Have a September to Remember in Ellicottville By Kellen M. Quigley It’s hard to believe that summer is practically over. It may be a new school year, but this month is full of great activities indoors and out to celebrate the changing of the seasons, but summer is not over yet! If your adventure side is calling, answer it with a visit to Holiday Valley’s Sky High, which features the Aerial Park, the Climbing Forest and the Mountain Coaster. Sky High will be open Friday through Sunday from Sept. 6 through Oct. 13, Oct. 14 for Columbus Day and then Saturday and Sundays from Oct. 19 through Oct. 27. If you’re a golfer, late summer and early fall means finding time for 18 holes any chance you get. Head to Holiday Valley’s Double Black Diamond Golf Course and experience beautiful scenery on challenging terrain. For more info, visit www.holidayvalley.com. Ellicottville Central School’s first day of school was Wednesday, Sept. 4, and the excitement of a new year awaits. Be sure to visit ellicottvillecentral.com to see all the upcoming events and see page 4 for some Ellicottville Central news. For more golfing fun, Sept. 13 is the annual Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing and the opportunity to get in nine holes before the season ends. Chamber members and non-members are all invited. Golf starts with a 4 p.m. shotgun, and all skill levels are welcome to participate. Once you’re done with the course, dinner will be served at Holiday Valley’s Main Lodge. Sign up fees

Holiday Valley’s chairlift rides signal change of seasons
By Rick Miller
Holiday Valley has started offering weekend chairlift rides — a sure sign that summer is waning. Chairlift rides to Spruce Lake started in August, according to Holiday Valley marketing director Jane Eshbaugh. The weekend rides are always popular, she said, showing off the surrounding hills and valley below. They will only get more popular as the leaves begin to turn bright crimson, yellow and orange, she added. As of now, only the first few trees are showing signs of autumn. The chairlift will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The cost is $10, with ages 6 and under riding for free. Visitors should go to the Tannenbaum Lodge to get on the chairlift.
Holiday Valley photo Fall chairlift rides are a sure sign of the ending summer season. People can take the scenic tour up to Spruce Lake every weekend this fall.
After the ride to the top of the slope, take a walk around the lake. Adventure Bound on the Fly has kayaks and stand-up paddleboards
for rent on the lake. Those rentals should last through September, weather permitting. Then you can either walk back down or take

the chairlift, Esbaugh said. On Sundays, Jonathan Clarkson will perform with his birds of prey at 3 p.m., weather permitting. His website is www. americanhawkeye. com. The Sky High Aerial Adventure Park’s ropes courses and Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster are open weekends and this Labor Day, Eshbaugh said. The coaster is a 2,900-foot zig-zag track with waves, a jump and a corkscrew spiral. And there’s still plenty of time for golf, mountain biking and weddings and receptions as summer ticks away, she added.
