FASHION OF SUMMER 2 0 1 3 All ages, trends have changed. Trends are often the same but more modern. For decades we have seen a lot of trends in hairstyles, garments, even music. But clothes are the most sensitive to change because they have a lot of changes on a single year, depending on the season. Also fashion is interesting and mysterious because when something is in fashion automatically becomes more striking.

4

This summer the colors were the most important aspect of the collections. The way that the clothes were combined depends on the colors. This is how in this summer we saw a variety of colors. Pastel colors were the trend in the last spring, aspect that this summer adapted and changed to its own style. Pastel colors make people look sweeter and more delicate, and makes a good combination with dark colors. Besides the prints play a great role and they need a lot of combination of colors to look great (whether light or dark colors).

Prints were the most fabulous trend of the summer. Flowers, fruits, geometric drawings and ethnic style robbed the attention of people. Prints not only look great, they also help to hide those areas that you don’t like in your abdomen or if you have a big breast, they help you to hide it. It’s an interesting advantage!

In all summers the garment that we’ve always worn are the shorts. Shorts help you to look great and be comfortable. But this year they weren’t worn only for the beach. Also, you could wear them for a date or maybe for a walk in your street because in the collection the shorts came more elegant and you could combine with any tops or blouses. Besides, garments weren’t only shorts. The blouses also had an excellent collection that was called dresses blouses. They were one of the best collections in this summer because all girls wanted to buy them. This kind of blouses looks cool with any pants or accessories, but I must say again that the colors are important when you combine clothes.

Formal wear? Casual wear? To get a style of clothing, according to the occasion it’s not enough to combine garments. The texture of clothes is also important to look like you want to look, that is to say, if you have a date and you need to look elegant, silk is a good fabric to look formal .But also, this fabric needs a texture to look more beautiful in that case the pleat is a good combination. But if you only come out for a walk you can wear textures like brodery because it makes you look sweet and relaxed. The most important is that these textures were the trend in this summer.

The shoes have always played an important role in clothes. To get a beautiful combination and cool style you need to focus in your garment (even the shoes). This summer high-heels were important. Styles like stilettos and wedge heel looked amazing and they help you to look more elegant and tall. But canvas shoes were important in the collection too. They look wonderful, and In conclusion we saw a lot of new tendencies they’re comfortable to walk in a park or to in this summer that were so striking that they 5 do exercise, and never go out of fashion. even continued to be use now that we are in fall.

If you have spent your money on innumerable museum exhibitions without finding an artist able to move you, then learning about Debora Arango could be a good idea. This transgressive artist was born in Medellin in the beginning of last century (November 11, 1907). She is known as an expressionist artist. This means her paintings don’t follow the reality as it actually is but change it to emphasize in feelings and ideas. She was an aquarellist and always wanted to make murals. Nevertheless se never had the opportunity. In the 40’s the population was separated in two, the ones who followed the conservative and the liberal party, each one with radical statements of moral. As a result of it, Debora was required to face an amount of critiques about a political fight she didn’t ask to have. It is easy to suppose that Arango’s biggest enemy was the conservative party, which made rude oppositions to her work several times, claiming it didn’t follow the classic model and was near to leftist ideas.

Her studies began in 30’s with Eladio Velez as her teacher. While her classes were passing she notices that creating and not only reproducing, like Eladio was teaching her, was what she really wanted to do. So, she met Pedro Nel Gomez who opened her eyes to the world she would explore later. Although, Pedro Nel was the responsible of giving her tools for being what she became into, there was a time when him, as everyone else, turned his back on her. In that moment she knew her way was alone and she will never need of anyone else. Her independence, intelligence and talent bore its fruits. 6

That time was full of unrest about political ideologies and scenes of crude violence. Debora Arango was living it in her own skin and decided to paint her position in the conflict, avoiding the social opinion. During that decade, she made four important pieces: First “La massacre del 9 de Abril”: as its name suggests, it represents the bloody chaos caused by Gaitan’s killing; second she made “La salida de Laureano” which shows how the presidential post was taken by Gustavo Rojas Pinilla by a coup-d’etat and Arango’s hope in the new government. Nevertheless with the passing of the years, she and the population discovered it wouldn’t be like they wanted. Then, she painted “Huelga de los estudiantes” that expresses her feelings about the Rojas’s dictatorship. And the most representative work of this period is “La republica” whose topic summarized the political corruption.

She wasn’t only controversial because of the political topics she alluded to, but also an extensive work about women’s condition. In the Colombian oligarchy, women matters had severe parameters which no one was allowed to get out of that’s why Debora Arango’s paintings, whose models were prostitutes, combative girls or just female nudes without traditional features like avoiding pubic hair orposing delicately, were accused of immorality. On the other hand, different to projects by other women artist, Debora Arango re-defined the concepts of beauty and ugliness. The colors, body forms and animals used to personify her characters, gave her paintings a gross appearance such as “Colegiala” whose model was a teenage with her school uniform, however, her way of looking and how she is wearing her nails (bright red) shows the viewer the hypocrisy of the “good girls” in the high society.

Finally, Debora Arango died at 98 years old, without not having had children and ever being married. She recovered her reputation after years of having been denigrated in her own country with innumerable awards and exposition she could do, in last years of her life. As result of the artistic repression she received, no one has studied her painting deeply and her name isn’t recognized by average Colombian population. In my opinion, her life is fascinating because her art expresses what no one wanted to honestly express and give us, as the new generation, a little view of our history. Like Debora Arango, our work, talent, voice or even our way of thinking must be the strongest tool to change the ugliest parts of this reality. It isn’t necessary to scream as loud as we can but just being conscious would change everything.

Although, she never said she was a feminist in every sense of the word but works like “La lucha del destino” or “Amargada” suggest a woman chained by the role she has to play and the different feelings it produces in her. It proposes her beliefs about female liberation. Furthermore, other paintings like “Adolecencia” are focused in women personal development while they handle the duality between what they want to be and what everyone wants to make of them.

Banksy is a pseudonymus of an anonymous critical graffiti artist but there is some rumours and hypotheses as to Banksy’s identity. Names often suggested are ‘’Robert Banks’’ and ‘’Robin Gunningham’’. Boring! Boring! Boring!’’ in the elephant enclosure, with these messages he became popular and he achieved a big impact with his art work. Currently people have a lot of critics about decisions and actions that the government does. Banksy disputes this kind of things in his works using symbols like children, rats, policeman, apes and soldiers, with the intention of transmit his opinion in anti-war, anti-capitalism and anti-establishment messages in a controversial mode.

Banksy continues making critics but now he works for organizations like Green Peace and he was also credited with the opening couch gag for the 2010 ‘’The Simpsons’’ episode ‘’Money Bart’’.
