Rock ‘N’ Roll Weekend

Come out and join in the fun that is the Ellicottville Rock ‘N’ Roll Weekend, Sept. 1618, presented by Northtown Auto and sponsored by the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce. Rock and roll music will be featured throughout the village, starting Friday and going well into Sunday. Kick off the weekend Friday night with three heavy hitters playing some great tunes. Party Squad will start the event off at Madigan’s, taking the stage at 6 pm. Qwister will bring their beats to Balloons at 7 p.m., and Gin Mill will host 2 Guys Drinking Beer at 9 p.m. Saturday, the good times get rolling with a free show outdoors on The Winery of Ellicottville Mainstage on Monroe Street when Breakaway makes their return to Rock ‘N’ Roll Weekend at 1 p.m., sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. The Ellicottville Brewing Company jumps into the mix with Rochester-based Mitty and the Flowers at 4 p.m. Billy the Kid and The Regulators rocks Balloons at 6 p.m. Also at 6 p.m., Mick Hayes hits the stage at Madigan’s. The LTM Trio plays their last show of the year at Silver Fox at 7 pm. Check out Live and Kickin’ at Gin Mill at 9 p.m. At 10, Ryan Melquist and Friends will perform at the Balloons patio. Sunday is chock full of music and the village will be rocking with some great cars, with nearly 300 lined up for the annual Rock ’N’ Roll Weekend Car Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The lawn in front of The Villager building

Pumpkinville Opens for the Season Saturday, Sept. 17! Many things are synonymous with fall in WNY—falling leaves, crisp air, crunchy apples, and of course, Pumpkinville. A must on anyone’s authumn to-do list, Pumpkinville is the oldest pumpkin farm in the state. It’s owned by Dan and Diane Pawlowski, and with the help of their children, Lisa and Jim, and many dedicated employees, Pumpkinville is a guaranteed fun-filled, family-friendly time for all who visit. At the Sept. 13 Ellicottville Central School Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Mark Ward reported that the overall student population has climbed to the highest number in 13 years, with 651 students enrolled in grades Pre-K through 12. The Superintendent reported to the Board that the district is prepared to submit a final Annual Professional Performance Review to the New York State Education Department on Sept. 14. The plan will remain focused on four main concepts including: data driven decision making, a core curriculum that is aligned with standards, an atmosphere where bullying is unacceptable, and embraces diversity, with direct ties into the districts strategic plan, and a focus on technology, particularly embracing the school’s

Village Board Passes Alarm Law Interviews Underway for DPW Vacancies

The Village of Ellicottville’s board passed Local Law No. 1 of 2016, which amends its previous Alarm Law, following a public hearing during its Sept. 12 monthly meeting. The law was amended to be consistent with the town of Ellicottville’s
Alarm Law, so the fire and police departments follow the same rules and procedures when it comes to home and property alarm systems. The top priority for the board currently is filling two vacancies in the department of public works.
Mayor Burrell said that 15 applications have been received and interviews are under way. “We have some excellent candidates with the required licenses,” he said. Burrell also recommended See Village Board page 10
Village Planning Board Local Businesses Plan Moves

Three new items were addressed in the Village Planning Board meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 13. Weed Ross Agency underwent a site plan review for a new commercial building located at 4 Monroe Street.
This current residence is zoned commercially and will be converted into a 1,600 sq. ft. insurance agency. There are no architectural changes to be made as to maintain continuity between the primary residential character of that end of the street. Building meets all
setbacks and redevelopment conditions. The only addressed issue is how on-site parking will be handled. Parking on-site when available for a commercial unit must always be accommodated. The Public See Village PB page 10
