Springville Craft Beer & Wine Fest May 13 Why not take a break this weekend and treat yourself to some tasty craft brews and wines? The Springville Chamber of Commerce Craft Beer & Wine Festival returns on Saturday, May 13, and there are lots of treats on tap. Beer lovers can choose their favorites from Ellicottville Brewing Company (EBC), Flying Bison Brewery, Gorden Biersch Brewery, Hamburg Brewing Company, McKenzie’s Hard Cider, Pearl Street Brewery and Southern Tier Brewery. If a glass of vino is more your style, take your pick from 21 Brix, Chateau Buffalo, Main Street Winery, Midgard Winery, Savage Winery, Winery of Ellicottville and Winery at Marjim Manor. 10,000 Maniacs to Perform At Griffis in July
Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 16, when 10,000 Maniacs will perform the entire “In My Tribe” album, which Rolling Stone named one of the “100 greatest albums of the 1980s,” at Griffis Sculpture Park. Celebrating their 35th year as a band, 10,000 Maniacs continue to make albums and sell out shows throughout the country. Jim Donovan & Sun King Warriors will bring their danceable rock/world beat sounds to the stage. Jim Donovan was one of the founding members of Rusted Root. Erie, PA touring performer Tyler Smilo will open the concert at 2 p.m.
SGI Budget Vote and Board Elections May 16
Tickets are $20 advance (www.eventbrite.com), $25 day of show. Children 12 and under free. Music starts at 2 p.m. The concert will feature music, activities, artists, food and beer services. Concert attendees can take in the 250 sculptures that reside throughout the trails of the park, making it the largest
outdoor sculpture park in the United States. The events will be taking place on the top of the hill at the Mill Valley site of the park. Guests must be able to endure a 10 minute walk uphill to the festival site. There will be a shuttle service that will help attendees get to the concert area. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs.

Every beginning has a start, but not all beginnings have an end. Beginnings that positively lack termination are sometimes referred to as traditions: set patterns of behavior and thought. Nuclear Fuels Services promised to put Western New York into leadership in the atomic age when it opened as the first commercial nuclear reprocessing plant in the world. The overwhelming nature of the materials and waste it produced closed the plant in late 1971. It became the West Valley Demonstration Project in 1980. By Derek M. Otto

Hike for Hunger May 20 By Alicia Dziak
If you need an excuse to get some fresh air this spring, the annual Hike for Hunger is it! Join others on Saturday, May 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at Sprague Brook Park for a milelong walk through the woods and be part of a great cause. The Hike for Hunger, organized by the Trading Post and supported by The Springville Crossing, benefits food pantry outreach. Every dollar donated helps purchase seven pounds of food through the Food Bank of WNY. Pledge sheets are available at area schools and offices, the town hall and library. The goal is to raise $3,000. Other event highlights include a hiker’s breakfast bash and prizes. Even if you are not participating, people are encouraged to
