As summer has unofficially come to an end, Holiday Valley is ready to transition into fall and yes, even winter. Those looking ahead to the ski and snowboarding season — don’t delay on purchasing your season pass! The Classic Season Pass cutoff date is Sept. 15. This is still the best rate for Combo, Day and Night Season Passes. For another great value in skiing, join a ski club or better yet, start one of your own! Ski club members enjoy paying one low price for a set day on the slopes all season long. On Friday, the annual ski club advisor party happens at the Main Lodge. For those looking for the opportunity to work at Holiday Valley in one of many capacities this winter, they will be hosting two job fairs at the Inn: Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Winery of Ellicottville Offers ‘Small Plate Menu’ With Wine Tastings By Deb Everts

The Winery of Ellicottville recently launched a new “Small Plate Menu” for its patrons to enjoy. Now they can pair the menu of light fare with their favorite glass of wine while they sip, savor and relax. The idea to add the simple menu to their wine tastings was that of owners Beth and Sam Sheehy, of North Collins, who introduced the menu Aug. 25. Beth said this is their first time offering any sort of food or a menu. They just wanted to create a little bit more of a “sit-down, stay a little bit” atmosphere at the winery. “We just launched the new ‘Small Plate Menu’ last weekend, just in time for the Labor Day holiday,” she said. “We wanted to offer it to our Wine Club members that are receiving a discount with their

August Wine Club pickup. So, they can try the light menu out and give us some feedback on it. The menu is also available to the general public and will be offered Thursday through Sunday.” According to Beth, they are offering a simple menu of five items that are served on just small plates. The menu has a nut medley with three different kinds of nuts — some spicy, some sweet; an olive assortment, a cheese plate featuring three different cheeses that they will change up a bit as they go along; charcuterie with an assortment of cold meats like prosciutto and some spicy meats; salsa and chips; as well as some bottled water and

sparkling water. To encourage their patrons to stay a while and enjoy what they have to offer, the couple has added a long, high table that seats 12 which, Beth said, was brought in about six months ago. They have also started to open up their store space and add shorter displays, so the wine room is more visible. “We’re hoping people will use the large table to sit, sip their favorite glass of wine and chat with their friends,” she said. “We’re not trying to create a bar atmosphere; it’s still a winery where people can sit and have a glass, or two.” Beth said they purchase all New See Tastings, page 9
