Autumn is offi cially here, and with this new season comes an exciting line up of seasonal events in Ellicottville and the surrounding areas! From Fall Festival to Pumpkinville to Night Lights at Griffi s Sculpture Park, there are so many ways to celebrate fall with family and friends. With all of these great activities coming up, you won’t even notice that summer is over, as you’ll be just as busy in October as you were in July! It’s almost impossible to have a conversation about autumn in Ellicottville without talking about Fall Festival, which takes place next weekend on Oct. 7 and 8. Each year, the village welcomes thousands of visitors who enjoy this celebration of all things fall on Washington Street and its surrounding side streets. On Saturday and Sunday, enjoy the outdoor food court (on Jefferson Street), fi ne arts and crafts show, kids carnival rides (Washington Square) and curb market (Monroe Street). Many of Ellicottville’s restaurants will be featuring great entertainment in the evening, so be sure to stay for dinner. Nearby at Holiday Valley Ski Resort, the Sky High Aerial Park and Mountain Coaster will be open until 6 p.m. from Friday through Sunday (located near the Tannenbaum Lodge). On Saturday at 9:30 a.m., Holiday Valley kicks off its annual 5K Race, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Holiday Valley Main Lodge. Runners take to the local streets on this fun, challenging course proving Fall Festival is the place to be for celebrating this wonderful season and keeping the heart pumping. Preregister now

It was a busy summer in Ellicottville, and as we head into fall, it’s a great time to look back on all that has happened over the past few months.

Twist, a tee shirt shop selling tee shirts and soft serve ice cream. The shop is located at 8 Washington Street, in the space that formerly housed Katy’s Café, which moved down the street to the former Coffee Culture building. In August, the Gin Mill, at 20 Washington Street, introduced the Gin Mill Lager, a brew made by East Aurora’s 42 North Brewing. Town Board Addresses Sugartown Road Concerns By Caitlin Croft
The September meeting of the Town Board opened with approving the minutes from the August 2017 meeting. There were no corrections, a motion was made to approve; there was a second and council approved.
Next Privilege of the Floor was given to Mike Fleming regarding Sugartown Road and the speed of the cars traveling down it. He asked the council to consider reducing the speed limit to 35 mph from the current 45 mph.
He felt this route, which is heavily traveled by pedestrians and bikers, is extremely unsafe right now. The board agreed that it is not the safest road for pedestrians and bikers. Town Supervisor Matt McAndrew advised he had spoken with

Allegany State Park Celebrates National Public Lands Day
Join Allegany State Park on Sept. 30 as they celebrate National Public Lands Day with their 13th year of participation! National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest one-day event designed to
give people a chance to give back to the public lands they love by volunteering for a few hours on a variety of service projects that enhance both the park and the visitor experience. This year’s event takes place Saturday, Sept. 30
on the Quaker side of the park. There are numerous volunteer projects, including bear box installation, gardening, and litter pickup, with more in the works. The day will start off with check-in/registration from See Public Lands Day page 9
