Village Shows Strong FY2016 Financial Position

By Jennifer Weber

The Village of Springville Board of Trustees meeting held on Monday, Nov. 7 began with a moment of silence in honor of Alyssa Hearn, the student who tragically lost her life in a bus accident on Friday, Nov. 5 on East Main Street. “We’re a small village in a rural setting and we don’t think that tragedies of this magnitude and this sort happen in our little town, but last Friday this tragedy reminded us all of our frailty,” stated Springville Mayor Bill Krebs. “I think it’s fitting that we pray for the strength and faith that the Village and larger community needs to help each other through this crisis and

specifically to remember in our prayers and thoughts the family, the fellow students of Alyssa, the school personnel and the first responders.” Following the moment of silence, the board meeting began with the overview of the Village of Springville Independent Auditor report for the fiscal year ending May 2016, presented by Laura Landers from Freed Maxick CPAs. The general fund has a “small surplus, good fund balance, and still some money left over in capital reserves,” reported Landers. “The general fund is really in a strong financial position as of May 31, 2016.” The overall summary report

Gobble for Groceries Thanksgiving Day

Trading Post Provides Numerous Community Services

By Alicia Dziak

Most people have their own Thanksgiving traditions. Whether that includes a morning hunt in the woods, listening to “Alice’s Restaurant,” going around the table and sharing what you are most thankful for, or just gorging on a delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings, perhaps there’s room for one more. Springville’s 6th annual Gobble for Groceries, hosted by the Trading Post, is happening Thanksgiving morning, and it’s a great chance to give back to the community. “This is a great familyfriendly event that brings the community together,” said Christine Greene, who cochairs the event with Rick Manzone.

Gobble for Groceries began years ago because a group of local runners, who would attend Buffalo’s busy Turkey Trot, suggested doing something local that benefitted Springville. Gobble for Groceries was born, starting
