Winter Fun is Just Getting Started

Enjoy the last week of the month in Ellicottville! January is full of cold temps and lots of snow calling you to the slopes! Enjoy some of the new improvements at Holiday Valley, like the Magic Carpet on Slippery Streets, the new Cindy’s Warming Hut, the Mistletoe LeanTo and the two new slopes (Boomerang and Shamrock) toward the bottom of Northwind. January is National Learn a Snowsport Month. As in years past, Holiday Valley will be offering some great deals for adults (those ages 12 and up) in January. All month long, Learn to Ski or Ride packages (which include a rental, beginner lift ticket and lesson) are half off. The Bring a Friend deal will give your friend half off the Learn to Ski or Ride package and you get a voucher for half off your lift ticket on your next visit. Or, if you stay at the Inn at Holiday Valley Sunday-Thursday, you can get a free Learn to Ski or Ride package. At HoliMont, in January only, they are offering their Learn to Ski, Snowboard or Telemark special during the week for $85, which includes an hour and a half beginner lesson with lift ticket, lesson and basic equipment rental. (Bring a friend for same lesson for free.) Weekend (must be signed in as a guest at HoliMont) Learn to Ski, Snowboard or Telemark

Bowen Reaches School Record in EVL’s Comeback By Sam Wilson

Usually, as Elliot Bowen goes, so does the Ellicottville boys basketball team. Why would this milestone night be any different? A pesky North Collins team held Bowen to 3 fi rst-half points and took a 27-23 halftime lead after Bowen sat three fi rstquarter minutes working to get back on a rolled ankle. See ECS page 5

The Great Valley Town Board appears to have found a solution to the 20 percent increases town residents recently found in their tax bills. At a meeting attended by more than 40 residents Monday night, Supervisor Daniel Brown said he, Town Attorney Peter J. Sorgi and town board members had worked to develop options to correct the error, which occurred when the budget miscalculated the amount of sales tax revenue that would be available to reduce town taxes. “We screwed up bad,” Brown said. “We underestimated the sales tax revenue. It won’t happen again.” See Great Valley Board page 2
