HOT THIS SUMMER

PICNIC PARTY! It ’ s a l l ab out Gi ng ham.

Packed with nostalgia, Gingham has become synonymous with a range of contrasting images from Bridgette Bardot to summer dresses and Dorothy in Oz: undisputedly gingham fabric is a fashion staple which re-emerges in new and exciting ways each year. Whilst many women have become wary of the print due to it typically being reserved for the young in fashion, on this year’s four big runways have proved that Gingham is back and this time it has matured. For designers like Shrimps, House of Holland and Peter Jensen, experimenting with the fabric has led to rebellious statement clothing starting with sexy Bardot-influenced garments to oversized silhouettes for a strong casualwear look. ‘SUPRISINGLY VERSATILE’ Suprisingly versatile, the pattern has appeared on bell-bottom trouses, flamenco-inspired ruffle dresses, layered ra-ra skirts and even PVC raincoats. The pattern featured in contrasting hues: from Royal Mail red, lemon yellow, Cadbury’s purple and lush green. Down to the detail, gingham is available as inserts on the sleeves of over-sized shirts, on neckties detailed by metal buckles, and on lace-up espadrilles. ‘BELL BOTTOM TROUSERS TO FLAMENCO DRESSES’
