Ever wonder about alpacas? Why have they become so popular in recent years? Why are so many alpaca farms popping up? And why can’t people get enough of the super soft fiber they produce? Well, now’s your chance to find out! National Alpaca Farm Days are this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2728, and a lineup of incredible farms throughout the region are opening their doors to all for a weekend of education and fun! This is your opportunity to feel alpaca fleece, tour local farms, experience live demonstrations, learn about raising and breeding alpacas, shop for alpaca products and support local farms. Celebrate National Alpaca Farm Days with a relaxing drive along the Alpaca Adventure Trail, winding through the region’s scenic hills and valleys. Be sure to check out the map on page 5 for exact locations. BearKat Alpacas, open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. this weekend, is located at 4685 Route 98 in Humphrey. Ellicottville-Great Valley Trail Hosts Open House October 5

Open House scheduled for 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, at the Town Center. The event is free to attend and will offer several activities for children and adults, including a trail scavenger hunt and two bike raffles. A draft Master Plan and maps of the proposed trail will be available for viewing, and local athletic shops will be on hand to showcase their latest trail worthy gear. Trail sweatshirts, T-shirts and baseball hats will also be available for purchase, and the Ellicottville Rotary will serve snacks from their Free Event with Kids’ Activities, hot dog cart — all proceeds to benefit the trail. After nearly two years of planning and review, the Gestion Blueberry Lake subdivision

received the Town of Ellicottville Planning Board’s approval for its preliminary plat plan with seven conditions at its Monday, Sept. 22 meeting. And it got a new name from its developers: “Forty-Two Degrees North.” Forty-Two Degrees North is a 144-acre subdivision with 24 lots on 5 acres each, accessed by a private road off Poverty Hill Road. Homes will be sold primarily for vacation use and owners will be governed by a homeowners association. A community lodge on 10 acres, owned by the developers, will be constructed for residents’ use. Town Board Tables Townline Road Decision EVGV Trail Gets Sen. Schumer’s Attention
