohesive relationship between green space and art center, the design uses ramped entries that act as art galleries to allow users to experience the art center before ever walking through its doors. the building, an extension of the revitilization effort of downtown cayce through the use of art, terminates at an outdoor art garden that extends toward the river.

the travertine & glass building showcases the arts - with areas for different artist exhibits, dance studios, classrooms, and a theater for performances. overall, this building works to create a cohesive relationship between park and building where both elements are no longer separate items but instead become one system that intentionally celebrates accessibility.

though this building is at large a 145,000 square foot workplace right in the chaos of manhattan, new york, it prioritizes the individual to make sure they have a comfortable and experiential environment. greenery on the ramp and an interior courtyard will inspire gathering but also creates an oasis for those employed who may need to take a step away from the tasks of the day. alumninum louvres placed on the east, south, and west facade are set to the curve of the sun during summer solstice, when the sun is the harshest. however, these would be able to be individually operated to those inhabiting the space, again demonstrating the efforts to curate an experiential workplace.

a large component in the design process was the encorporation of sun patterns and recognizing its effects on this building and its occupants. each louvre was manipulated with intentions to redirect the sun in a manor that allows the sun to penetrate the building comfortably, avoiding harsh shadows. occupants have the ability to remotely control each louvre based on personal preference and the work environment the user would like to create.

SEASHORE CHAPEL ANALYSIS professor virginia melnyk | clemson university spring 2020

conclusion was made that the curved roofline was a foundational component to create an experiential environment. the relationship between small red and yellow glass panels, the curved roofline, and the movement of the sun allows for those inside the chapel to watch red and yellow shadows move northeast up the interior west facade.

PEDESTRIAN POINT

professor miguel roldån | barcelona architecture center spring 2022

the site can be described as a midpoint between the historical eixample district and a more modern development that arose due to the increasing importance of the olympic port. pedestrian point, a 70% private museum archive, proposes a more contemporary approach to the eixample block that allows for a more fluid transition into the newer developments near the sea. Like eixample, It will still hold the edge of the site and contain a central courtyard opening up entirely to the adjacent parc de carles i instead of remaining closed off. pedestrian foot traffic will be increased and encourage public activity within the site by creating a network of connectivity through two bridging systems and a morphed topography into an urban plaza.

personal projects for exploration of art through different mediums fall 2019 - current

this chapter has a large emphasis on how ideas can be expressed on a different canvas than one may typically use. everybody expresses themselves daily by the way they live, the choices they make, and even the clothing they wear. people choose to wear various fabrics, colors, and patterns - of different lengths, textures, and combinations as a way to showcase their own personality without ever having to open their mouth. clothes talk - this is just a study on how they can speak to a conceptual idea rather than a singular person’s belief..

UP GRADE

professor dan harding | clemson university fall 2022

“up grade” is an educational outreach center through clemson university that focuses on creating an educational environment that benefits a diverse group of users. the project is meant to bring awareness to accessibility by celebrating a common building feature: the ramp. the white, paint - coated steel structure is used to suspend and support a multi-story ramp and create a beautiful architectural experience that everyone can enjoy. the site is near the entrance to clemson university, and the design acts as a gateway to the rest of the college and an extension of the local south carolina botanical gardens.

the program is broken into three buildings: an education center, library, and makerspace. students, faculty, & visitors can learn, research, and make in a beautiful building emphasizing the site’s natural environment through light and programmed nooks. the circulation of the building is primarily ramps, for occupants in wheelchairs, parents strolling their younger children, older adults using walkers, students on crutches, or delivery workers pushing heavy crates. whatever the case, the design works to abandon the status quo in search of an inclusive design with form and strucure that benefits a diverse group.
