Ellicottville Championship LIVE Music Rodeo Marks 30 Years By Rich Place
When John Kent was growing up, he wanted to be in the rodeo. As a teenager, he’d break horses and he learned to ride them with hopes of one day getting in an arena. “I wanted to go to rodeos and my mommy wouldn’t let me,” said Kent with a laugh. “I was interested in the rodeo back when I was a kid.” Kent may have never become a competitor but his involvement in rodeos has spanned decades as he has owned and managed the Ellicottville Championship Rodeo on Sommerville Valley Road alongside his wife, Karen, for 30 years. Great Valley Bicentennial Vintage Aircraft Fly-In Delights Pilots, Visitors
LARAINE NEWMAN
By Rick Miller

Hot temperatures didn’t deter people from coming and looking at the vintage aircraft — 1960 models and earlier. At the other end of the airport runway, dozens of more modern and some experimental aircraft that had flown in were on display. Great Valley Historian Marilyn Siperek said about 75 aircraft, vintage and more modern, were part of the airshow. “There were already three vintage planes on the ground by the time I got here at 7 a.m.,” Siperek said. “Our volunteers have been so great.” Siperek’s late father, Neal Eddy, opened the 3,800-foot grass airstrip in 1985.
