“Tuscan Moon,” Ellicottville’s favorite upscale, end-of-summer dinner party, is back again. As one of the most anticipated cocktail parties of the year, the fundraiser will take place Saturday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at John Harvard’s Cabana Bar & Pool Complex at Holiday Valley. This year’s events is sold out. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ellicottville, this event features a delicious assortment of food, live music and auctions. The party starts with great hors d’oeuvres from Katy’s Café and Katy’s Fly-In, John Harvard’s Brew House and Villaggio served by student volunteers from Ellicottville Central School (ECS). Additionally, students from University of Pittsburgh at Bradford’s Hospitality Program will be helping in the kitchen and at the food stations this year.

Familiar faces to the ski and snowboard community in Ellicottville are opening a second location in East Aurora in the longtime home of an established ski shop. The husband-and-wife team of Miguel Azcarate and Kimberly Reading, owners of Mud Sweat ‘n’ Gears on Monroe Street in Ellicottville, recently purchased the former Aurora Action Sports/The Ski Rack on Main Street in East Aurora and plan to open the location at the end of this month. The purchase came following the retirement of Aurora Action Sports’ previous owner, Dale Schaefer. “We really looked at the East Aurora community and the southtowns and thought it was kind of a nobrainer,” Reading said about purchasing the store. “We just saw huge potential. I think the demographics seem to fit well with our business model. “There are lots of streets lined with independent See Mud Sweat ‘n’ Gears, page 12
