Ellicottville ready to ‘Rock Autism’ with second music fest Saturday By Kellen M. Quigley After a successful first event last year, there was no doubt in the minds of Max Muscato and the rest of the Rock Autism board members to bring the organization’s music festival back for 2019. The second annual Rock Autism Music Festival, which will feature six bands on Saturday at the Village Park on Fillmore Drive in Ellicottville, is the passion project of Muscato and Rock Autism, a not-for-profit organization that began in 2017. For the second year, Muscato said they decided to go with a different tactic, having the day be a little shorter with fewer acts, but featuring a world-wide known headliner. “We were fortunate enough to land Citizen Cope, who is coincidentally one of my all-time favorite artists,” Muscato said. “When he said yes, I was ecstatic. I freaked out.” The other bands set to play include Max Muscato featuring his brother Sonny Muscato, The Strictly Hip, Handsome Jack, Edalo & The Space, who are ready to rock for one epic cause. Proceeds benefit Rock Autism music workshops for youth on the spectrum and fine arts programs at People Inc, Autism Services of Western New York, The Summit Center and The Autism Center at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Muscato said with a bigger headliner, he’s hoping to see the overall production of the festival go up by providing more tents, port-o-johns and security. “Hopefully it doesn’t rain or pour, so we don’t have to have an emergency plan B so we don’t have to stage somewhere not on grass,” he said. After the planning and coordination that Muscato and the rest of the Rock Autism board members have done over

Plans for the town of Ellicottville’s Bicentennial Celebration in 2020 are moving along and gradually taking shape. The last meeting was held Aug. 20 at the Ellicottville Memorial Library. Organizer Dawn Westfall said about a dozen people generally come to the meetings and 11 were in attendance, so they had a fairly good turnout. She said anybody can come and help with the planning. Westfall said the committee made a lot of progress at the meeting. They’ve been hammering out more details about sponsorship from local businesses which, she said, she’d never thought about before. “Several people from the core committee are representatives

of local businesses and restaurants such as The Gin Mill, Villaggio and Holiday Valley,” she said. Brian McFadden and Jessica Wallace from the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce and several members of the historical society including town historian Mary Elizabeth Dunbar and Ann Rothrock, a veteran of the Great Valley bicentennial planning committee, also attended. According to Westfall, they currently have three main events that are solid and definitely happening, which they have talked

Planning underway for Ellicottville Fall Festival, Oct. 12 and 13

As Ellicottville’s oldest and largest event, Fall Festival, scheduled for Oct. 12 and 13 this year, is a huge economic engine for the village and provides a major trickle-down effect. It benefits many not-forprofits along with our business community and our residents. Over $70,000 is generated in various donations from the festival events. The popularity provides an opportunity to showcase our area and its attractions, converting many to become repeat visitors and second homeowners. Organizers strive to provide a better-quality experience that will attract a demographic that truly wants to enjoy all the area has to offer.

of 2018 and we are confident this year’s festival will be our best to date,” said Brian
