A November to Remember in Ellicottville By Kellen M. Quigley With Halloween now past, the holiday season in Ellicottville is officially underway. Throughout November, many activities in the village from festivals to holiday shopping to gearing up for ski season are on their way for the rest of the fall and beginning of winter. It all begins on Nov. 8 and 9 when Holiday Valley hosts its annual Beer and Wine Festival. Join friends old and new for a sampling of local brews and wines. This year’s 16th annual event features over 40 craft breweries, distilleries, hard cideries and wineries with well over 120 samples to taste. A tent will be added this year for 21 more brewers and there’s entertainment on three floors of the beautiful Holiday Valley Lodge. The weekend features the crazy fun Trucks ‘n’ Brews on Friday, the Beer and Wine Festival on Saturday and the Kegs ‘n’ Eggs breakfast on Sunday morning On Nov. 13, the Ellicottville Historical Society will be holding its regular meeting to discuss preparations for the Town of Ellicottville Bicentennial celebrations in 2020. Randolph clip underdog Ellicottville, 3-2, to deny upset bid in over time By Sam Wilson

Matt Finn couldn’t have asked for much more from his Ellicottville boys soccer team. The Eagles just didn’t have quite enough to outlast the defending sectional champions on Tuesday. As a No. 7 seed, Ellicottville rallied back to tie Randolph twice. But ultimately, Randolph scored the deciding goal at a time when Ellicottville couldn’t answer, as Kaleb Steward’s doubleovertime tally sent the Cardinals back to the Section 6 Class C championship game with a 3-2 semifinal win. Marcus Evans gave the Cardinals the lead less than a minute into the game, converting a penalty kick called after just 30 seconds. The lead held for 30 minutes until Kolby Aldrich scored for Ellicottville to tie it 1-1. Likewise in the second half, Evans scored early on, flashing his speed to earn a breakaway on the left side and beating goalie Jamison Caldwell with a high shot
to the right with 30:05 remaining. Again, the Eagles found an answer from senior leading scorer Jack Snyder, whose shot bounced off the left post and in for a 2-2 tie with just 6:42 left in regulation. A senior midfielder, Snyder had missed the last few minutes of the first half and the start of the second after rolling his ankle. But then he re-entered the game, moved up to forward, and sent the game to overtime. After a scoreless first 15-minute sudden-death overtime, Randolph finally broke through with the winner with 5:19 left in the second as Steward found the net on a high shot, set up by a direct

HoliMont Ski Resort continues to give its members and guests the best possible ski experience in winter and biking experiences in warmer weather. Greg Culver, marketing and retail sales director, said one of the bigger projects they did to prepare for this year’s ski season was revamp the entire beginner hill at the main area. He said the Chipmunk lift services
on the Bunny slope had a tree island in it, so they regraded the entire slope and put in some needed drainage. “The staging area is much wider now, and it’s going to offer a more gradual landing area for beginners where they come off the lift,” he said. “With that area bigger, we can also get a groomer up there and make a nicer spot for the skiers to unload and get situated before their lessons.”
