Dear Maryam Taghikhani, My name is Elizabeth Chan. I am a second year graduate student studying for my Masters in Architecture at California State Polytechnic College in Pomona, set to graduate in 2021. In 2018, I received a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have three years of experience working interning in firms, including award-winning LEED-certified firm EID Architects. In my first semester as a graduate, my work was showcased in Cal Poly’s biannual interim exhibition as one of the top four projects in my class, and I was awarded a certificate for most outstanding first year graduate at the end of the school year. I am writing this letter because I was looking for a summer internship with a reputable large firm like yours. In the past, I have worked for medium and small firms, but I feel that before I fully settle down, I should try what it feels like to work at a larger firm with more than ten people. What attracts me to your large firm above all else was your use of both models and new technology. Last year, I visited your Los Angeles offices, and the first thing I saw when I walked through the doors was the model of the Shanghai Tower sitting on the landing of the stairs, lit by LEDs and lights from the inside. Given how many models I saw scattered around the office, I was also surprised by the virtual reality booth. I believe that, while a firm should keep touch with its roots, it should also strive to innovate and adopt newer technologies as they come out. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
