ELLERSLIE CRICKET NEWSLETTER

On behalf of our Board I thank all our cricketers and their families for participating in the 2022/23 season at Ellerslie Cricket Club Despite poor weather impacting the season it was great that we managed to get as many games and trainings away as we did
The season has been successful for us on a number of levels The club membership has increased to 424 playing members which is a +10% increase on last year We are one of only a few clubs to increase our membership for the last 3 seasons running which is a great achievement. The club is financially sound. This year we saw a record amount of nonsubscription revenue, largely through grant funding, which gives us the confidence to invest for the future. Added to this, our CricStars program for cricketers with disabilities has grown, we have run two successful school cluster days for 18 schools across the eastern bays suburbs, and we have delivered more coaching opportunities for players and coaches alike. All this combined solidifies Ellerslie as a reputable community-based club, creating lifelong Ellerslie cricketers.
Those of you who regularly visit Michaels Ave will see our amazing new clubrooms (officially the Michaels Avenue Community Centre) are almost complete.
We expect signoff to occur imminently and look forward to utilising the facility next season If you have a function or event planned and need a venue, the clubrooms are available to you at a reasonable price Please visit www macc net nz for further information Additionally, the Sports Club is still looking for a small amount of funding for the clubrooms and have launched a ‘Buy A Brick’ campaign to assist with the final parts of the fitout Please sees www maccdonate co nz for more details
Thank you to those who have filled out our end of year survey. We are looking at implementing several initiatives directly from your feedback that align with our strategic plan and we will be able to report on them across the winter and prior to the season commencing. You’ll be able to look this up on our new website we are targeting to launch prior to 1st August which, incidentally, is when registrations will open.
Finally, a cricket season doesn’t happen without a lot of effort from a wide range of people to keep the wheels turning. So if you were a coach, manager, umpire, supporter, sponsor, funding partner or player, we thank you and congratulate you for what you achieved this season, and hope to see you again out on the field in October.

At the end of the season we were lucky enough to host two school cluster days at Michaels Ave involving a number of schools in our area. It was great to have new cricketers with us trying the sport for the first time!
With the help of Sport Auckland, we were able to host the Tāmaki School Cluster Day involving Sylvia Park School, Stonefields School, Glenbrae Primary, Tamaki Primary and Stanhope Road School.
There was a large number of kids who had never played cricket before so it was fantastic to introduce them to the sport in a way where they all managed to bowl, bat and field
This was the first time the event had been held in years so we'd like to thank the schools for joining us, Sport Auckland for their help and Glendowie College for providing students to help with game management We're already looking forward to next year!
With the help of Ellerslie School we were also able to host the Remuera Zones Summer Field Day This was our first time hosting this as we have been working hard to connect more with our local schools We welcomed 22 teams from 13 different schools for a fun day of cricket down at The Ave!
The Michaels Ave Community Centre is so close to being officially open! This project has been in the works for over 10 years and to finally see it come to fruition is an awesome experience and one the Club is grateful to be part of! We would like to thank all our sponsors and supporters, namely Tataki Auckland Unlimited for their contribution to the building and ground development,
"The new Michaels Avenue Community Centre will be a game-changer for our community, and I couldn't be more excited about it This facility will be a vibrant hub of activity, bringing people together and creating a sense of belonging for everyone who walks through the doors," Dion Price, a longstanding member of ECC claimed.
"This project has been on the cards for as long as I've been at Ellerslie Cricket Club which is now over 15 years so to see the dream finally realised is absolutely incredible The new Michaels Avenue Community Centre is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and I'm thrilled that it's finally here! We're ready to take advantage of the incredible facilities and create unforgettable experiences for everyone who walks through the doors The future is bright, and we ' re honoured to be a part of it , " he continued on to say
Another member of the Club remarked that "This is an awesome project to hit Michaels Ave. It's great to have somewhere that reflects what we ' re trying to do and somewhere we can host all members of the Community. I look forward to seeing it become a place full of humming activity!"
This is a monumental event for the Community and we are incredibly excited to finally be able to use it next season
You can be part of the legacy when you BUY A BRICK! The building will have a Funding Supporters' Wall within the Main Foyer Entrance that will be a permanent record of the wonderful support we have received from our Community

The Club would like to say a massive thank you to all the volunteers that helped make this another successful season at ECC. To everyone who coached, managed, umpired and scored in both our Junior and Senior space - thank you!
We would also like to say a special thank you to Shane Wilson and David Woolford, whose tireless efforts for our Junior Club saw a positive growth in the girls, youth and school space
We would like to thank the Umpires Association for their provision of umpires this season As well as this, we would like to thank our scorers, namely our Premier scorer Corey Without you, our games (especially at a high level) wouldn't be able to go ahead fairly
Scoring and umpiring can often be a thankless task so please accept our gratitude for the past season.
ECC's very own Jason Trowill has been succeeding on the umpire front in Poverty Bay, where he was just awarded Emerging Official of the Year at the Northern Districts Cricket Awards -congratulations Jason!
We would like to thank Andrew French for his oustanding contributions to the Junior Club over the years. Andrew has been heavily involved in our girls space and we are sad to see him go!
Our Senior Chairman Josh Allan has stepped down from his role as he and his partner prepare their move to the UK in the coming months.
The Club would like to thank Josh for his continued efforts in organising the Senior Club and ensuring the developing youth have a clear pathway into our Senior set up We wish him all the best in his new adventure and hope to see him in the black and gold soon
