We are proud and happy to be hosting the 2023 Western European Powerlifting Championship. We are aiming to make this a memorable stay for the teams and guests.
Hopefully you will have the time to enjoy some of the wonders located in our region while you are staying in Iceland. We have spent considerable time preparing your stay and are looking forward for the adventure to come.
The meet will be held at a sports venue in Njardvik which is home to the local powerlifting club called Massi who is the host for this meet. Massi is one of the oldest powerlifting clubs in Iceland. All through these years we have hosted numerous powerlifting meets but this will be the biggest event on our record so far. We want to make this a special one both for the competitors and spectators. We want to make this the one for all to remember with a smile on their faces for times to come.
Reykjanesbaer is the town you will be staying at. It is a small but busy town of 15.000 located near the international airport and the capital of Iceland, Reykjavík. In Reykanesbaer we have numerous hotels, restaurants, bars and recreation. The world famous Blue Lagoon is only a 20 minute drive from Reykjanesbær and it is a must see and try for all of you.
There is also an active volcano in the peninsula that has erupted three times in the last two and a half years. The name of the area is Fagradalsfjall and it has been a huge attraction point for locals and tourists. It has been named a “tourist volcano” since it is not very harmfull and you can, in certain weather condition hike up to see the melting lava and migma. Unfortuently for you, the last erruption ended on 5.august 2023. But the area is still quite active, so who knows, maybe with all your heavy deadlifts at WEC you might stir things up a bit.

Courtyard by Mariott Hotel
The offical hotel for WEC 2023 is the Courtyard by Mariott Reykjavík Keflavík Airport. It is a new built 4-star modern hotel offering quiet accomodation, located only 1.3km from KEF Internatinal Airport. The hotel rooms are made for your comfort so you will hopefully get a good night sleep before your competition this weekend. Breakfest is served from 06:30 - 10:00. There will be an offical scale at the hotel for you to use.

The Venue
The venue for the European Championships is located only few minute drive from the hotel. We will offer transport between the hotel and the venue. The Sportshall in Njardvik is Massi´s “home ground” and many powerlifting competitions have been held there since Massi was founded in 1995. At the sportshall there is also a swimming pool, hot tubs, massage room and a sauna for you to use during the competition days so you can shower, swim and relax after competing if you want. You will be able to buy some food and drinks at the sportshall during the competition. Training will be possible before and after competition on friday and saturday.

Open
If you want to train you are welcome to the venue on wednesdsay and tuesday from 07:00 - 21:00. It will possible to train at the venue from 07:00 and until 08:30 on competition days. On friday it is also possible to train after competion until 21:00.
But we also have neighbour gym close by called Nordic training. It’s open 24/7 but you have to sign up on their website to get a door code. If you scroll down you will see WEC2023 participants pass.

Unfortuneatly we don’t have much public transport in Reykjanesbær. In walking distance to the Hotel, there is a groceries store called Nettó. But if need to go elsewhere we recomennd a Taxi company called airporttaxi.
