Borrello names Hunt, 10-year Reed staffer, as chief of staff ALBANY — State Sen. George Borrello has appointed Alison M. Hunt, a staff member and current district director for U.S. Rep. Tom Reed, as the senator’s chief of staff. “Alison brings a wealth of governmental experience to the Chief of Staff role a er serving for the past 10 years on the district staff of Congressman Tom Reed, the last six as his district director,” Borrello, a Republican from Chautauqua County, said. “Her combination of management experience, policy expertise and engagement in the issues of our communities make her a natural fit for this new role.” Reed announced March 21 he will retire from public service at the end of his
term following allegations of sexual misconduct with a young woman lobbyist in Minneapolis in 2017. Reed, whose term ends a er 2022, cited alcohol problems at the time of the alleged incident. In early April, it was reported that Reed, R-Corning, is under investigation by the House Ethics Commi ee over the incident as well. Borrello said Hunt has “deep knowledge” of agricultural issues, developed not only from her professional tenure but also from her time growing up on a farm in Yates County, where she still assists her family’s business. “Her background will be invaluable to my work on these issues as the ranking
member of the Senate’s Agriculture Commi ee,” he said. Hunt held several positions on Reed’s staff, including field representative, director of constituent services and deputy district director. She was named district director in 2015, where her responsibilities have included overseeing all state operations and district staff, facilitating policy events and roundtables, spearheading local projects and interfacing with state and local leaders on federal policy and appropriations issues. Gowanda Sports Report BY BILL PEGLOWSKI The Gowanda varsity volleyball team hosted Ellico ville April 26 for two back-toback matches. Gowanda scored the fi rst four points in the fi rst game on the way to a 14-5 advantage. That lead would grow to 21-9. Then, four straight Ellico ville points were answered with three straight from Gowanda. The teams split the last two points leaving the fi nal score at 25-14. In game two, it was Ellico ville in an early 2-0 lead that grew to 6-3. Six straight Gowanda points fl ipped the advantage at 9-6. Ellico ville closed the deficit to 14-13, but that was the best they could do.
The Panthers surged back into a 20-14 lead. Even play from that point gave Gowanda a 25-18 win and put them up 2-0 in the match. Game three was the most closely contested one of the match. Gowanda started up 2-0 before Ellico ville tied the score at 3 points. The lead then changed several times with each team having single-point leads until Elico ville moved in front 10-7. A 7-point Gowanda streak put them up 14-10. Ellico ville struggled back eventually tying the game at 22. Outscoring Ellico ville 3-1, Gowanda closed the game out for a 25-23 win and a fi rst match 3-0 decision.
The second match of the doubleheader saw Ellico ville take an early 2-0 lead in the fi rst game. Gowanda kept things close and was able to tie the score at 3, 4 and 7 before taking over the lead. From a 10-9 lead, they ran up nine straight points for a commanding 19-9 advantage. Gowanda then outscored Ellico ville 15-5 for a 25-14 win. Ellico ville again started fast in game two, taking the fi rst three points. Gowanda pulled into the lead at 7-6. From there, the game was closely contested until the score stood at 16-14 in Gowanda’s favor. The Panthers would go on to take game two by a score of 25-18. In the fi nal
game of the match, Gowanda scored fi rst and quickly moved into a 13-6 lead. With the score showing 16-9, Gowanda ran up seven straight points raising their total to 23. Ellico ville managed to add three to their tally before Gowanda was able to close out a 3-0 match victory with a 25-12 win. On April 27, the team played Randolph, who stood at the top of the CCAA East division 9-3 overall and 7-2 in league play. Randolph opened the scoring taking the fi rst
