EVL Half 5K and Half Marathon, Ellicottville
By Alicia Dziak
Are you ready for some scary good fun? It’s Halloween, and whether you’re looking for tricks, treats or just plain fun, Ellicottville is just the place! This year again, the Rotary Club of Ellicottville, Foundation for Youth and The American Legion sponsor a community Halloween party at the American Legion on Maples Road in Ellicottville. On Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m., kids12 and under will have the opportunity to Trick or Treat at this indoor location. Games, crafts, hay rides (weather permitting) and scary fun for the whole family, with candy and other treats for the kids! This party is free for children and has established itself as the place to be on Halloween. This weekend is the last of the season to enjoy two popular attractions! Looking for some good, old fashioned fall fun? There’s no better place than Pumpkinville, located at 4844 Sugartown Road in Great Valley. Pumpkinville is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. but only through Halloween. This year, Universal Pictures has partnered with Pumpkinville for the 75th anniversary of the Curious George book series, as well as the upcoming Curious George movie. Visitors can explore the six-acre corn maze, which features Curious George leaping out of a jack-o-lantern. Pumpkinville is your destination for all of your favorite seasonal delights, including fresh apples, homemade donuts, gourds, and so much more. Be sure to check out Pumpkinville’s restored 1870s cider mill in

Thomas Jefferson once said, “Beer, if drunk in moderation, softens the temper, cheers the spirit and promotes health.” We agree (in moderation of course.) All across Western New York, you can find local breweries serving unique craft beers suitable for just about any palate. See Breweries page 6

Titans Roll R/F falls to MG
Chad Bartoszek has been stressing to his Franklinville/ Ellicottville football team the importance of remaining focused on its “big-picture goals.” On Friday night, the Titans, in workmanlike fashion, took their first postseason step toward seeing their desired destination. Top-seeded Franklinville/ Ellicottville, as expected, dominated severely outmatched No. 8 seed Portville, 54-13, in a Section 6 Class D quarterfinal at Ray Gray Field.

Fall Bucket List: Cheers to the Beers
By Alicia Dziak
For many, the EVL Half and 5K is about a lot more than just running. Now in its fourth year, this must-attend race is about being creative and dressing up, spending time with your running buddies and, of course, the awesome t-shirts and finisher’s medals! It’s about the costumes. Outside of Ellicottville, there aren’t a whole lot of races that encourage you to dress up. Superhero? 80s chick? Sloth from the Goonies? Yes! Costume awards will be given for Best Group (two or more people), Best Individual,

The October 2017 Town Planning Board (TPB) meeting opened with an update on the PB-2017-01 Greystone Apartments. There will be two, two-story buildings on a total of 1.56 acres. In each building, there will be six units, two on the first floor and four on the second floor. Each building will be roughly 3,700 sq. ft.
The project received conditional approval from the TPB during the August 2017 meeting. As of now, the conditions have not been met but the proprietor of this project, Phil Vogt, is working toward having all conditions satisfied. In new business, there is a proposed Major Home Occupation to be located at
6469 Route 242 East. This is a proposed part-time chiropractic office. Dr. Leo Kronert will be open three days per week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is currently a two-dwelling building; Kronert intends to keep the second floor as a rental and will live and work from the lower unit. There are a few issues that
